Visit to R & A Engineering Company near Manchester, Michigan on May 23, 2013 with my flickr contacts Grant and Rogerio Machado.

R & A is a world-class classic car restoration operation. The location is on a beautiful old dairy farm a few miles outside of town. These custom made containers are designed to hold the oil filter in a classic car's engine compartment. I didn't hear who manufactures them.

Kallani( the Grand Anicut)

It was built by the Chola king Karikala Chola around the 2nd Century AD and is considered one of the oldest water-diversion or water-regulator structures in the world, which is still in use. It still stands as a symbol of Dravidian Engineering.

GBRf 66753, 'EMD Roberts Road' rattles off under the old footbridge and heads towards Woodburn Junction 'signalbox', cream and green cabin', which actually hasn't been replaced as part of the new Panel Replacement work, undertaken to both modernise the panel and bring proper control of the Tram/Train system under its control. The loco is seen crossing over what looks like newly installed points, which take it across the down line to join the main up line into Sheffield from Lincoln; of course at the moment there aren't any services running along to Worksop and Lincoln, local DMU service being terminated at Kiveton Park during Network Rail's maintenance of Brancliffe East Junction about half-way along the line to Worksop. The electro-magnetic crane within the bowels of South Yorkshire Metals recyclers appears to be having a rest and all is quiet. In the background, a section of the 'famed' Parkhill Flats stand out in the 11am sun and as there was no indication that the engineering train was coming out of the line possession to the east; it was time for the pair of us to leave. Having just descended the stairs, a noise behind indicated something slow and heavy was coming along the track from the direction of Darnall and looking back, a DBS, EWS liveried class 66, rumbled under the bridge with a long possession train of wagons containing 'this-and-that' in terms of materials. Thinking this through, rather too late unfortunately, it was probable that the delay had been due to the earlier DMU service, an hour ago, which went along, had to reverse and change tracks at a cross-over to gain the in-bound up line, to come back towards Sheffield, which is what happened just before the engineering train arrived. The one in the picture here on the right is about to do the same thing, head off to Kiveton Park, then proceed forward, cross over and then provide the service back into Sheffield. The Engineering train must have waited for the DMU service to depart, and also possibly was held, pending the passage through of the Bardon aggregates train, which actually sits in Heeley Loop for 40 minutes. Inspection of the time-table revealed that the Bardon was passed by the engineering working at the other side of Sheffield, so it all worked out in the end and although the engineering train was an hour late here, it made up the time just south of Chesterfield. Unfortunately again, my rapid ascent up the stairs to get a shot of the 800 tonne possession train, with DBC, in EWS livery, class 66, 66xxx, in charge, was too slow to see the number of the loco, though this is the 6T64, Kiveton Park to Toton North Yard, return working, probably off back to pick up more materials for the maintenance over in the east from here. Passing the engineering train, coming under Woodburn Road bridge, is the hourly Northern Rail DMU service eastwards, this one class 142, 142092, on the 2P63, normally Scunthorpe to Lincoln Central, but this week the service will terminate at Kiveton Park and buses will be provided for the onward journey.

In its 22nd year, the Engineering Expo is the college’s premier community outreach event. On average, the college welcomes more than 1,500 K-12 students from Miami-Dade and Broward County schools (elementary, middle, and high school) to the FIU Engineering Center to engage with FIU student organizations, researchers and staff, and to discover the endless possibilities of pursuing a degree in engineering or computing.

Still obviously under construction, but it looks like a pretty interesting (and pretty imposing) building. Looks like there'll be a LOT of glass, and the view from this side (out onto the river) will be nice.

Dr. Jeffrey Siegel, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin displays equations relating to the ideal gas law in office.

Dr. Siegel recently received the Early Career Award from the International Society of Exposure Analysis to research the efficacy of particle removal in ion air purification devices.

His research interests include design of energy-efficient buildings, indoor air quality, and indoor particle dynamics. He is currently interested in resuspension of particles from building surfaces, protecting buildings.
