China, Harbin, City Impressions,

…delivery rickshaw in the morning sun.

Harbin, not only for its special position, but also as the centre of Heilongjiang's political, economic, educational & cultural life, Harbin is described as the pearl beneath the swan's neck. Lying on the east of the Songnen Plain, what is more, Harbin plays a vital role in communications between South & North Asia as well the regions of Europe & the Pacific Ocean.

Harbin was the birthplace of Jin, 1115-1234 & Qing, 1644-1911, Dynasties, the latter of which had a very considerable influence on modern Chinese history.

At the end of the 19th century, Russia built the terminus of the Middle East Railway here. Later, more than 160,000 foreigners from 33 countries migrated to Harbin, promoting the development of a capitalist economy in the city. The economy & culture of Harbin achieved unprecedented prosperity at that time & the city gradually grew into a famous international commercial port. Assimilating external culture, Harbin created its unique & exotic cityscape. The majestic St. Sofia Orthodox Church & Zhongyang Dajie each built in a European style have the effect of bringing you into an 'eastern Moscow'. Even though you are sure to be attracted by various exotic buildings, the Dragon Tower which embodies the wisdom of the Chinese people is a must on your journey.

Besides these rich cultural heritages, Harbin is favoured with beautiful natural scenery. Based on meandering Song Hua River & subject to severe low temperatures in winter, down to -30°C, when I took this Pictures the Temperature varied between -20°C & -26°C but dry air, Harbin boasts a unique ice & snow culture. So, Harbin is also called the "Ice City".

The impressive "Ice & Snow Festival" is the greatest & unusual one in the world, therefor Harbin is also called the "Ice City".

As well the large Siberian Tiger & white tigers research centre, with about 500 tigers & a few other species, does an important work to prevent this species from extinction. The Research centre can be visited, tours in small a bus are available, passing through wide natural, separated, sections, however the focus point is to save the tigers.

“Lax’s circus serves as a microcosm of the universe, where there is free-play and a unity of people and activities, where a spiritual presence is not separate from natural, worldly existence. The circus manifests variety, difference, and yet a constant unity and community. This sequence of poems embodies the Bakhtinian notion of the carnival, which allows for community, as opposed to hierarchy. The metaphor of the circus challenges traditional societal structures and roles: Lax’s circus refigures a world where grace enables human beings to relate without dominance and without violence.”

Because eggs embody the essence of life, people from ancient times to the modern day have surrounded them with magical beliefs, endowing them with the power not only to create life but to prophesy the future.

Eggs symbolize birth and are believed to ensure fertility. They also symbolize rebirth, and thus long life and even immortality.

Eggs represent life in its various stages of development, encompassing the mystery and magic of creation. Creation myths commonly describe how the universe was hatched from an egg, often laid by some mythical water bird swimming in the primordial waters...Early mythmakers viewed both the sun and the egg as the source of all life; the round, yellow yolk even symbolized the sun.

Clearly, eggs had great symbolic potential...In Europe of pagan and Christian times, eggs symbolized life and resurrection.

No. 2 - 4: Exploring - the Abbey Church of Saint Mary the Virgin, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire .

Stained Glass of the 21st Century.

The theme for the two windows is the Benedictine motto "Laborare et Orare". This is interpreted through a number of scriptural passages that themselves explore, in different ways, ideas about the two interlocking states or work and prayer.

The south window is based upon verses from the Old Testament, in the right hand light are scenes that could embody work of all kinds. Two figures are planting a tree - "the righteous, and the wise, and their works, arte in the hand of God" (Ecclesiastes 9). A group walk through the landscape = "cause me to know the way wherein I should walk, for I lift up my soul to thee" (Psalm 143)

In the centre light a figure kneels in wonder and prayer at the revelation of God's works - "Oh Lord how manifold are thy works!" (Psalm 140). His leafy crown ("For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour" (Psalm 8) connects him to the landscape that extends up into the distance.

The left hand light is about work as expressed by the making of sacred places - "he shall build my city" (Isaiah 56). Masons are working on a block of stone at the foot of great columns.

In the south-easterly window the theme is gathered into a sequence of questions and answers from John Chapter 6.

To the right are those who "also took shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus". They have climbed up from the shore of Galilee, and they ask, "What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?" Jesus, in the left-hand light, answers "this is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent".

The central light is a rustling, whispering cornfield, the space that we may occupy in our labours - "Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest." (Matthew 9).

