The monument erected here to his memory takes the form of an Anglian Cross, embodying the ornament and general treatment of the Northumbria of Cædmon's time, as shewn in the four great contemporary crosses of Bewcastle, Ruthwell, Rothbury, and Hexham, erected towards the end of the seventh century. The Caedmon Cross, standing twenty feet high, is hewn out of the fine grained hard sandstone of the Black Pasture Quarry in Northumberland. Upon its front are carved panels of the Christ in the act of blessing, of David playing the harp, of the Abbess Hild, and of Cædmon in the stable inspired to sing his great song. On the arms of the Cross above are the symbols of the four evangelists, and the Agnus Dei in the centre. Below is the inscription: "To the Glory of God, and in memory of His servant Cædmon. Fell asleep hard by A.D. 680."

Behold the resplendent beauty of the Blue-and-Yellow Macaw, a magnificent creature that graces the skies with its vibrant plumage and charismatic presence. With feathers of azure blue and sunlit yellow, it is a living masterpiece, painted by the hand of nature herself.
This remarkable bird hails from the lush rainforests of South America, where it soars through the canopy with effortless grace, its wings outstretched in a display of freedom and vitality. With a playful spirit and a raucous call that echoes through the jungle, the Blue-and-Yellow Macaw embodies the wild spirit of its tropical homeland.
But beyond its stunning appearance lies a creature of intelligence and social grace. Known for its keen intellect and ability to form strong bonds with its human companions, the Blue-and-Yellow Macaw captivates hearts with its curious gaze and affectionate nature.
Whether perched among the branches or taking flight against the backdrop of a tropical sunset, the Blue-and-Yellow Macaw enchants all who encounter it, reminding us of the boundless beauty and diversity of the natural world.
May we cherish and protect these magnificent birds, ensuring that future generations can continue to marvel at their splendor and grace.
Fly high, dear Blue-and-Yellow Macaw, and may your vibrant colors light up the skies for generations to come.

Peru's practice explores his imagination through different mediums, embodying both his traditional and digital art background and his decades of painting and travelling. His mural captures the geometric complexity of his text-inspired work, done mostly as freehanded freestyles with clean angles and curves that are saturated by a complimenting colour palette. He explains that his colour palette is readable and reminiscent of the ones we were given as children, when we had almost no responsibilities and life was much simpler.

Originally from Florida, XRAY’s hometown is a place that has a significant influence on his choice of colour palette, as seen in this energetic and playful mural. His work blends a unique variety of professional experience and cultural inspirations, from the skateboarding and hip-hop scene to his commercial projects for Disney and Universal Studios. The elements of his paintings reference a wide range of motivations including military insignia, nature, tattoos, tarot cards, secret society symbols, Japanese art, propaganda, video games, science, and action movies.
Excerpt from the plaque:
Since its creation in Lyon, France, in 1894, the Michelin Man, or Bibendum, the Michelin tire company mascot, has undergone several cosmetic changes to reflect the contemporary moment. Similarly, KAWS's CHUM figure, a nod to the cheery, rotend Michelin Man, has changed with the times.
In 1999, KAWS introduced CHUM to the world in two distinct poses: in an energized mid-run stance, and standing proud, hands on the hips. A "chum" is, by definition, a close friend or pal. In its early iterations, CHUM embodied good humour and optimism. In 2020, almost two decades after its debut, KAWS brought CHUM back in a decidedly un-celebratory mood. Here, it stands downcast, shoulders slumped, arms hanging dejectedly by its side. In What Party, CHUM reflects back to us the emotional discord of 2020, a year marred by a global health crisis and socio-economic upheaval.
This work embodies a combination of simplicity and extreme contrast. Primarily in black and white, a single, thin streak of light pierces the darkness, dividing the image into two halves. The shimmering water below creates a striking contrast between light and dark and the deep night sky above, creating a minimalist yet powerful visual effect that conveys both tranquility and depth. The image lacks any specific objects or figures, simply the vast expanse of water and sky, evoking a sense of openness and tranquility. The shimmering water adds a sense of dynamism without diminishing the depth and tranquility of the overall composition. The extreme simplicity and lack of clear visual references allow the viewer to freely imagine the source of the streak of light (e.g., moonlight, lamplight) and the nature of the water, lending the work a sense of mystery and endless scope for imagination.

