...driving down a local country lane to capture frost and fog saw these Roe Deer running across a field knowing they would cross this track,so jumped out of the car and quickly took this-very much-grab shot!

You just never know what you are going to see in your backyard. The squirrels use my fence as a highway but traffic stopped when this Green Heron showed up near dusk. So, it's good to have your camera near by. This encounter ended with the Green Heron taking a stab at the squirrel who flipped in the air and then came back for more. Eventually the Green Heron captured a lizard and then left.

Sounded a lot dirtier than I expected! First driven Beat I've ever encountered. Nice!

FRONT PAGE

This close encounter between a Hamerkop (Scopus umbretta) and a hippo was photographed in the wild in the Kruger National Park.

ENCOUNTER is the topic for Saturday June 24th

I had a fleeting encounter with this beautiful creature as it slowly and deliberately walked from the leaf to my finger attracted by the warmth.

Thank you for your visit, comment or fave, all are much appreciated.

Best wildlife encounter of 2017 to date !

Red Admiral sitting on a birch in the forest.

We were along the Madison River in Yellowstone NP and noticed a coyote off in the distance to the east. Other people also noticed it and got way too close, causing the coyote to move towards us. It passed us and continued downstream with the other group of people in hot pursuit. We hopped in our vehicle and headed further downstream to the next pull-off, well ahead of the coyote and his pursuers, hoping it would continue along its current path. We quickly got set up and remained still, not moving or talking. Sure enough, the coyote came right to us and was not threatened by our presence. It was so close I had a difficult time fitting it into the camera’s frame. Such an amazing experience – a true close encounter!

We encountered this friendly fellow while hiking.

with odd phenomena... [no photoshop]

They stared at each other for quite a while, then the squirrel went back to eating.

Location IHATOV

The clouds over Port Talbot steelworks, S. Wales, glowing in the dark last night. Reminded me of a scene from Close Encounters.

Managed to get one really clear photo of this cat. It was hiding in some heavy shadow.

This came in joint 3rd place in the Planet Earth Animals & Bird Group contest in April 2019.

An unlikely encounter between two roads never to meet as an Algoma Central SD40-2 couples to a Santa Fe F45. However their new owner Wisconsin Central has arranged this meeting as former ACR 186 now WC 6004 meets the 5972 soon to be the WC 6655 while setting up ore train power at Hawk Junction, Ontario June 9, 1995.