Created by Thomas Denny.

These windows have been funded by

Friends of Tewkesbury Abbey

to celebrate the 900th anniversary of the arrival of the Benedictine Monks from

Cranborne, Dorset in 1102 to the new monastery at Tewkesbury

The windows were dedicated by the Bishop of Gloucester at the 900th

Anniversary Festival Service on Saturday 19th October 2002.

Thomas Denny

- who was commissioned to create these two windows:-

Thomas Denny was born in London and educated at King Alfred’s School, Hampstead, which he calls ‘mildly progressive’. Fortunately, that mild progressiveness meant that art was taken seriously and that his evident artistic gifts were nurtured. He chose to go to art college in Edinburgh partly because there was an emphasis there on the drawing and painting traditions, which was unusual in the 1970s. ‘In fact,’ he says with regret, ‘it’s extraordinary what a stranglehold conceptual art still has on art education.’

There was a stained glass department at Edinburgh, but he did not do much work with it. After leaving college, he was establishing a reputation as a coming painter when the grandmother of a friend of a friend commissioned him to create a stained glass window for a church near Stirling in Scotland. Other jobs followed, including a church in Cheltenham for which he did ten windows over ten years, and today he is not only fascinated by stained glass but has a reputation which puts him among the country’s leading exponents of the medium. His work can be seen all over the country, in sites ranging from Gloucester Cathedral to tiny village churches. In Dorset it is in the churches of Hinton St Mary, Tarrant Hinton and Powerstock, as well as Bridport Hospital.

Although Thomas has less time for painting now, he still sees himself primarily as a painter. ‘The thinking that goes into making a painting is better training for doing stained glass than the technicalities of cutting and leading,’ he told me. ‘The decisions you take about ideas, treatment and so on are the same decisions as go into a painting – it’s just that the ways of bringing them about are different. It is also different because stained glass has the huge extra element of the constraints of the place where it is to be installed. You have to like those constraints, work with them and use them as an impetus, not an intrusion.’ He goes on, without bitterness, ‘Yet stained glass is not always recognised as part of the art world, although stained glass windows are some of our most ambitious public works of art. Not many artists (John Piper is an exception) have bridged the gap between painting and stained glass in the public’s mind.’

Stained glass art also differs from painting in the degree to which the glass can be prepared before the paint is applied. Acid etching, for example, can be used. ‘Flashed’ glass (clear glass with a thin layer, or ‘flash’, of colour on the surface) is modified by the partial or complete removal of the colour by acid; by applying wax to areas of the surface, Thomas can prevent the acid from eating into those areas of colour. Two pieces of acid-etched flashed glass can be leaded up together, one on top of the other – this is known as plating. It is a technique which makes possible an almost infinite palette of colour, as well as giving vibrancy and depth. Flashed glass was first used in the 14th century. Another technique is to apply silver nitrate to the glass as a paste which is then fired in the kiln. When it is scraped off, it has stained the glass in a rich variety of yellows and golds, depending on the thickness of the paste and how long it is left on the glass.

When the preparation has been done, Thomas sticks the window up against the light, holding it in position with beeswax. Now he starts to apply paint, using a special material which contains ground glass. Next, the glass is fired in a special kiln to bond the paint to it. Although the result is predictable, there is still time for refinements and adjustments as each piece of glass is likely to be fired two or three times.

A new Denny window usually starts with a brief from whoever is commissioning the work, typically a Parochial Church Council. This can be quite short: the brief for three windows for Sunderland Minster, on which Thomas is working at the moment, ran to only half a dozen sentences. He then produces a painting for approval, putting his own interpretation on the brief he has been given. In the case of the Sunderland window, for example, it had to include Benedict Biscop, patron of the city, and the Venerable Bede, but it was Thomas who added references to the city’s industries and a representation of the mouth of the River Wear.

The next stage is a cut-line drawing on which the technical requirements of each piece of glass are noted, but there is still plenty of scope for the ideas to be developed further once Thomas actually starts painting onto the glass. When the work is complete – and the Sunderland windows will take about eight months – it is carefully transported to the site and installed under Thomas’s supervision.