China, Harbin, City Impressions, St. Sophia Cathedral Place.
Heilongjiang Province, the most northeast part of China, when viewed on a map has the shape of a swan. Its capital city is Harbin, which is located south of Heilongjiang.
Not only for its special position, but also as the centre of Heilongjiang's political, economic, educational & cultural life, Harbin is described as the pearl beneath the swan's neck. Lying on the east of the Songnen Plain, what is more, Harbin plays a vital role in communications between South & North Asia as well the regions of Europe & the Pacific Ocean.
Harbin was the birthplace of Jin, 1115-1234 & Qing, 1644-1911, Dynasties, the latter of which had a very considerable influence on modern Chinese history.
At the end of the 19th century, Russia built the terminus of the Middle East Railway here. Later, more than 160,000 foreigners from 33 countries migrated to Harbin, promoting the development of a capitalist economy in the city. The economy & culture of Harbin achieved unprecedented prosperity at that time & the city gradually grew into a famous international commercial port. Assimilating external culture, Harbin created its unique & exotic cityscape. The majestic St. Sofia Orthodox Church & Zhongyang Dajie each built in a European style have the effect of bringing you into an 'eastern Moscow'. Even though you are sure to be attracted by various exotic buildings, the Dragon Tower which embodies the wisdom of the Chinese people is a must on your journey.
Besides these rich cultural heritages, Harbin is favoured with beautiful natural scenery. Based on meandering Song Hua River & subject to severe low temperatures in winter, down to -30°C, when I took this Pictures the Temperature varied between -20°C & -26°C but dry air, Harbin boasts a unique ice & snow culture. So, Harbin is also called the "Ice City".
The impressive "Ice & Snow Festival" is the greatest & unusual one in the world, therefor Harbin is also called the "Ice City".
As well the large Siberian Tiger & white tigers research centre, with about 500 tigers & a few other species, does an important work to prevent this species from extinction. The Research centre can be visited, tours in small a bus are available, passing through wide natural, separated, sections, however the focus point is to save the tigers.

Windsor Castle is a royal residence at Windsor in the English county of Berkshire:-It is strongly associated with the succeeding British royal family and embodies a myriad, of years of architectural history.
Taken on 21/01/2023 at 14:49:33Hrs using a Nikon D3100 camera with a Sigma 18-300mm F3.5-6.3 DC MACRO lens
The original castle was built in the 11th century, after the Norman invasion of England by William the Conqueror.
Since the time of Henry I (1100–1135), it has been used by the reigning monarch and is the longest-occupied palace in Europe.
The Castle grounds cover 13 acres.

I have always been very conflicted on what it is I want to put on my Flickr, exactly. I don't want it to be some sort of folder full of all the pictures I like, pictures that I'm satisfied with and I feel are fine to show to the world.
The other day, I realized that I want my Flickr to only be the pictures that I'm proud of - pictures that make me remember happy times and pictures that put me right back to the scene, to the feelings, to the memories. Pictures that bring me warmth and joy and nostalgia, pictures that I will never stop loving.
So here's the first week of a year-long sharing project, I hope you all enjoy this (different) kind of 52 week project, made from the past and the present of my photography.
This picture was taken at the end of my 8th grade year and near the beginning of my first year of high school - quite a time full of excitement, fear, and confusion about where life was headed. Madi, who is pictured, was a friend of mine that I had just met on Instagram about 3 months prior, and we finally decided to go take some pictures of our own. She told me she had a good place in mind and took me to this field - a field that I will never forget.
Absolutely covered in little purple flowers, looking over the horizon, this field is home to some of my favorite photos and memories - laughing and snapping and running around till the sun disappeared.
This picture embodies everything about that day - I don't think the sun has ever been so warm, so bright, so orange, so effervescent, and this picture makes me remember the feeling of that sun, the feeling of being in this field. There's nothing like it.

