"Portray a Book Title"
by Ernest Hemingway
This article is about the novel. For other uses, see The Sun Also Rises (disambiguation).
The Sun Also Rises is a 1926 novel by American writer Ernest Hemingway, his first, that portrays American and British expatriates who travel along the Camino de Santiago from Paris to the Festival of San FermĂn in Pamplona and watch the running of the bulls and the bullfights. An early modernist novel, it received mixed reviews upon publication. Hemingway biographer Jeffrey Meyers writes that it is now "recognized as Hemingway's greatest work" and Hemingway scholar Linda Wagner-Martin calls it his most important novel. The novel was published in the United States in October 1926 by Scribner's. A year later, Jonathan Cape published the novel in London under the title Fiesta. It remains in print.

Ernest Hemingway was allegedly fond of cats, after being given a 6-toed cat (polydactyl) for "good fortune."
As Hemingway is one of my favorite authors, we visited his Key West residence. On our visit there, many polydactyl cats were in residence, some descendants of "Snow White", the original Hemingway cat. The Key West home of Hemingway has a cat "memorial cemetery" and an "open air cat hotel" of sorts.
This cat was seen on the paved walk at the Hemingway residence on Key West, Florida

"The Old Man and the Sea" is a novella written by the American author Ernest Hemingway in 1951 in Cayo Blanco (Cuba), and published in 1952. It was the last major work of fiction written by Hemingway that was published during his lifetime. One of his most famous works, it tells the story of Santiago, an aging Cuban fisherman who struggles with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream off the coast of Cuba.

UNEQUAL MEASURES OF LOVE
Though I love you I cannot stay
there is so much I want to do
please know it is better this way
for this is all that I can promise you
I will keep your love in my heart forever
the fire from our golden hour will keep me warm
on a cold Winter's night when the snow falls down like melting stars
I will remember you gently and recall your soft tears
I could never have made you happy
I pray that you see it this way now
I have given all I had to give you
and I would have fallen down in the innocence of your eyes
I couldn't bear to see you hurt
so it's better to have ended it this soon
better you think of me kindly than to think me a fool
please don't wait for me in the darkness
you are so pure and born of the light
your presence is precious and deserves only the best
but I know myself and know that it must be with somebody else
in my memory you are still laughing
with your smiling Irish eyes
dancing until the new dawn has broken
through the parting of the sombre night skies
the dew on the lawn sparkles and welcomes
the first day of the rest of your life
and if in the distance you can still hear the thunder
that carries it's power to you
let it lift up your heart and embrace all your sadness
let the sun dry your tears along with the dew
tilt your head toward the sky and sing a sweet song
embrace the freedom life has given to you
don't ever close your heart and mind because of me
you are worth a million of me; from here to infinity and more
I will always love you in my own special way
but put the memory of me away within a closed drawer
lock it and throw away the key
but keep your heart open; your one special love is still yet to come
forgive me my special friend; it could never be me
you deserve someone to love you equally
unequal measures of love will never do for you or for me.

The world has a very serious problem, my friend' Shiva went on. 'Poor children still die by their millions. Westerners and the global rich -- like me -- live in post-scarcity society, while a billion people struggle to get enough to eat. And we're pushing the planet towards a tipping point, where the corals die and the forests burn and life becomes much, much harder. We have the resources to solve those problems, even now, but politics and economics and nationalism all get in the way. If we could access all those minds, though

GONE FISHING â CHRIS REA
What will I do the next time when someone deserts me
will I be like I was yesterday
now so far already in the distant past
will I weep silently in the dark
for myself or for the loss of you
and then move swiftly on,
my sails adjusted; pressed aft against my mast
or will I dwell on life's misfortunes
as I used to do so long ago
perhaps you had good reason
to let me fall so suddenly and yes, you were so brutal
perhaps it was to protect me
perhaps it was to spare me; save me from it all
still it wounds and blood seeps from the cuts
and spills onto the rough-hewn wooden floor
seeps through the gaps into the darkness of the earth
It is not for me to reason why
people choose to come and go;
that is the way of life and then we die
some stop to teach me all the wisdom that they know
some stop to learn from me before they too must go
everything is transient this much is what we know
life, love, good fortune and bad luck
it is futile to try to duck or to cling on to a boomerang
just because of fear of letting go lest it won't come back
that is why I mostly leave an open door
rarely do I shut the door and throw away the key
but even then all is not always lost
as long as words we say are less not more
and if a lesson's learned or taught and we are true to core
then maybe some day you will curve your swerve right back to me
Until then our paths remain divided as you chose
to carry on without me, but like a rose
that blooms so beautifully in Spring and through the Summer
then sheds it's soft and velvet petals to enrich the earth
lays dormant and decaying throughout Winter
until it will come into bloom again at it's rebirth
stronger and more beautiful than the Fall
the ending led once more to new beginnings
and like the sweetest briar rose
and the phoenix from the ashes
I will begin once more to rise above it all.

FRAGILE â SIMONE KOPMAJER
I look as fragile as a bird
my words flow gently as a stream
my thoughts as soft as cloud-filled dreams
yet my heart still aches for truth to be heard
People underestimate me
think I will bend to do their will
I may be silent; I may stand still
yet I stand strong as any great tree
What they say and what they do
may suck the joy from everything
weaker ones will follow them
their darkness makes them shadows
The path I chose so long ago
was not an easy one
but chosen when the angels shone
and breathed new life from head to toe
I may have died but I returned
to be among the living
Friday's child is loving and giving
I was given that gift from Heaven
Each day I'm challenged to the full
each night I sleep under bright stars
I name them simply where they are
touch light they give so I don't fall
Sadness makes my illness worse
I increase my medication
I find relief in meditation
try to remember all I'm worth
Now I am looking out for my friend
we are coping bravely through it all
the gift of life; the gentle fall
of rains that lift us; we will not bend
I may look fragile; his heart was broken
but it beats more strongly than before
my spiritual journey opens many doors
and carries more weight than their words spoken
If ever you find you took a wrong turning
there are a billion stars that burst with light
and so many angels that hear our plight
that ease our hearts; increase our learning.

Sometimes those who love her say bad things of her but they are always said as though she were a woman. Some of the younger fishermen, those who used buoys as floats for their lines and had motorboats, bought when the shark livers had brought much money, spoke of her as 'el mar' which is masculine. They spoke of her as a contestant or a place or even an enemy. The Pinnebog River upstream from Saginaw Bay. The heart of Michigan is exactly as portrayed by Hemingway and is seen here. Rivers, streams, and creeks working their way through woods and forests, on their journeys to a lake, great or small. This is "pure michigan" as best captured by Mr. Hemingway.