Asked about his inspirations, Thomas replies, ‘I get my inspiration from looking at art but not necessarily art which might be seen as close to what I do,’ Pressed, he quotes Pierre Bonnard and Samuel Palmer, but says that the greatest influence on him is the close-to landscape and the imagery it suggests. ‘In this part of Dorset the landscape is very beautiful scenically,’ he says, ‘but also every square yard is full of richness. In my windows I get very engrossed in the minutiae of surfaces and the inter-connection of forms in the landscape. I feel angry that this close-quarter richness has become blander due to changes in farming and land management.’

This aspect of Thomas Denny’s work can be seen in a small window that he recently completed for a grotto in the garden created in memory of the late Queen Mother in the Botanical Gardens, Edinburgh. It shows a landscape of a loch and a hill but they are viewed between two rocks in the foreground which are covered in lichen, moss and ferns – the sort of landscape in miniature which so inspires Thomas and for whose future he fears.

While Thomas was at art college, his brother did a course in stone conservation at Weymouth College. He and some others rented the gatehouse at Wolfeton House, near Charminster, and one of his house-mates, Benita, was to become Thomas’s wife. Thomas himself lived in the Wolfeton gatehouse for a while, then took over the lease on half of the house in Gloucestershire to which his parents had moved. Benita having been born in Lytchett Minster, they decided to move to Dorset when the lease expired and bought a tumbledown cottage in Hinton St Mary. Having restored it, they lived there for ten years before moving to their present home at Belchalwell. Again, it badly needed restoration and the Dennys also built on extension using traditional cob to match the rest of the house. They moved, says Thomas, ‘because they wanted somewhere where they could contemplate the landscape from the windows.’

While talking about influences on him, I asked Thomas if it would be possible to do what he does if he were a convinced atheist. ‘That’s a complicated and un-straightforward question,’ he replied. ‘I certainly feel that what I’m doing is worthwhile. One must approach it with sympathy and reverence, but those qualities can also be found in non-religious art; better a still life by Braque, say, than a piece by someone who is perhaps a wonderful Christian but a poor artist.’ It may be this hint of objectivity which makes Thomas Denny’s work s powerful; non-Christians admire and relate to it, while Christians find it (to quote the brief for the Sunderland Minster window) ‘an aid to prayer and contemplation’.

Miss & Mister Elegance 2025 – Fourth Challenge: SINFUL CREATURES

For the fourth and final challenge before the grand finale, the contestants of the Miss & Mister Elegance 2025 contest were faced with their most daring transformation yet: embodying one of the seven deadly sins paired with a corresponding animal. This challenge called for a blend of creativity, boldness, and storytelling, as participants were tasked to personify their chosen sin through an outfit inspired by its associated creature.

Whether it was the cunning Fox of Greed, the fiery Dragon of Anger, or the slithering Snake of Envy, each contestant had to bring their vision to life with elegance and flair, captivating the judges and leaving a lasting impression. From imaginative styling to expressive poses, this challenge pushed the contestants to channel the raw essence of their sin and the spirit of their animal in a way that was both artistic and unforgettable.

Here’s how I approached the challenge in my own interpretation...

My Descripiton:

Mister Elegance 2024, Jayden, embodies the sin of Greed, inspired by Ban from Seven Deadly Sins.

Once a rogue who sought immortality, he was driven by an insatiable hunger for everything he could never have—power, wealth, and a love lost to time. His quest for eternal life led him to steal from gods, his heart forever longing for what remained just out of reach.

With the sharp wit and cunning of a fox, Jayden represents Greed as a force that twists desires into something dark and all-consuming. Holding a cupcake in his hand, he reveals how even the simplest pleasures can be distorted by obsession.

He is the embodiment of endless hunger, chasing after the unattainable, never knowing when to stop. Like Ban, he is both a tragic hero and a relentless force, driven by the fire of his own insatiable desires.

Description

The forces of nature are relentless. Like the falling snow of the sky and the shifting sands of the beach, the pavilion embraces local wind, snow, and sun conditions. Following these directions of force, the pavilion’s wings embody movement by harnessing snow and mitigating strong winds. Beach towels have been formed into dynamic concrete panels with varying openings. These panels control the amount of light and snow allowed to enter, while also creating unique views outwards. Together, the panels and wings protect users and encourage them to engage with their surroundings. Where the lifeguard station, beach towels, and marine ropes are more frequently used in the summer, the pavilion achieves resilience by employing these objects in the winter. The pavilion acts as a shelter for the community where winter conditions are celebrated by harnessing and adapting to natural forces.