Last touch-ups by the artists on their snow sculptures, part of the over 500 sculptures created by artists from all over the world.
Harbin with population almost 4.5 million, is heralded as the Ice City for its well-known unbelievably impressive ice & snow recreations during the yearly international “Ice & Snow Festival” from the end of December until beginning of March. Harbin is also well known besides his important historic & economic past & present for China, for its historical Russian heritage, this cultural influence is still notable till today.
Everywhere in the City you will find Ice Carvings of all Sizes, besides there are several Expositions in different Park. The three major Parks are the Snow Sculptures at the Park on Sun Island, they are more artistic, the Ice Carvings at the Zhao Lin Park - Harbin Ice & Snow World are gigantic & illuminated at Night, in the Centre of the City is the Disneyland Ice Festival.
Ice-lanterns can date back to ancient times. It was said that some fishermen made rough & simple ice-lanterns made of ice just for lighting. With the time passed, ice-lanterns embodied their cultural features & artistic fascination gradually of making of ice-lanterns, ice sculptures started in the 1960s.
Due to the Siberian high & Harbin in the Heilongjiang Province location above 45 degrees north latitude, the city is known for having the most bitterly cold winters among major Chinese cities. Winter Temperatures can drop to below -35° C., when I visited Harbin beginning of January the Temperature varied between -20°C & -26°C below, but with dry air.

I love Opal Creek just for this reason. I love the color green, it is the color of all my favorite places: oceans, forests, mountain slopes. But I have found few places so far that embody the color as much as this little corner of the Oregon wilderness.

“The dragonfly spiritually embodies the stripping away of negativity that holds us back, helping us to achieve our dreams and goals. Dragonflies are the keepers of dreams, the energy within that sees all of our true potential and ability. Dragonflies inspire spirituality and creativity, they help us on the path of discovery and enlightenment. They reminder us that anything is possible.” – Beauty and the Green
This girl embodies everything I love about Blythe. She is from a dream land where ethereal characters come to life to spread a little joy.
I dyed my hair last week, sort of a gray/white color, and I was super excited to do a picture that could use it. I thought, what better way than to embody Alice and really take on a fairytale. I decided to jump down the rabbit hole, which I find to be far more fulfilling than simply falling down it.
I actually used lights for this one, something I rarely do and quite honestly don't enjoy. But it is fun to experiment and see what comes of that experimentation...at the most, a new technique...and at the least, confirmation of what fulfills us.
Next week I'll be on CreativeLive teaching all about image compositing! And then a week after that I'm headed to Australia for 2 weeks for workshops in Sydney, Melbourne, and even New Zealand...absolutely can't wait to visit some of the Hobbit sets! I'm really looking forward to a nice quiet holiday season though, complete with family and friends. My sister is moving to my area, and I couldn't be more thrilled. We haven't lived in the same state for 6 years!
Happiness to all <3
The title, Beastie Boy, evokes a sense of playful rebellion, with the dragonfly embodying vitality and tenacity. The image highlights the intricate and delicate aspects of nature, emphasising the dragonfly's prominence against a contrasting background. While focusing on an insect, the photograph evokes human emotions and attributes, inspiring empathy and appreciation for all life forms. The play of light and the sense of movement capture the essence of impressionism, with sunlight glinting off the dragonfly's wings. The solitary dragonfly against a vast, dark background symbolises the individual's journey in an expansive universe, prompting contemplation on existence and our place within the broader tapestry of life.
This is my entry for Round 5 of the MocOlympics, though I'll also be entering it into the CCC. My opponent in this round is the extremely talented and highly skilled W. Navarre, who, as far as I can tell, wins a prize in pretty much every contest he enters. Our category was to embody a song in a MOC. After some back and forth I settled on Heliseb Väljadel by Urmas Sisask, which you can listen to here. It's a very beautiful piece, and one of my favorite choral pieces. It's in Estonian; the title loosely translates to "Ringing in the Fields". This scene is what I see in my mind's eye when I listen to the piece - two lovers holding hands, gazing out at the mountains with a church at half distance. I wish you the best of Luck, Navarre. :)
In this breathtaking winter vision, Ivanna embodies the pure, commanding grace of an Archangel descending into a world of snow and silence. Draped in shimmering frost-silver fabric, her gown catches the cold light like carved ice, blending regal elegance with celestial power. The delicate embroidery along her bodice and skirts evokes frozen branches and crystalline patterns—nature’s own artistry woven into couture.
Behind her, an ethereal halo of translucent wings radiates outward, glowing like a burst of starlight against the icy forest backdrop. Every detail—from her luminous makeup to the soft, mystical snowfall—creates the sense that she is a guardian spirit of winter itself, ushering in peace, stillness, and divine clarity.
This look is more than fashion—it’s a moment of magic, frozen in time. Ivanna doesn’t just wear the season… she becomes it.
Dress: [FAME] Gwen
* This enchanting winter gown is crafted for those who love storytelling through style. It would be impossible to contain all of my favorite things in one photo, but this one embodies a few. One of my favorite moments in life is a lazy weekend morning, sunlight flooding my apartment; my dog, Willie, perched in his favorite spot by the balcony window, watching all the little squirrels and birds play outside; and having the time to tend to my plants, all huddled by the window, stretching toward the warmth of the sun.

