The Puffing Billy railway was one of four low-cost 2'6" (762mm) gauge lines constructed in Victoria in the early 1900s to open up remote areas.

Engine 7A, built at Newport Workshops in 1905 has been restored as near as practicable to "as new" condition (1905–1910) of "Canadian Pacific" red & brown with white lining, low-height bunker, small head lamps, etc.

The need for broad gauge electrified line saw the termination of Puffing Billy for some years. In 1962 it was this little engine, 7A that hauled Puffing Billy in its triumphant return and with other surviving engines of its class built between 1901 and 1914 continues to do so until this day providing much pleasure for children and not so small children..

I came back to the cathedral to photograph the powerful old sculpture that's inset into the corner of the building. I got the idea for this better angle from another photographer.

I came away with a two-for-one photo, because not only did I capture the sculpture, I got a good shot of the one of the few vintage vehicles of the trip. The other was an American-car display at the waterfront in Bergen I wasn't able to do justice to with my photos.

I think this used to a fire engine in its day. I should have asked the man in the period uniform what was going on, but that's not my style.

Getting back to the statue, I believe the human figure in the center (i.e., the building's corner) is being assaulted by a dragon on the right and, improbably, by a horse on the left.

Other than having read this sculpture is believed to have come from Halvards Cathedra (built by King Sigurd I of Norway in the first half of the 12th century), I have not yet come across any academic or popular sources that go into this remarkable piece in any depth. It wouldn't surprise me if it's been the subject of masters' theses that have never been published.

The 4-cylinder Offenhauser engine, designed by Harry Miller, refined by Fred Offenhauser and first seen on racetracks

in the early 1930s, is the most celebrated engine in American motor sports. The “Offy” scored 27 Indianapolis 500 wins from 1935 to 1976. The cylinder head and crankcase are a single unit, permitting higher pressures. The large pipes on the engine’s left side feed air into the fuel injectors.