Teylers in Haarlem embodies the great ideals of the Enlightenment. The fortune of Pieter Teyler (1702-1778) was used to found a centre for contemporary art and science. It was conceived as a Mouseion or Musaeum, referring to the great institution in Alexandria, in which scholars and collections were brought together under one roof to pursue knowledge and to create art. It was a revolutionary act to install such a centre for burghers by burghers without any influence of the authorities. The monopoly on information by authorities was thus changed into a democracy of knowledge.

Lectures, demonstrations, scientific research and the creation of art all took place on its premises. Immediately after its foundation Teylers developed close ties with the scientific world in Europe, resulting in a stream of visitors, correspondence and the acquisition of objects for scientific use or for artistic inspiration. Its first acquisition was the Encyclopédie by Diderot and d'Alembert.

The epic centre of the activities was the Oval Room, finished in 1784, which was built behind the house of Pieter Teyler. In the course of time new rooms were added, responding to new needs of the public and the scientists and to the growing collections. Once installed the rooms were never changed. From c. 1920 it was not longer possible to finance the activities of the scientists and the artists and the transition to a museum was completed.

The Teylers museum has been on the TENTATIVE UNESCO World Heritage list since 2011.

This look steps into the shadows of what is yet to come, embodying the Ghost of Christmas Future in all her haunting elegance. She does not rush or warn—she simply exists, a silent prophecy wrapped in darkness and gold. The structured black gown flows like a funeral veil, restrained and regal, while the high slit reveals a gleam of burnished armor beneath, hinting that survival, strength, and consequence walk hand in hand.

Behind her, the spiked, skeletal adornment forms a cruel halo—part throne, part burden—crafted from skulls and barbs that speak of choices made and paths left unturned. The gold tones glow against the darkness, symbolizing how even in the bleakest futures, traces of value, legacy, and memory remain. Her face, touched with the pallor of death, is calm and knowing, reminding us that the future does not scream—it watches.

As the final spirit of Christmas, this evolution is not about fear, but reflection. The Ghost of Christmas Future asks us to look forward honestly, to acknowledge that every decision shapes what stands behind us and what awaits ahead. In her silence, she offers the most powerful gift of all: awareness.

A centerpiece of the Pier's original 1916 construction, the 18,000 square foot Grand Ballroom embodies the opulence of the era. This was the main shot that I wanted from the Open House this year. It struck me as just the kind of grand interior that I like. And it didn't disappoint when I walked into the room.

However, I'm underwhelmed by the photo. Unlike my other pictures of this genre, there's stuff that provide some depth to the picture...pews, seats, lighting, artwork along the walls, pillars, etc. This just a big empty space. And it's round, so you don't even get walls functioning as leading lines.

So I like the picture, mostly because I was there. But you folks have permission to not like it.

Technical: This was shot on a tripod, on a stage, about as perfectly centered as I could get it. And I used HDR to balance the light coming in from the windows.

We’ve had a few days this winter with the right conditions to create a certain kind of magic. Cold temperatures and calm air allows the creation of soap bubbles that quickly freeze into solid orbs of frost. During the freezing process, they become something magical. View large!

Last night I spent a few hours experimenting with these. Some complex lighting was done from behind, using a narrow-beam flashlight and a Fresnel lens to place the light exactly where I wanted it. The bubble was blown just above this location and gently placed on the snow. Most of the time, bubbles will burst on impact unless you use a more hardy formula in their creation. The recipe used is:

6 parts water

2 parts liquid dish soap

1 part white corn syrup

It’s the corn syrup that thickens the bubble solution to withstand impact with the snow. It doesn’t work all the time, but when a snowflake lands intact, the game is on.

Freezing usually starts quickly, and there are two different scenarios you’re likely to encounter:

Warm bubble liquid: You can prolong the time you have to get the camera in the proper location by heating up the bubble solution in the microwave. This can give you a few extra much-needed seconds to get everything aligned, and it creates stable growth. In this scenario, the bubble will start to grow frost from the point of contact with the snow, and usually somewhere near the top of the bubble. These frost fronds will continue to grow until they reach, closing in the bubble.

Cold bubble fluid: If you’re using cold bubble fluid, right near the freezing point, you’re in for a show. Particles from your breath that are pushed inside the bubble will collide with the wall of the bubble, sometimes freezing on impact and creating nucleation points for frost. These swirl and grow around the freezing sphere almost like snowflakes, eventually freezing together. That’s what you’re seeing here. The freezing process usually has already begun by the time the snowflake has landed, and very little time is available to get the camera to the proper angle and focus point.