Judaism (from the Greek Ioudaïsmos, derived from the Hebrew יהודה, Yehudah, "Judah"; in Hebrew: יַהֲדוּת, Yahedut, the distinctive characteristics of the Judean eáqnov) is a set of beliefs and practices originating from the saga of the ancient Israelites, as embodied and codified in the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh), as later further explored and explained in the Talmud and other texts. Judaism presents itself as the covenental relationship between the Children of Israel (later, the Jewish nation) and God. As such, many consider it the first monotheistic religion although many aspects of Judaism correspond to Western concepts of ethics and civil law. Judaism is among the oldest religious traditions still being practised today, and many of its texts and traditions are central to other Abrahamic religions. As such, Jewish history and the principles and ethics of Judaism have influenced various other religions, including Christianity and Islam.
Some sources say that the earliest Jews were those who settled in the Malabar coast during the times of King Solomon of Israel, and after the Kingdom of Israel split into two . They are sometimes referred to as the "black Jews". The Paradesi Jews, also called "White Jews", settled later, coming to India from European and Middle Eastern nations such as Holland and Spain, and bringing with them the Ladino language. Spanish and Portuguese Jews (Sephardim) settled in Goa in the 15th century, but this settlement eventually disappeared. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Cochin had an influx of Jewish settlers from the Middle East, North Africa and Spain.
Jews came to Kerala and settled as early as 700 BC for trade. An old, but not particularly reliable, tradition says that Jews of Cochin came in mass to Cranganore (an ancient port, near Cochin ,now known as Kodungallur) after the destruction of the Temple in 70 C.E. A chieftain by the name of Joseph Rabban, according to local tradition, was granted a principality over the Jews of Cochin by the Chera Emperor of Kerala, Bhaskara Ravivarman II . His descendents had, in effect, their own principality (called Anjuvannam in Indian sources) for many centuries until a chieftainship dispute broke out between two brothers (one of them named Joseph Azar) in the 15th century. The dispute led neighboring princes to dispossess them. In 1524, the Muslims, backed by the ruler of Calicut (today called Kozhikode), attacked the Jews of Cranganore on the pretext that they were tampering with the pepper trade. Most Jews fled to Cochin and went under the protection of the Hindu Raja there. He granted them a site for their own town that later acquired the name "Jew Town" (by which it is still known).
Unfortunately for the Jews of Cochin, the Portuguese occupied Cochin in this same period and indulged in persecution of the Jews until the Dutch displaced them in 1660. The Dutch Protestants were tolerant, and the Jews prospered. In 1795 Cochin was occupied by and came under the control of the British Empire. In the 19th century, Cochin Jews lived in the towns of Cochin, Ernakulam, Aluva and North Paravur.
For an insight to Cochin Jewish life in eighteenth Century. read Volume VIII (page 336 to 354) of The Land of the Permauls, Or, Cochin, Its Past and Its Present By Dr Francis Day, a British Civil Surgeon of 1863 AD .
The Jews of Cochin did not adhere to the Talmudic prohibition, followed by other Orthodox Jews, against public singing by women, and therefore have a rich tradition of Jewish prayers and narrative songs performed by women in Judeo-Malayalam.
This shot is taken from Jew Street , Mattancheri, Cochin. I visited the Jewish Synagogue also , unfortunately photography was not allowed there.

“Guys like Peter Karp, James Taylor, and Bob Dylan embody Americana Blues, and us English guys are inspired by it.”
[MICK TAYLOR – THE ROLLING STONES]
"Karp’s a great writer and performer whose songs are driven by verbal word play and insights into the human experience. Like James Taylor and Bob Dylan, Karp embodies Americana Music."
USA Today
"Karp’s one cool cookie, alright – from his muscular slide guitar soloing to his observational and oh-so-true songwriting and, most of all, soulful expressive voice of his, dripping with innuendo. Dude’s entertaining as hell."

