The River Liffey (Irish: An Life) is a river in Ireland, which flows through the centre of Dublin. Its major tributaries include the River Dodder, the River Poddle and the River Camac. The river supplies much of Dublin's water and a range of recreational activities.
Ptolemy's Geography (2nd century AD) described a river, perhaps the Liffey, which he labelled Οβοκα (Oboka). Ultimately this led to the name of the River Avoca.
The Liffey was previously named An Ruirthech, meaning "fast (or strong) runner". The word Liphe (or Life) referred originally to the name of the plain through which the river ran, but eventually came to refer to the river itself. It was also known as the Anna Liffey, possibly from an anglicisation of Abhainn na Life, the Irish phrase that translates into English as "River Liffey". James Joyce embodies the river as "Anna Livia Plurabelle" in Finnegans Wake.
Behold the enchanting beauty of nature embodied in this charming grey squirrel! ️ With its soft, silver-gray fur and curious, beady eyes, it gracefully navigates the branches, bringing life and energy to the lush greenery of the forest.

Puerto Villamil (on the southeastern corner of Isla Isabela) embodies the archetypal end of the road – in a good way, the kind that lures weary city folks to pick up and move halfway around the world. Backed by a lagoon where flamingos and marine iguanas live, and situated on a beautiful white-sand beach, it’s a sleepy village of sandy roads and small homes. However, overdevelopment threatens, and there’s been something of a mini building boom over the past several years.
Undoubtedly, when General José Villamil moved here in 1832 with hopes of organizing a model community made up mostly of whalers, he found the location as beguiling as do today’s visitors. Unfortunately, the draftees’ peaceful inclinations proved to be more utopian than real, and they ended up destroying the colony. Villamil later introduced cows, horses and donkeys, which quickly reproduced, threatening the island’s delicate ecosystem.
"“See you at Sunset!” This iconic phrase has embodied the spirit and history of Key West since the event took off in the late 1960s! Beginning two hours before sunset, it’s a celebration and view that has captured the love and astonishment of iconic figures from Mark Twain in the 1800s to Tennessee Williams in the late 20th century! The Key West Sunset Celebration invites everyone to partake in watching the glowing pink and red sun sink into the Gulf of Mexico horizon. The nightly festival hosts visitors from all over the world who come to take part in the magicians, jugglers, clowns, psychics, local musicians, artists, and food vendors that combine for an incredible cultural experience. It is a fusion of friends and talents that has captivated tourists and locals alike. This nightly party has everything any local or guest could ever hope to stumble upon. The beauty, sheer history, and pure passion of this event have been immortalized in renowned art, stories, poetry, and photography!"

Danby Dale in the North Yorkshire Moor National Park is one of a series of valleys that flow north into the Esk, creating a pattern of valleys and ridges that give the area its distinctive character.
Rather unusually the village of Danby sits a little bit away from the dale. Danby Beck runs into the Esk on the eastern side of Castleton. Danby village is a mile to the east, and on the opposite side of the Esk, while Danby Castle is further east, nearer to Little Fryup Dale than Danby Dale.
McDonald's Creek stretches twenty miles to embody some of the most scenic views in Glacier National Park. It cuts through layers of fascinating geology and follows a large portion of "Going to the Sun," one of the most scenic drives in the park. As a main staple for the Kootenai Indians, it brought food, water and provided a gorgeous, natural location for their sacred ceremonies. The crystal clear water's path goes from wide to narrow, rushing to meandering steep canyon waterfalls to wide stepped falls, tumbling over shelves of bright red and green shales.

The tulip in the language of flowers
the tulip generally symbolizes love, but with nuances that vary according to its color. Purple, she embodies royalty. Blanche, she asks for forgiveness. Chaos embodied in a young Redbud Tree, Cercis canadensis, planted between the road and the old woodland in Cullinan Park, Sugar Land, Texas. Reminded me of the stringy distribution of Dark Matter on a cosmic scale, and of Vincent van Gogh’s “Flowering Plum Tree” (after Hiroshige, 1887), and especially “Almond Blossom” (1890), painted just before his death. Saw an exhibit of his work at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam some decades ago, which was interspersed with work by his contemporaries, treating similar subjects in not too dissimilar styles. On every wall, the merest glance would suffice to identify van Gogh, which invariably jumped out of the crowd to grab my attention.

The Chocolate Pansy Butterfly, also known as Junonia Iphita or Chocolate Soldier, is a captivating creature belonging to the Nymphalidae family, which is the largest group of butterflies globally. With its dark brown color resembling chocolate and the pansy flower, this fascinating species can be found throughout Asia, from India to China and Japan.
In Asia, this butterfly symbolizes different things such as strength and courage in India while representing love, beauty, and good luck in Thailand. Indian tradition even connects it with Lord Vishnu and Goddesses Laxmi to embody their grace, compassion, and beauty.
Being active during the day, they fly quickly and feed on flower nectar. They like to stay close to the ground and warm up under the sun or go to mud puddles for a drink of water and essential salts. This butterfly species experiences seasonal changes in appearance as they showcase slightly different wet and dry season forms.

This row of trees close to Pukehou, a small farming community in between Hastings and Waipawa in Hawke's Bay, is a regular subject of my photography. The fields here, as well as other parts of New Zealand, were recently flooded by Cyclone Gabrielle, causing significant damage to crops and houses.