Like my snowflake images, this was shot entirely handheld. Speed is very important for such subjects, and a tripod only gets in the way. The entire bubble is frozen solid in a matter of seconds.

It’s amazing what falls from the sky, created by the randomness and beauty of nature… but it’s astounding what the right ingredients in the right order can create with the intent of creating something beautiful here on earth.

If you’d like to see more of my work with snowflakes, check out my book Sky Crystals (304pg hardcover) here: skycrystals.ca/book/ or my “The Snowflake” print, which embodies the beauty of sky-borne crystals in a way never before seen: skycrystals.ca/poster/

This embodies my summer.

Me and the nature.

This just reminds me of a Hollister campaign or something.

This work embodies a combination of simplicity and extreme contrast. Primarily in black and white, a single, thin streak of light pierces the darkness, dividing the image into two halves. The shimmering water below creates a striking contrast between light and dark and the deep night sky above, creating a minimalist yet powerful visual effect that conveys both tranquility and depth. The image lacks any specific objects or figures, simply the vast expanse of water and sky, evoking a sense of openness and tranquility. The shimmering water adds a sense of dynamism without diminishing the depth and tranquility of the overall composition. The extreme simplicity and lack of clear visual references allow the viewer to freely imagine the source of the streak of light (e.g., moonlight, lamplight) and the nature of the water, lending the work a sense of mystery and endless scope for imagination.

China, Harbin, City Impressions, St. Sophia Cathedral Place.

Heilongjiang Province, the most northeast part of China, when viewed on a map has the shape of a swan. Its capital city is Harbin, which is located south of Heilongjiang.

Not only for its special position, but also as the centre of Heilongjiang's political, economic, educational & cultural life, Harbin is described as the pearl beneath the swan's neck.

The Research centre can be visited, tours in small a bus are available, passing through wide natural, separated, sections, however the focus point is to save the tigers.

captured on the steps in front of mercat de l'olivar in palma, this image reveals a simple, intimate moment in the bustling heart of the city. three individuals, lost in their thoughts and enjoying a quick bite, embody the quiet pauses in our everyday life that often go unnoticed. the interplay of light and shadow highlights their contemplative expressions, creating a story told in whispers of calm amid the urban rush. the strong contrasts and subtle emotions evoke a sense of shared solitude, making this scene timeless and relatable.

Trevi Fountain, Rome, Italy.

The Trevi Fountain is a fantastic work of art that is much more than a mere sculpture.

This triumphant example of Baroque art with its soft, natural lines and fantasy creatures embodies movement as the soul of the world. The fountain is a true wonder, a jewel of water and stone that is nestled between the palaces of the historic centre of the city.

This four shot panoramic embodies North Dakota. To those that prefer the hustle and bustle of the city life this may seem drab, but those that love the plains and have a rich history in North Dakota understand that scenes like this make this state great. A storage silo represents the hard work and perseverance it took to start a new life here in this country. The open sky and field testify of the peace of mind that come along with the hard work. I have always been very conflicted on what it is I want to put on my Flickr, exactly. I don't want it to be some sort of folder full of all the pictures I like, pictures that I'm satisfied with and I feel are fine to show to the world.

The other day, I realized that I want my Flickr to only be the pictures that I'm proud of - pictures that make me remember happy times and pictures that put me right back to the scene, to the feelings, to the memories. Pictures that bring me warmth and joy and nostalgia, pictures that I will never stop loving.

So here's the first week of a year-long sharing project, I hope you all enjoy this (different) kind of 52 week project, made from the past and the present of my photography.

This picture was taken at the end of my 8th grade year and near the beginning of my first year of high school - quite a time full of excitement, fear, and confusion about where life was headed. Madi, who is pictured, was a friend of mine that I had just met on Instagram about 3 months prior, and we finally decided to go take some pictures of our own. She told me she had a good place in mind and took me to this field - a field that I will never forget.

Absolutely covered in little purple flowers, looking over the horizon, this field is home to some of my favorite photos and memories - laughing and snapping and running around till the sun disappeared.

This picture embodies everything about that day - I don't think the sun has ever been so warm, so bright, so orange, so effervescent, and this picture makes me remember the feeling of that sun, the feeling of being in this field. There's nothing like it.

