Sometimes it’s just a subtle nuance, but I really like the eye contact in this posed portrait.

A rainy day in Berlin. A couple meets a woman in the tunnel. The bodies of people appear as a silhouette. Abstract street photography in black and white.
The dawn horizon was ablaze with colour but that clear window was closing fast. Heavy dark clouds were overhead and creeping to the horizon at one point it rained a little. This can’t be happening, I’d been worried by the lack of clouds in the forecast, I was not expecting this. As I waited for the sun to rise at least 30 minutes away I thought it was not going to be, that cloud was going to snuff the whole show out. As it happened the sun got to show its face for about 10 minutes before it joined the thick clouds above, and just before it was swallowed the land was a glow with intense light. I turned the camera round to catch it this brief encounter.
It took a lot longer than expected to get to my hotel close to Zilina, Slovakia. The road was narrow, full of curves and rather busy. I did enjoy, though, and I enjoyed the warm dish and the spacious room at the hotel even more. The next day, I had planned a day on the non-electrified railway lines around Horna Stubna, hoping to see some of the 754-series locomotives in action. And who knows, maybe even a "Bardotka" with a freight train.
Not knowing what to expect, I just went to the station of Klastor Pod Znievom where I was lucky enough to catch 754 020 hauling a train to Horna Stubna. A very good start of the day!

- Amazing to watch these two characters have a confrontation in the park next door. It happens frequently between these two species. More Magpies showed up to go after the rabbit but, one kick from the bunny and they took off. YEAH!!
Thanks for your visit and kind comments.

A last selection of some encounters last winter to wish you all a Merry Christmas!
I'd like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has taken the time to look, comment and add as a favourite any of my images. It really is appreciated.
I hope you're all able to enjoy Christmas and New Year despite the new Covid variant dominating the news (at least in the UK anyway!). Here's hoping 2022 will be a better year!

I cannot imagine that I will ever be blessed with a better opportunity/encounter with Bighorn Sheep as I was the morning of 20 May, 2023.
It was shortly after sunrise as I rounded a bend in Custer State Park when I noticed 6-7 Bighorn Sheep to my left getting ready to cross the road. I stopped the car immediately in the middle of the road and turned on my emergency flashers (In my world this is an emergency!) and prayed they would not scamper back in the direction they had traveled.
I was apparently the only one in the area as they “sheepishly” crossed the road in a near robotic, high alert fashion. One in particular then assumed the role of protector as the others moved into the rocks, he stood in the middle of the road, twice bowing his head to expose the large, flat portion of his horns. I believe in his world; this was the equivalent of pulling your jacket aside to show that you have a gun!
Once the guardian cleared the road, I got out of my car with great hope of just getting one good shot. Little did I know that they wound go down into a small ravine, disappear for a few moments and reappear on a beautifully, naturally landscaped rocky area…in perfect light. It was there that they seemed to instantly relax and start grazing about, always keeping one eye on me.
For about 20 minutes of so I stood alone in the road, my right hand shaking due to weakness from a shoulder replacement, my left shaking from excitement! I was amazed to find that any of my shots were in focus. So blessed by the encounter, so close that I could observe the flexibility of their ankles and hooves as they slowly started climbing the rocks.
I look at these photos now and thank God for the blessing, and for the continued hope that it will take for me to continue to roll out of bed at 4:20 in the morning!
Taken at Bangsbo Dyrehave near Frederikshavn.
We stood for a long time observing, trying to keep our distances to the animals, it was a very peaceful walk in the forest.
There are a number of these parks in Denmark, but to me this one hit the best balance so far, as the deers were shy and cautious, yet staying close enough for observation.
Travelling on the famous german Autobahn always left a strange impression on me. There's people in their cars everywhere around you, yet you hardly communicate or meet them...
So I set out to have some roadside chats and asked some fellow travellers for their picture.

Traveling in the Arctic can be a humbling experience. Yes it’s often numbingly cold, windy and inhospitable for humans. The isolation of some of these Arctic places is also striking. When you encounter the largest land predator on Earth, at eye level, and he stares right into your eyes, you realize how unimportant you really are. We thought this enormous male Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus) would be preoccupied with the member of his own species approaching from behind. Instead he fixed his gaze on us. A safe but humbling encounter.

Exploring the Canopy Park at The Jewel at Changi Airport you might meet some unexpected creatures! :))
I was sitting for a bit in a public area in Cambria. At some point I looked up and found this beetle looking back. I eased back, it eased back. No creatures harmed in this encounter.
I have absolutely no idea what sort of beetle it may have been.
Suggestions appreciated.
Our last morning here at Encounter Bay in South Australia and we took the dog for a beach walk before heading home. Was kicking myself that I didnt bring the DSLR as the cloudless sky and the flat calm sea provided a rare calmness. So I snapped a few with the iPhone - this one of the Bluff at the end of the bay came out much better than I expected.