Got another chance to see my co-worker's band last night ...so so good ....and really should be playing to packed houses every time they take the stage... but instead, they play small venues in odd places, that are very personal. I never really cared for going to concerts, but I could listen to these guys every day! (of course, it doesn't hurt that Niles told me that Peter said that as long as I bring my camera, I get in for free! LOL! Fortunately Peter doesn't know that I suck at indoor photos and I know nothing about flash. I've got a lot to learn!) But it's been so much fun trying to get a few good shots, and being able to just plop myself down on the floor right in front of the stage. Having a camera is kind of like having a cloak of invisibility.... it pretty much lets you go wherever you want! How cool is that?! And then after the show, Niles introduces me to people and tells everyone that I shot the CD cover.... it's like being a celebrity! A really fun night.... hoping they will play locally again soon.
From last night... check it out!
The Free Life Pond is an annex pond of the Han Chinese Buddhist temples. It is usually located in front of the Shanmen or the Hall of Four Heavenly Kings. The Free Life Pond embodies Buddhist thoughts of compassion and understanding of all living beings.
The Free Life Pond can regulate the air, inhibit dust, but also has the role of fire prevention. If the Buddhist temple is on fire, the water in the pond can be used to fight the fire.
Lingyin Temple (simplified Chinese: 灵隐寺; traditional Chinese: 靈隱寺; pinyin: Língyǐn Sì) is a Buddhist temple of the Chan sect located north-west of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. The temple's name is commonly translated into English as Temple of the Soul's Retreat, which is a literal translation of the Chinese. It is one of the largest and wealthiest Buddhist temples in China, and contains numerous pagodas and Buddhist grottoes.
The monastery is the largest of several temples in the Wulin Mountains (Chinese: 武林山; Pinyin: Wǔlínshān), which also features many grottos and religious rock carvings, the most famous of which is the Feilai Feng (Traditional Chinese: 飛來峰石窟; Simplified Chinese:飞来峰石窟; literally: "the peak that flew hither").
According to tradition, the monastery was founded in 328 AD during the Eastern Jin dynasty (266–420) by an Indian monk, named Huili in Chinese. From its inception, Lingyin was a famous monastery in the Jiangnan region.
During the Cultural Revolution, the temple and grounds suffered damage at the hands of red guards, but the students of Zhejiang University tried to protect the temple. The temple managed to avoid large scale destruction partly because of the instructions of Premier Zhou Enlai.
Today the temple is thriving as a destination for both pilgrims and tourists. It is regarded as one of the wealthiest monasteries in China, and regular pilgrims have included former paramount leader Deng Xiaoping.

On Sunday I read an article in which Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London likened Scottish Nationalism (embodied most readily by Independence for Scotland, I assume) to racism.
www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/scottish-nationa...
At first, I assumed this was merely inaccurate, biased, incompetent or malevolent reporting from an outdated mainstream media channel… it wouldn’t be the first time. Having read the (rather patchy) article, it is clear that the intention to brand Scots as racists is not clear-cut.
However, Scots seeking independence are likened to those who voted for Brexit, in that they seek to divide people (maybe along lines of race, income and class). Essentially, Khan says we must all move in the right direction, which I assume is to conform to his vision of Blairite Labour Party values in a Globalist World. A vision which he believes can be achieved by voting Labour in Scotland under the leadership of Kezia Dugdale, Sadly, for Mr Khan it appears the vast majority of the Scottish electorate thinks otherwise, which is why they have voted for the SNP overwhelmingly.
Of course that leaves the subject of the EU referendum. By insinuation if you voted for the UK to exit the EU, (52% of the UK electorate), you are tarred with the ‘Racism brush’. Being concerned about the Sovereignty, democracy, prosperity, security and values of the nation state in general and your own country in particular is NOT racist. The self-proclaimed or so-called ‘Progressives’ of this world have used the ‘R word’ so many times, especially when it does not even apply, that it no longer has any meaning or shock value in closing down any debate. We should all be grateful for that.
However, in closing I would like to offer this other frightening possibility. If people start disbelieving repeated meaningless accusations of racism this may harm society in that genuine examples of foul racism are over-looked. So, please, anyone reading this text, do not rush to judgement, consider the evidence presented to you, find more evidence and then come to a reasoned stance. Don’t just assume your side of the argument is the only valid one. Thank you for reading.