“The dragonfly spiritually embodies the stripping away of negativity that holds us back, helping us to achieve our dreams and goals. Dragonflies are the keepers of dreams, the energy within that sees all of our true potential and ability. Dragonflies inspire spirituality and creativity, they help us on the path of discovery and enlightenment. They reminder us that anything is possible.” – Beauty and the Green

A small aircraft gracefully glides through a flawless blue sky, embodying the freedom and adventure of flight. The crisp details of the plane contrast sharply against the vibrant azure backdrop, emphasizing the beauty of simplicity and motion. This image captures the wonder of aviation and the endless possibilities found above the horizon. Perfect for aviation enthusiasts and dreamers alike.

"After years of dedicated effort and countless hours in the warmth of the bread oven, the "bakers guild" is now basking in a golden age. Their culinary creations have become renowned across the region for their exquisite flavors, embodying the deep-seated love for baking that defines each baker's essence.

Every sunrise marks the beginning of the bakers' daily rituals, as they skillfully knead the dough and meticulously craft each baked delicacy to perfection. Currently, the guild stands as the most esteemed bakery in the area, with their offerings deemed essential at every town event.

This dynamic image captures a trio of Greater White-fronted Geese taking flight from the wetlands, their powerful wings beating in harmony against the open sky. Known for their distinct call and the white patch at the front of their face, these geese embody the spirit of the wild. On the ground, their flock remains, a community at rest amidst the reeds and waterways that provide sustenance and shelter. This scene is a snapshot of the rhythms of nature where the wetlands serve as a crucial habitat for migratory birds. The photograph conveys a sense of motion and freedom, a fleeting glimpse of these majestic birds' journey through their seasonal cycle. It is a celebration of the wetlands' role in supporting diverse wildlife, a vital ecosystem that thrives in quiet corners of the world like this one.

Mukilteo Light Station

Lighthouse Park

Mukilteo, WA

The Mukilteo Light Station, nestled on the shores of Puget Sound in Mukilteo, Washington, is a beacon of maritime history and architectural charm. Constructed in 1905-1906, this iconic lighthouse was established to guide ships through the bustling waters of the Sound during a period of rapid growth in the Pacific Northwest. Its white octagonal tower, standing 38 feet tall, is paired with a red-roofed keeper's house, embodying classic early 20th-century lighthouse design. The light station played a critical role in aiding navigation, especially as trade and passenger routes expanded in the region. Automated in 1979, the lighthouse continues to shine as a symbol of Mukilteo's maritime heritage, The Mukilteo Light Station is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Oil on canvas

Edith and Milton Lowenthal Collection, Bequest of Edith Abrahamsom Lowenthal, 1991 1992.24.2

This composition embodies the syncopated rhythms of American jazz and the dynamism of modern life. Working with a limited palette of just five colors, plus black and white, the artist produced a tour-de-force of patterns, shapes, color combinations, and spatial ambiguities. Abstracted almost beyond recognition, the image is based on a garden, momentarily illuminated by the yellow-and-red light of a camera flash.

In this breathtaking winter vision, Ivanna embodies the pure, commanding grace of an Archangel descending into a world of snow and silence. Draped in shimmering frost-silver fabric, her gown catches the cold light like carved ice, blending regal elegance with celestial power. The delicate embroidery along her bodice and skirts evokes frozen branches and crystalline patterns—nature’s own artistry woven into couture.

Behind her, an ethereal halo of translucent wings radiates outward, glowing like a burst of starlight against the icy forest backdrop. Every detail—from her luminous makeup to the soft, mystical snowfall—creates the sense that she is a guardian spirit of winter itself, ushering in peace, stillness, and divine clarity.

This look is more than fashion—it’s a moment of magic, frozen in time. Ivanna doesn’t just wear the season… she becomes it.

Dress: [FAME] Gwen

* This enchanting winter gown is crafted for those who love storytelling through style. It includes a beautifully sculpted hood (not pictured) that adds an extra layer of mystery and elegance—perfect for queens, guardians, or wandering spirits of the frost.

Like all Porsche 911 GT models, the 911 GT3 is characterized by the absence of comfort features that are not necessary for sporty driving. For some automotive purists and especially for many Porsche enthusiasts, it embodies their preferred concentration on the features essential for sporty driving.

