I got to photograph the proposal and some portraits of some new friends the other day. 58mm coming in clutch.

Before the wedding...

I attended a picnic at Freestone Park in Gilbert, Arizona, which was sponsored by the Fred Astaire dance studios in Mesa and Chandler. But being a shutterbug, I decided to go to the park about 90 minutes early in order to get in a little photography. Among the pictures I took was this one of an engaged couple who were being photographed by a friend of theirs. The friend was equipped with a Kodak point-and-shoot. The first few pictures I took were all candid, but then I introduced myself to the trio, and they told me I could take all the pictures I wanted. (This one was not candid, although the couple was posing for their friend rather than for me.)

I learned that the couple is scheduled to be married on August 10 in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple. I said I had figured they were Mormons, and we talked about how easily members of our church manage to spot our co-religionists; it's a sort of sixth sense that we all seem to have. I can't explain it, although I know viewers of this photo who happen to be Mormon will understand exactly what I mean.

Becky Coors & Adam Brenneman Engagement Photo.

These two managed to get engaged a couple of months before our huge family trip to Maui. We managed to fit in snorkeling at Molokini, sunrise at Haleakala, time on Waiʻānapanapa beach, dinner at Mama's Fish House, a sunset captain's dinner cruise with Trilogy Sailing, zip lining, great meals, time on the beach, all of the Road to Hana, and squeezed in this sunset engagement shoot. They get married this summer and I cannot wait!

I'm happy beyond belief to be engaged to be married to Allison Mallow, the love of my life!

I loved walking around Pioneer Square with this couple. We turned out some fun shots for their engagement session.

Sierra and Kyle are so good looking it kills me - when I met Sierra I told her I wanted to photograph her. This summer when Kyle mentioned they were planning their wedding in Hawaii in November I made sure to put it in his head that I wanted to shoot their wedding. He was on board - and luckily so was Sierra. Today we played in the perfect weather out in the Gorge, and in November we’ll all be on the Big Island together for the Big Day. I. Cannot. Wait. She is beautiful, he’s a fox, they’re so much fun and so adventurous and we are going to have a blast as they make it all official.

from the engagement session of my friends :)

I've been digitising our kid's photo albums so that that they can have the originals and we can all share my digital reworkings and I came across this old snap of us, pre-marriage. See if you can pick the era from the wall-paper. Or maybe the enormous hair. Or the walk socks and short shorts (I'd obviously just finished work for the day)? I think my mum took the original; this is her home.

The Mrs shares one of her Sailebrate Sessions with a little sneak peek of Dave + Ashley's special session where they sailebrate their engagement.

These two lovely people are perfect together and you can see it just being around them. Last evening, they enjoyed a special picnic together in warm Texas sunlight.

Thank you Dave + Ashley for allowing me to capture this time and sailebrate with you! Congratulations on your engagement!

Got engaged to that one special person on the 25th of September. Katie and I are so happy! We are incredibly blessed to have each other and our family and friends. Here's a macro of the beautiful ring.

My eldest niece, Chelsea, surprised me today by coming here for her lunch break. Her beau proposed to her on the weekend and she wanted me to see the her ring. (P.S. It sparkles like crazy in the sun but I couldn't catch that).

PROPOSAL STORY

During the summer months there are competitive logging shows all over the pacific northwest. Chelsea's fiance is a long time logger's sports competitor.

On Friday Brian's father retired from a career spanning 40 years of being the logger clown. Brian took over the his father's clown role at the Saturday show. It was a very big day for their family ... lots of emotion.

Part of the elder clown's routine had him climb to the top of a 100' tree. From that vantage point the clown would see an angry man come out of the stands. The angry man accuses the clown of some hanky panky with his wife the night before. There are harsh words between the two men. The clown, is now STANDING on top of the pole. Rather laughable insults are hurled back and forth but then the situation takes a dramatic turn when the jealous husband produces a gun!

Now fast forward to Brian's first time playing the clown.

Brian changed the script to have an angry woman appear from the stands. He coaches Chelsea on the new lines and how to use the gun.

Show time.

Brian and Chelsea yell at each other a little. Chelsea shoots at him but "hits" an owl (prop) he is holding. Feathers fly in all directions (remember Brian is 100' in the air) and the "bird" drops to the ground.

At this moment Brian gets down on one knee (not an easy thing to do on an 18" diameter pole top with a strong wind blowing) and asks Chelsea to marry him. The crowd goes crazy: "SAY YES! SAY YES!".

But OH NO! Brian loses his balance and falls!

Never fear. His safety harness is attached to a guy wire and he slides to the ground. He then runs over to where Chelsea is standing and gets down on his knee again. This time he has a little box in hand. The crowd is screaming now: "SAY YES".

And I guess she did.

Hard to believe this was still in the kitchen on a wall.

This exhibit is currently on show at the Getty Museum. This exhibition has a marvelous range of documentary photography, (including some very hard subject matters) I particularly appreciated the photography in Sebastião Salgado's Migrations series.

I mainly took this shot to remember whose work I had seen. But then when I saw how animated this guy was, I thought it was worth sharing.

Enjoy your Sunday my friends!

Macromondays: theme is tribute

Jo and I got engaged here on island of Montserrat. She said yes...... An engagement ring can be seen as a form of tribute in more ways than one. Cynics could argue it is tribute paid in promise of future marriage, romantics that it is a token tribute to highlight the love between two people.