"La Catrina has become the referential image of Death in Mexico, it is common to see her embodied as part of the celebrations of Day of the Dead throughout the country; she has become a motive for the creation of handcrafts made from clay or other materials, her representations may vary, as well as the hat." – J.G. Posada
November 1 and 2 is the Mexican festival of the Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos). From the anthropological perspective it differs somewhat from the modern celebration of Halloween. Whereas Halloween is seen by most people as poking a bit of fun at the dark side of life, and certainly has no direct religious connotations (despite happening on the eve of the Christian feast of All Hallows or All Saints Day) - Día de Muertos is a completely different matter.
It does have a distinct fun element - otherwise I would not have done these shots out of respect - but it is a time when Mexican families can remember their dead loved ones and participate in rituals that go back to pre-Colombian times. Having studied anthropology, I naturally have a great interest in these festivities. In this particular case a representation of La Catrina appears holding a calavera (decorated skull).

The three photographs I have uploaded today were taken last year. The first two you will not have seen, and this one "La Catrina" is a re-edit of one I did post at this time in 2019. This photograph was all composed in one 8 second take. It is not two superimposed images.
In the ethereal realm of shadows, a curious and enigmatic figure emerged upon the stairs, captivating the essence of light and shade. It embodied an enigmatic silhouette, devoid of a discernible head.
Azza El Siddique constructs muti-sensory environments that encourage reflection on spirituality , entropy and the ephemeral nature of experience. Informed by the ancient history of present-day Sudan , including Egyptian and Nubian mythology, the artist’s large-scale installations embody her curiosity about the ever-changing physical worlds unseen. Measure of One invites its own metamorphosis through an intersection of water, clay and steel. Water washes over unfired clay vessels at regular intervals, altering or entirely disintegrating their forms. The mixture of eroding clay and water joins a cyclical path of destruction and renewal, forming new shapes. These processes are girded within a spare steel structure that frames a space for visitors to pause and remember.

Description Section:
Step into a world of sophisticated style with this stunning look that embodies both elegance and contemporary chic. The outfit features a body-hugging, earthy-toned midi dress that accentuates my curves, with delicate details like a plunging neckline that add a hint of allure. Paired with gleaming silver pointy-toed heels, this ensemble is perfect for a night out or an upscale event.

Completing the outfit is a structured white handbag that adds a touch of luxury, making this outfit a statement of refined taste.
Behind the Look:
This outfit is a perfect blend of modern elegance and timeless design. The layered bangles and anklet by November add a playful touch, complementing the overall sophistication of the ensemble. The lush green backdrop enhances the entire outfit, offering a fresh and vibrant contrast.
Styling Tip:
To nail this elegant yet effortless look, keep these styling tips in mind:
Embrace Monochrome: Stick to a cohesive color palette by choosing earthy tones and metallic accents. This creates a sophisticated aesthetic that’s visually pleasing and easy to style.
Play with Proportions: A fitted dress paired with strappy heels elongates the legs and creates a balanced silhouette. The midi length is perfect for showcasing your footwear while maintaining a chic and sophisticated vibe.
Jewellery as a Statement: Choose jewellery that complements your outfit while standing out. The oversized earrings draw attention to your face, while layered bangles add movement and interest. Opt for metallic tones to keep the look cohesive.
Accessorize Wisely: The sleek silver handbag is a perfect choice, providing a chic touch while being practical. Keep other accessories minimal to let your jewellery shine.
Hair & Makeup: For a polished finish, consider loose waves or a sleek ponytail. Keep your makeup fresh and radiant, highlighting your features with a natural glow and a bold lip for a pop of colour.
This building perhaps embodies Dunedin's wealthy inheritance. During the city's most prosperous years this railway station was the country's busiest, handling up to 100 trains each day.
Though there have been many debates about whether the building is actually beautiful or not, the overall effect is undeniably grandiose and the station is New Zealand’s most photographed building.
Construction began in 1903 and the station was officially opened in 1906. Dunedin's fourth railway station, it was designed in the fashionable, desirable and highly expensive Edwardian Baroque style. Unusually though, architect George Troup uses an experimental collaboration of Classical and Neo-Gothic imagery, which creates a grand and classically regimented structure, with an assorted and asymmetric countenance.

