My Baby - actually my oldest daughter but still my baby to me - got married! It was very hard not to have a camera in my hands during the wedding. (This is one of the engagement shots I took last summer.) ❤️

Dig if you will the picture

Of you and I engaged in a kiss

The sweat of your body covers me

Can you my darling

Can you picture this?

Dream, if you can, a courtyard

An ocean of violets in bloom

Animals strike curious poses

They feel the heat

The heat between me and you

How can you just leave me standing?

Alone in a world that's so cold (so cold)

Maybe I'm just too demanding

Maybe I'm just like my father, too bold

Maybe you're just like my mother

She's never satisfied (she's never satisfied)

Why do we scream at each other?

This is what it sounds like

When doves cry

Touch if you will my stomach

Feel how it trembles inside

You've got the butterflies all tied up

Don't make me chase you

Even doves have pride

How could you just leave me standing?

Alone in a world so cold? (world so cold)

Maybe I'm just too demanding

Maybe I'm just like my father, too bold

Maybe you're just like my mother

She's never satisfied (she's never satisfied)

Why do we scream at each other?

This is what it sounds like

When doves cry

How can you just leave me standing?

Alone in a world that's so cold? (a world that's so cold)

Maybe I'm just too demanding (maybe, maybe I'm like my father)

Maybe I'm just like my father too bold (you know he's too bold)

Maybe you're just like my mother (maybe you're just like my mother)

She's never satisfied (she's never, never satisfied)

Why do we scream at each other? (why do we scream, why)

This is what it sounds like

When doves cry

When doves cry (doves cry, doves cry)

When doves cry (doves cry, doves cry)

Don't cry (don't cry)

The Longmen Grottoes (aka Longmen Caves) is a UNESCO–listed world heritage site which has thousands of statues of Buddha carved in caves excavated from its surrounding cliffs. Unfortunately, the site was subjected to significant vandalism and senseless destruction at several points in its history. Major artifacts were removed by Western collectors and souvenir hunters during the early 20th century and by the Japanese during the Second Sino-Japanese War. The heads of many statues were also destroyed during the Cultural Revolution.

The Chinese government has since recognized the cultural and tourist importance of the Longmen Grottoes and has been active engaged in the preservation and restoration of the site. For more information: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longmen_Grottoes

Pn 61312 (Plešivec - Zvolen Východ)

Vígľaš - Pstruša

(SK)

Jedným z pravidelných nákladných vlakov medzi Košicami a Zvolenom je relačný vlak Pn 61312, jazdiaci v pondelky, stredy a v piatky a relačný vlak Pn 61310, jazdiaci v utorky a štvrtky.

One of the regular freight trains between Košice and Zvolen is train Pn 61312, running on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and train Pn 61310, running on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These trains usually run in the morning or after lunch

hours, leaving Lučenec around lunchtime and arriving in Zvolen shortly after noon. Pn 61312 is sometimes delayed, due to the delay of turnaround Mn 83361 from Rimavská Sobota to Jesenské.

In Jesenské, there is a change between locomotives 751/752 from the Plešivec depot and locomotives 746 from the Zvolen depot, Lučenec workplace. The photo captures the delayed Pn 61312 led by a pair of 746s from the Zvolen depot and spur 756s from the same depot.

just after crossing the Pstruša station. In the background, you can see the quarry that supplied quarry stone for the construction of the R2 expressway, leading from Zvolenská Slatina to Kriváň.

Almost the entire load of the train, except for the first wagon loaded with wood, which was headed to Austria, consists of wagons loaded with anthracite for the VUM company located in Žiar nad Hronom in the area of the Slovalco aluminum smelter.

The customer, the company VUM, is a Slovak company engaged in the production and sale of carbon products based on anthracite, pitch coke, petroleum coke and others. Company was buying anthracite

at the time the photo was taken, from as far away as Russia, specifically from the Novosibirsk region. The shipments came from the Linevo station, approximately 70 kilometers south of Russia's third largest city - Novosibirsk.

These shipments took approximately 30 days to reach the destination station in Slovakia from the departure station in Russia, of course including transload from wide, Easter European gauge to European gauge

in Čierna nad Tisou. Unfortunately, after Russia's military invasion of Ukraine, these shipments stopped completely and were replaced by anthracite, probably coming from the Czech Republic.