None of these portraits won the Archibald, but they embodied the growing celebrity culture of the second half of the 20th century. In the world of Australian celebrity these two people stand out: Internationally known comedian Barry Humphries en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barry_Humphries and Ian “Molly” Meldrum en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molly_Meldrum. Although Molly is well known in rock music circles around the world for his quirky and passionate interviews, Barry is best known as his alter-ego Dame Edna Everage. www.youtube.com/watch?v=7G6K34GWeas
The colourful painting of Edna Everage resplendent in pink gloves and coat, with lime green dress and blue floral hat was painted by one of Australia’s greatest artists who usually worked in monochromatic tones of brown. It will surprise some people that this is by John Brack (1920-1999). www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMNuO_5YSFk
The painting was entered in the Archibald in 1969 when Barry Humphries was becoming established in Britain as a major star.

In this photograph I was fascinated to see the way the woman looking at this painting was wearing similar spectacles and hair style and the line of her neck matches that of Edna’s back.
The portrait of a confident looking Molly Meldrum is a tour de force by Wes Walters in 1983. Anyone who knows his interview style understands this was not always the case. www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0FooK4X9Zo
But the Egyptian theme is certainly something that fits Meldrum completely. He is a passionate collector of Egyptian artefacts. www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/artboards/archie-100/the-cult-o...
Temperance. Prudence. Courage. Justice.
The classic virtues are embodied by those who have earned the distinction to watch over the most sacred place in our country. In times of uncertainty, in times of war, in times of peace and prosperity, these young men and women remain ever vigilant, determined to achieve perfection in their duty.
None of them know who is entombed here. It is impossible to know if the unknown soldiers lived in a manner consistent with the honor bestowed upon them - it is unimportant. The tomb symbolizes the great sacrifice ordinary citizens have paid in order to secure the Blessings of our Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.
Unfortunately, in an age of increased jingoism espoused by demagogues, this symbolism often becomes distorted. Our nation thrives not because good men and women paid the ultimate measure of devotion to its cause. That sacrifice can never be repaid, nor should it be the goal to which our youth are called to aspire.
Constitutional scholar and Professor of Law at Duke University, H. Jefferson Powell finished an essay (published in The Summer 2006 edition of The Green Bag) entitled 'Constitutional Virtues' with the following: "The Constitution requires of us that we achieve decency and humanity. In that demand it achieves authority over us, not because we the People made it, but because it makes of us a People that we ought to be."
What matters more than the symbolism of the Tomb of the Unknowns is the fact that, in every generation, principled young men and women aspire to uphold these virtues above any circumstance or outside influence surrounding them. It is in the dedication of the Sentinel, who guards the honored unknown, that the power of their sacrifice is best represented. How powerful it would be if more Americans would routinely take 21-seconds to pause, vigilantly reflect, and aspire to be more humane and decent...in other words, more perfect in our duty as citizens.

In the summer of 2016, after 14 months of planning, the Leslieville Mural at the landmark corner of Queen & Jones was complete. The mural was designed and painted by renowned Toronto Grafitti Muralist Elicser Elliot.
The mural theme “In days of yore, on Leslieville shore, put down your phone and daydream under a Maple Tree” pays homage to the past, present and future of Leslieville by depicting a typical Leslievillian, contemplating the future, while resting under a giant maple tree. The Ralph Thornton Centre in conjunction with Ward 30 Councillor Fletcher’s office worked along with the Leslieville BIA, Leslieville Historical Society and community members to identify an artist and mural theme that embodied Leslieville. leslievillemural.com/

Windsor Castle is a royal residence at Windsor in the English county of Berkshire. It is strongly associated with the English and succeeding British royal family, and embodies almost a millennium of architectural history.
Windsor Castle grounds cover 13 acres (5.3 hectares).and combines the features of a fortification, a palace, and a small town. The present-day castle was created during a sequence of phased building projects, culminating in the reconstruction work after a fire in 1992. It is in essence a Georgian and Victorian design based on a medieval structure, with Gothic features reinvented in a modern style. Since the 14th century, architecture at the castle has attempted to produce a contemporary reinterpretation of older fashions and traditions, repeatedly imitating outmoded or even antiquated styles.[8] As a result, architect Sir William Whitfield has pointed to Windsor Castle's architecture as having "a certain fictive quality", the Picturesque and Gothic design generating "a sense that a theatrical performance is being put on here", despite late 20th century efforts to expose more of the older structures to increase the sense of authenticity.[9] Although there has been some criticism, the castle's architecture and history lends it a "place amongst the greatest European palaces

Teylers in Haarlem embodies the great ideals of the Enlightenment. The fortune of Pieter Teyler (1702-1778) was used to found a centre for contemporary art and science. It was conceived as a Mouseion or Musaeum, referring to the great institution in Alexandria, in which scholars and collections were brought together under one roof to pursue knowledge and to create art. It was a revolutionary act to install such a centre for burghers by burghers without any influence of the authorities. The monopoly on information by authorities was thus changed into a democracy of knowledge.
Lectures, demonstrations, scientific research and the creation of art all took place on its premises. Immediately after its foundation Teylers developed close ties with the scientific world in Europe, resulting in a stream of visitors, correspondence and the acquisition of objects for scientific use or for artistic inspiration. Its first acquisition was the Encyclopédie by Diderot and d'Alembert.
The epic centre of the activities was the Oval Room, finished in 1784, which was built behind the house of Pieter Teyler. In the course of time new rooms were added, responding to new needs of the public and the scientists and to the growing collections. Once installed the rooms were never changed. From c. 1920 it was not longer possible to finance the activities of the scientists and the artists and the transition to a museum was completed.
The Teylers museum has been on the TENTATIVE UNESCO World Heritage list since 2011.