The SOULEIADO brand was created by Charles Deméry in 1939. It is his wife, Helene, who launched in 1947 under the influence of Madame Vachon from Saint-Tropez, a real fashion icon in the south of France, a collection of dresses. Success is quickly here and SOULEIADO becomes a well-known high-end fashion brand.
In 1952, the company employs more than 300 employees and 80% of its sales are made overseas. The 1960’s are a quiet decade and the brand knows a revival at the end of the 1970’s following the arrival of Chantal Thomass as head of design. She embodies the SOULEIADO style from the end of the 1970’s. The brand is recognised for its creativity and is welcomed among the close knit circle of luxury brands. In 1986 the brand has more than 2000 points of sale throughout the world. It is a member of the Comité Colbert and sports proudly the colors of Provence.
However, SOULEIADO slowly sinks back to sleep in its Hotel d’Aiminy and its museum, a witness of its magnificent past…
In April 2009, Daniel and Stephane RICHARD, both born in Provence, buy SOULEIADO. They decide to give the brand a new life.
In SOULEIADO’s hotel particulier in the heart of Tarascon, a new team digs deep into the brand’s legacy, its thousand of textile, print blocks and drawing archives, a real treasure hunt spanning 360 years of collecting the heritage of the last “indienneurs”, the “indienne” prints manufacturers.
The brand is back in the fashion landscape and once again delights women.

Founded in 1642, Kagetsu is perhaps the oldest restaurant in Nagasaki. Located in the old red light district of Maruyama, Kagetsu to this day serves exquisite shippoku cuisine, combining the best of Chinese, Western and Japanese cooking, embodying the spirit of Nagasaki's position as the gateway to Japan during the approximate 200 years of national seclusion in the Edo period. During this time, only the Dutch and Chinese were allowed the right to trade with Japan, and it was all done in Nagasaki.
Being the premier restaurant in Maruyama, Kagetsu had a very distinguished list of guests, both foreign and Japanese, including Sakamoto Ryoma and other revolutionaries who helped plot the downfall of the Shogunate. In a drunken state of excitement one night, Ryoma drew his sword and hacked away at some woodwork. The scars are still visible. And unlike the sword scars at the Teradaya in Kyoto, these scars are the real deal. So in case you are wondering, yes,Kagetsu survived the atomic bombing with minimal damage. It's location is protected by steep hills, which sheltered it from the shock waves.
Maruyama still has an active geisha community and it possible to arrange for geisha entertainment at Kagetsu while enjoying the amazing cuisine.

Professor Lyra Everbane was born on a crisp February morning in 1999, in the enchanting wizarding village of Mould-on-the-Wold. The Everbane family, though not wealthy, was well-respected for their scholarly pursuits, particularly in magical folklore. Her mother, Moira, was a noted magical historian, while her father, Declan, was a wandmaker who specialized in rare woods. From an early age, Lyra was captivated by the legends her mother would recount by the hearth, tales of ancient heroes, magical beasts, and forgotten civilizations.
When she arrived at Hogwarts in 2010, Lyra was sorted into Hufflepuff, a choice that delighted her family. She embodied the house’s values of dedication, patience, and loyalty, often becoming the peacemaker among her classmates. Her warmth and kindness made her a favorite among her peers, while her determined work ethic ensured her success in her studies.
Lyra excelled particularly in History of Magic, Care of Magical Creatures, and Herbology. She was captivated by how myths connected to magical creatures and the natural world. She spent much of her time in the Hogwarts greenhouses or on the grounds, seeking inspiration from nature and befriending the resident creatures. Her fascination with magical folklore deepened under the mentorship of Professor Sprout and later Professor Firenze, who encouraged her to view mythology as more than mere stories—tools of wisdom and prophecy.
After graduating in 2017, Lyra embarked on a journey across the wizarding world. She spent time with Veela in Eastern Europe, learned from centaurs in the Forbidden Forest, and even gained the trust of the reclusive Merfolk communities in Greece. These experiences expanded her understanding of myth as a bridge between cultures and magical practices.
Her travels earned her respect in academic circles, but Lyra always remained grounded, refusing to let accolades overshadow her desire to teach. She returned to Hogwarts in 2029 to become the Professor of Mythological Studies, determined to pass on her knowledge to future generations.
As a professor, Lyra's Hufflepuff traits shone through. Her classroom became a haven for all students, a place where they felt valued and encouraged. She filled her lessons with interactive experiences, bringing myths to life with illusions, enchanted relics, and the occasional magical creature. Her ability to make every student feel seen and supported made her a beloved member of the Hogwarts staff.
While her sunny demeanor endeared her to many, Lyra carried an air of quiet mystery. Rumors swirled among students about the source of her knowledge of Thestrals, and some speculated that her compassion stemmed from personal loss. Despite this, she remained a constant source of hope and wisdom, always reminding her students that even the darkest myths often held lessons of resilience and light.
Today, Professor Everbane continues to inspire young witches and wizards, weaving together the wisdom of the past and the promise of the future in her teachings. Her loyalty to her students, her love of magical lore, and her steadfast determination ensure that her legacy will endure at Hogwarts for years to come.
Built in 1954, Étoile Molène embodies the soul of traditional Breton sailing boats. This tuna dundee, born from the Keraudren shipyards in Camaret, is designed to alternate between tuna fishing in the Bay of Biscay and trawling in the Irish Sea. For more than a decade, it criss-crossed the Atlantic, inscribing its trail in regional maritime history and testifying to the intense activity of Breton ports.
With the arrival of motorized boats and the evolution of fishing techniques, working sailboats like Étoile Molène are facing a new era. Some disappear, but others, like this dundee, find a new vocation, thus preserving a valuable maritime memory.

