I bought these napkins at a flea market for $1. I embroidered each corner of them so this view only shows four of the sixteen embroideries. Some of the other corners have small objects like an acorn, a bird and a ladybug on them.
Embroidered cape and vest, c. 1900. This elaborate garment displaying beautiful dival embroidery, was a popular Turkish export from1850-1920. It was probably worn by Lillian Gambrell McCall (1880-1959) of Bennettsville, SC. She lived on Appin Plantation and married Charles Sinclair McCall in 1911. Dival embroidery is typical of Turkish work – the wrapped thread is stitched to the fabric (couched), not embroidered through it. The circular shape, upstanding collar and rolled thread buttons of this piece reflect an Albanian styling.

I loved the 'Lovely Autumn Clutch' posted by quiltish, so I tried my hand at making a clutch. I've never made a clutch before and I didn't have a pattern, so no surprise I had to rip it apart and resew it a couple of times. But I'm happy with the final result. Thanks for the inspiration quiltish!

I made this cross stitch embroider over 10 years ago. Never knew exactly what I was going to do with it … but never forgot about it. I am quite happy now with my framing option.

Father Herman was very gracious host, showing us around the Noul Neamt Monastery in Transnistria, and when he found out Niqui was a keen embroiderer he wanted to know if she could repair this 500 year old work. She did consider it, but felt it was beyond her excellent capabilities this time.
The Dnister River marks the border between Moldova and the breakaway state of Transnistria. However, Transnistria means "other side of the Dnister [river]", but since to the residents they're on 'this' side they call the region Pridnistrovie, meaning "Before the Dnister [river]". This part of Moldova want independence and separation from Moldova, to keep their Russian identity, but they don't want to part of Russia or have any links to The Kremlin. There has border control to enter the region but everything is so friendly, despite us being so close to the Ukrainian border.
