Embroidered silk postcard of the First World War (also known as WWI Silks).
Sent by Private Henry (Harry) George Jeffery to his mother, Margaret Jeffery at Five Dock (Sydney, Australia) for her birthday in 1917. The card is inscribed on the back, 'Dear Mother from Harry wishing you many happy returns on your birthday 28.11.17 xxxxx'. Harry was killed in action on 4 October 1917 in Belgium so the card would have been received after his death.

DMC Stranded Cotton: 1 skein each of B5200 (white), 07 (brown), 316 (purple), 602 (pink),
892 (light red), 963 {light pink), 3033 (cream), 3607 (plum), 3608 (light plum), 3708 (candy
pink), 3808 (dark teal), 3818 (dark green), 3851 (green) and 3852 (yellow).

- 1.Transfer the full design onto your 38x38cm cotton fabric panel using your preferred method, being sure to position it centrally. We used a heat erasable pen and a lightbox to trace the template.
Trim I am embroidering to add to my rust colored apron dress. This is the part that will go on the back of the dress.
This little pin cushion would would look very cute in any sewing basket. Hand embroidered by me.
It measures 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches, has a little Bluebird, green leaves, brown branches and red berries. It is sewn with blue yarn around the edge and has blue french knots on each corner. . Would be a great touch to any sewing room.

Tanveer mainly embroiders dresses for weddings. He has been working like this for 30 years. He great granfather started the craft. Before the partition his family were embroiderers in India. He gets the shiny fabric and stones from China. "When I am alone, I create the designs."
I frayed the edges of the material because I wanted to this to look a little messy and imperfect. Kind of like the material was embroidered for something else and then removed from it to make this card. Possibly it's recipient will think it's just messy.

stitch, stitch, stitch. on fridays i do mosaics of other people's stuff (my favorites), maybe on wednesdays i'll do mosaics of my pics. i do so enjoy making rainbows. next up is colorwork. they're best if you click on the all sizes button.