This bronze wolf statue recalls the famous legend of Aachen Cathedral’s Wolfstür (“Wolf’s Door”). According to tradition, when funds ran short to complete Charlemagne’s Palatine Chapel, the people of Aachen struck a pact with the devil: he would provide the money in exchange for the first soul to enter the new church. To outwit him, they sent in a wolf instead of a human. Enraged at the trick, the devil is said to have slammed the bronze door so hard that he caught his thumb in the lion-head knocker, leaving an imprint that visitors can still feel today.
The statue embodies the wolf whose soul was sacrificed to the bargain. Like the great doors themselves, it links Carolingian craftsmanship with local folklore, showing how art and legend combine to make Aachen’s cathedral a place where stories of faith, cunning, and the supernatural still linger.

Feilai Feng, or "the Peak that Flew Hither", also commonly translated as "Flying Peak" (Traditional Chinese: 飛來峰石窟; Simplified Chinese:飞来峰石窟), is located in front of the temple proper. The peak is so-named because it is made of limestone, giving it a craggy appearance very different from the surrounding mountains. Legend holds that the peak was originally from India (with some versions suggesting that it is Vulture Peak), but flew to Hangzhou overnight as a demonstration of the omnipotence of Buddhist law. A large number of grottoes can be found on the peak, such as Qinglin Grotto, Yuru Grotto and Longhong Grotto. Many rock reliefs dot the peak surface, and more are located in the various caves and grottoes throughout the peak. Within the main cave, dedicated to the bodhisattva Guanyin, there is a crack in the ceiling of the cave that stretches up to the surface, so that a person standing at a certain position can see a sliver of sunlight. This is known as the "one thread of heaven" (Traditional Chinese: 一線天; Simplified Chinese: 一线天; Pinyin: Yīxiàn Tiān).
The stone carvings on Feilai Feng are located in an area measuring 600 meters long and 200 meters wide. In total, there are 153 shrines and more than 470 pieces of carvings, among which 338 are relatively well-preserved, 96 carvings from the Yuan Dynasty as well as several from the Ming Dynasty.
Around 11 carvings date to the late Tang Dynasty and Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms Period. These carvings dot the top of the peak and the mouth of Qinglin Grotto and they all prominently feature the “Three Saints of the West”, which refers to the triad of Amitābha Buddha and the Bodhisattvas Guanyin and Mahasthamaprapta from Pure Land Buddhism.
A total of 222 carvings were produced in the Northern Song Dynasty period, which feature a diverse range of Buddhist figures including the Six Patriarchs of Chan (or Zen) Buddhism, various arhats, Bodhisattvas and Buddhas such as Vairocana. One of the more prominent carvings from this period is a shrine to Budai, a monk who is traditionally regarded as an incarnation of Maitreya, surrounded by the Eighteen Arhats. This shrine stands at 3.6 meters high and 9.9 meters long, making it the largest shrine on Feilai Feng.
Most of the nearly 100 carvings produced during the Yuan Dynasty are located on the southern bank of Lengquan Stream and on the cliff near Qinglin Grotto and Yuru Grotto. The carvings from this period resembles the art styles of the Tang and Song dynasties, while also reflecting influences from Tibetan and Mongolian art.