Engaged cogs for the Sliders Sunday group. Base image created using a Canon PowerShot camera and processed using Photoshop, Quad Pencil and Fractalius.

Happy Sliders Sunday!

It was her natural smile that captured my attention.

Girl I know that you been waitin' and talkin' to your friends

Wonderin' if and wonderin' where and wonderin' when -

Well I've been waitin' too, holdin' on to this ring

For the right words to say

For the right time and place, for me to get on one knee...

This is it, this is now, this is what I been talkin' 'bout

Lookin' out, can't you see forever?

Take my hand, just take it in

This is a moment we won't forget

On top of the world here together

If there ever was a time for a perfect kiss, well this is it

This is it

My life has been an unusual high-wire balancing act in the left and right sides of my brain. My father was a civil engineer and his genes apparently found a home in the left side of my brain, and I became a civil engineer. My mother was very artsy including her love for photography and her genes found a home in the right side of my brain, and I became a photographer. Which in the end has been very cool, to always have in my brain a genetic reminder of the influences of both of my parents.

Whenever I encounter art, be it a public mural, graffiti, seeing a photographer's work at a gallery show, or a framed picture on a wall, the right side of my brain often stops me in my tracks. And I remember my Mom.

I might be walking the streets in my favorite city, Chicago, and see the amazing works of architecture, or a bridge, or the L, and the left side of my brain likewise stops me in my tracks. And I remember my Dad.

I need to keep both sides of my brain engaged -- if I don't, I find that I begin to feel unsettled. Nowadays, since my parents have both passed, I like to imagine whichever parent it is that is feeling forgotten, kind of pecking me on the head from above and saying "hey, don't forget about me". Haha!

I have lived a blessed life, not without difficulties, but surely blessed. And I intend to keep looking, seeing, thinking, photographing, and writing as long as I can.

So, I'm kind of behind in my uploading, but this kind of news needs to be announced! I'll get back to my regular uploading schedule soon. :)

In the meantime, we're engaged! Joey surprised me with a very excited proposal and a gorgeous ring tonight before we went out to dinner. It was so sweet. :) He designed the ring with the help of the jeweler down the street, and I really couldn't have designed a better ring for myself if I had tried. It's a band (which I wanted) with sapphires (I didn't want diamonds) and a star in the middle. While it's pretty and everything, the more important thing about it to me is that he designed it and knew exactly what I'd like. It really shows how thoughtful he is, and how much he knows and loves me.

We went to dinner at our favorite sushi restaurant, and coincidentally were seated at the table we sat at on our first date. That was nearly three years ago, and it was so nice to reminisce. We told the sushi chef and waitress and they were so excited and gave us hugs and extra food and ice cream. They are so awesome. :)

Happiest woman in the world right now. That's me. I get to spend the rest of my life with the coolest person I know. :D

And I'm adding this to TOTW because how many movies are about being engaged/married?! Seriously! So many. It totally works ... :) Plus, so many of my favorite Flickr people play TOTW, so yeah, I want to share my happy news with you guys and gals! :)

“This is the real secret of life—to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now. And instead of calling it work, realize it is play.” ~ Alan W. Watts

kitchen scrubby

These two portraits need to be seen together, as they were engaged in the age-old drama of life & death when I saw them.

We were out on a beautiful French hillside a few days ago; it was covered in orchids and yellow-flowering broom, and alive with insects and the calls of hoopoes, cuckoos, golden orioles, turtle doves, corn buntings, and nightingales. But among the latter was a strident, almost froglike alarm call, which my sons alerted me to (and which I'd never heard before).

It turned out to be a nightingale facing off a fairly large western whip snake (aka Green whip snake) which had climbed into a nearby tree. Both were distracted by their face-off, so I was able to get the two portraits from close up. I don't know whether the bird had a nest that it was defending, or whether it was just its territory. In any case, there was a nightingale singing in exactly the same position the next day, so I'm guessing the snake was not successful in its predatory aims, if it had any.

An exciting and fascinating wildlife encounter on my birthday, which was a nice present (if perhaps not so nice for the participants).