“I confront the city with my body; my legs measure the length of the arcade and the width of the square; my gaze unconsciously projects my body onto the facade of the cathedral, where it roams over the mouldings and contours, sensing the size of recesses and projections; my body weight meets the mass of the cathedral door, and my hand grasps the door pull as I enter the dark void behind. I experience myself in the city, and the city exists through my embodied experience. The city and my body supplement and define each other. I dwell in the city and the city dwells in me.”

In the spirit of Halloween, I offer the first of a series of shots inspired and embodied to celebrate one of my favourite times of year.

It feels like nearly every day we're faced with choices, ... tests of character. Sometimes it feels like with all the positive choices versus the negative choices, for some the answer comes easily. And there are many times that the answers aren't always clear cut or obvious. Rather, they are disguised as good intentions that, while we may very well mean well, don't always pan out that way.

The Grade I listed Piece Hall, Halifax is a rare and precious thing, an architectural and cultural phenomenon which is absolutely unique. It is the sole survivor of the great eighteenth century northern cloth halls, a class of buildings which embodied the vital and dominant importance of the trade in hand woven textiles to the pre-industrial economy of the West Riding of Yorkshire, from the Middle Ages through to the early nineteenth century.

Dating from 1779, when it was built as a Cloth Hall for the trading of ‘pieces’ of cloth (a 30 yard length of woven woollen fabric produced on a handloom), The Piece Hall was the most ambitious and prestigious of its type and now stands in splendid isolation as the only remaining example. It is one of Britain’s most outstanding Georgian buildings.

It is impossible to overstate the scale and importance of this trade, not just to the history of Halifax and the West Riding, but to the nation as a whole over some 800 years between the twelfth and eighteenth centuries.

On the shores of the Mediterranean, where the Corniche of Alexandria meets the spur of the Eastern Harbour, sits a collection of modern buildings which hearken back to the city’s storied and scholarly past. At once intimate in accessibility and vast in scale, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina complex includes much more than its erudite title would suggest, as it is comprised of four museums, digital archives, a planetarium, a conference center, and – of course – a library (to name just a few of its many features). Built as a modern reimagining of the Great Library of Alexandria of antiquity, the stated mission of Bibliotheca Alexandrina is to be “A center of excellence in the production and dissemination of knowledge and to be a place of dialogue, understanding and learning between cultures and peoples.”

This commemoration of Alexandria’s status as one of the foremost centers of learning for millennia is also reflected in the design of the library itself. A nearly 525 ft (160 m) diameter disc rises from a brilliantly tiled mosaic pool (a callback to the city’s antiquity), and gently rises skyward to a height of 105 ft (32 m). Evoking both the rising sun on the Mediterranean and the library’s forward-looking mission, the disc is encased in grey Aswan granite carved with characters from 120 human scripts.

Just as the circular geometry of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina embodies a connection to the unending passage of time, so too was my own inspiration for this piece a circular loop. Having been trained as an architect, there were a veritable multitude of precedent studies I carried out during my academic career. Bibliotheca Alexandrina was, in fact, my primary source of inspiration for a semester-long project designing an archive. Since that 2014 studio, under the careful instruction of Professor Jennifer Park, I had always wanted to design and build my own piece at my signature 1:650 scale. Despite the use of numerous new-for-2021 LEGO parts, it was, instead, my recently kindled interest in classical antiquity, combined with a profound respect for works designed to preserve this knowledge for future generations, which ultimately drew me to finally see this piece through to completion. Despite the many centuries which have come and gone since the shelves of the ancient Library of Alexandria were consumed in the flames of conquest, the sun has always risen over the Mediterranean; an endless cycle which we can only hope to apply as infinitely toward our own inspiration and progress. This, after seven years of considering its purpose, is what the Bibliotheca Alexandrina represents to me and is what I hope to pass along to others in this and all my work.

It's a Sun-drenched day in the house by the sea: Sea breeze, wisteria, and incense fill the air. A Labrador lounges lazily in the sun, while the room bathes in an afternoon glow, soft sofas and armchair warm to the touch. Budgies share a kiss, embodying an Italian summer romance dream."

Judaism (from the Greek Ioudaïsmos, derived from the Hebrew יהודה, Yehudah, "Judah"; in Hebrew: יַהֲדוּת, Yahedut, the distinctive characteristics of the Judean eáqnov) is a set of beliefs and practices originating from the saga of the ancient Israelites, as embodied and codified in the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh), as later further explored and explained in the Talmud and other texts. Judaism presents itself as the covenental relationship between the Children of Israel (later, the Jewish nation) and God. As such, many consider it the first monotheistic religion although many aspects of Judaism correspond to Western concepts of ethics and civil law. Judaism is among the oldest religious traditions still being practised today, and many of its texts and traditions are central to other Abrahamic religions. As such, Jewish history and the principles and ethics of Judaism have influenced various other religions, including Christianity and Islam.

Some sources say that the earliest Jews were those who settled in the Malabar coast during the times of King Solomon of Israel, and after the Kingdom of Israel split into two . They are sometimes referred to as the "black Jews". The Paradesi Jews, also called "White Jews", settled later, coming to India from European and Middle Eastern nations such as Holland and Spain, and bringing with them the Ladino language. Spanish and Portuguese Jews (Sephardim) settled in Goa in the 15th century, but this settlement eventually disappeared. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Cochin had an influx of Jewish settlers from the Middle East, North Africa and Spain.

Jews came to Kerala and settled as early as 700 BC for trade. An old, but not particularly reliable, tradition says that Jews of Cochin came in mass to Cranganore (an ancient port, near Cochin ,now known as Kodungallur) after the destruction of the Temple in 70 C.E. A chieftain by the name of Joseph Rabban, according to local tradition, was granted a principality over the Jews of Cochin by the Chera Emperor of Kerala, Bhaskara Ravivarman II . His descendents had, in effect, their own principality (called Anjuvannam in Indian sources) for many centuries until a chieftainship dispute broke out between two brothers (one of them named Joseph Azar) in the 15th century. The dispute led neighboring princes to dispossess them. In 1524, the Muslims, backed by the ruler of Calicut (today called Kozhikode), attacked the Jews of Cranganore on the pretext that they were tampering with the pepper trade. Most Jews fled to Cochin and went under the protection of the Hindu Raja there. He granted them a site for their own town that later acquired the name "Jew Town" (by which it is still known).

Unfortunately for the Jews of Cochin, the Portuguese occupied Cochin in this same period and indulged in persecution of the Jews until the Dutch displaced them in 1660. The Dutch Protestants were tolerant, and the Jews prospered. In 1795 Cochin was occupied by and came under the control of the British Empire. In the 19th century, Cochin Jews lived in the towns of Cochin, Ernakulam, Aluva and North Paravur.

For an insight to Cochin Jewish life in eighteenth Century. read Volume VIII (page 336 to 354) of The Land of the Permauls, Or, Cochin, Its Past and Its Present By Dr Francis Day, a British Civil Surgeon of 1863 AD .

The Jews of Cochin did not adhere to the Talmudic prohibition, followed by other Orthodox Jews, against public singing by women, and therefore have a rich tradition of Jewish prayers and narrative songs performed by women in Judeo-Malayalam.

This shot is taken from Jew Street , Mattancheri, Cochin. I visited the Jewish Synagogue also , unfortunately photography was not allowed there.

Giggles, the killer female clown, was a master of deception, hiding her malevolence behind an innocent facade. With her wide, doe-like eyes and a cherubic smile that never seemed to fade, Giggles had an uncanny ability to lull her victims into a false sense of security. However, beneath that charming exterior lay a sinister darkness that few ever glimpsed until it was too late. Giggles used her sugary-sweet demeanor to lure her unsuspecting prey closer, only to reveal her true, sadistic nature at the last moment. Her laughter, once tinkling and melodic, transformed into a chilling, maniacal cackle as she revealed her deadly intentions. Giggles was a living paradox, a clown who embodied both the innocence of childhood and the horrors of the abyss, a truly unforgettable embodiment of evil.

Khamlia is a small village near Merzouga. The uniqueness of this village stands at the fact that all its inhabitants are black Africans, but speak Berber as their mother tongue. They were taken from Mali, Sudan and Senegal during the slave trades, and displaced to Morocco centuries ago. The inhabitants brought with them the folkloric aspect of their life as embodied through the Gnawa music.

The North American XB-70 Valkyrie, a Cold War-era strategic bomber prototype, embodied cutting-edge technology. Powered by six engines, it could reach Mach 3 speeds at high altitudes. Its delta-wing design and exceptional performance made it an iconic symbol of aviation innovation, despite only two prototypes being built before the project's cancellation. With one of them being destroyed, this is the only surviving one.

You can also see Lockheed YF-12, prototype of famous SR71 Blackbird, in the foreground.
