The Nuits Lumière has become an event awaited by all. From June to September the city illuminates the city center with its blue lights. Scenographies are projected on the different facades of the emblematic monuments of the historic center.
In 1999, Bourges was one of the first cities to launch its free light trail, for the transition to the year 2000. 20 years later, it is a brand new version of the Nuits Lumière de Bourges which highlights the heritage from the capital of Berry. New technologies and scenographies tell the story of the city on the facades of emblematic monuments, always with blue lighting as a common thread and a mascot, the bear linked to the history of Jean de Berry. The scenographies showcase the different eras and characters that made the city what it is today. The route ends with a brand new site never before illuminated: the facade of the old Town Hall and Archbishop's Palace, facing the Cathedral, listed as World Heritage by Unesco.
The Greater flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus) is the emblematic bird of the French Camargue region. This is the only region of France where these birds nest and one of the only places in the world where the flamingo lay back every year since 1969. On "Pond Fangassier " more than 10,000 Flamingos come to reproduce. These gregarious birds live in group in the wet zones. This large web-footed bird, prefers the large expanses of shallow salt water or brackish marshes and ponds, what explains its strong presence in the Camargue. These areas allow them to find their food, essentially constituted by shellfishes and seaweeds. Their beak which contains a system of comb, allows them to filter the water to retain the nourishing elements (shrimp artémia). The color of flamingos comes from their food rich in beta carotene. The young flamingos, are lightly colored.

It is a unique building from an architectural point of view, located in an emblematic place in the capital, Trapería Street. .The building is a mixture of different artistic currents that coexisted in the second half of the 19th and early 20th century in Spain and was declared a national historical-artistic monument in 1983.

The Torre del Oro is one of the most characteristic buildings of the city of Seville; its name is determined by its golden color that although until recently it was thought that it was due to the tile coating, the restoration that was carried out in the construction in 2005 determined that its color was produced by a straw and lime plaster that it covered the entire surface and gave the whole that characteristic tonality.

This is the best picture I was able to get of this bird, in dense vegetation, with its amazing crest raised. The long bill is well suited to finding those deeper invertebrates in the soil that others cannot reach. Seemingly emblematic of the Mediterranean, the species is in fact widely distributed from Europe to tropical Africa to China. The long, thin fleshy leaves are those of asphodel (Asphodelus sp.), abundant on the island.

Galerie Vivienne (1823)
Rue Vivienne
- Paris -
The Vivienne Gallery, one of the most emblematic covered passages in Paris, is listed as a historic monument since 1974.
Over a length of 176 meters, its decor is in neoclassical Pompeian style, with an elegant glass roof, an imposing dome and a colorful mosaic floor.
Renowned boutiques and restaurants, bookstores, antique shops, tea rooms, it is a true architectural masterpiece, and today the location of numerous events and exhibitions of recognized artists.
The over-lifesize marble Dionysus with Panther and Satyr in the Palazzo Altemps, Rome, is a Roman work of the 2nd century AD, found in the 16th century on the Quirinal Hill at the time foundations were being dug for Palazzo Mattei at Quattro Fontane.
The statue was purchased for the Ludovisi collection, where it was first displayed in front of the Palazzo Grande, the main structure of the Villa Ludovisi, and by 1641 in the gallery of sculptures in the Casino Capponi erected for Cardinal Ludovico Ludovisi in the villa's extensive grounds.
By 1885, it had been removed to the new Palazzo del Principe di Piombino, nearby in via Veneto. With the rest of the Boncompagni-Ludovisi collection, which was open to the public on Sundays and covered in the guidebooks, and where it had become famous, it was purchased in 1901 for the City of Rome, as the Ludovisi collection was dispersed and the Villa's ground built over at the end of the 19th century.
The formula, with somewhat exaggerated contrapposto, the god's right hand resting on his head, is based on the Apollo Lyceus, which is variously attributed and dated. This ivy-crowned Dionysus is accompanied by the panther that signalises his numinous presence, and a satyr of reduced size, a member of his retinue. Long locks of his hair fall girlishly over his shoulders and in his left hand he holds a bunch of grapes, emblematic of his status as god of wine.
The original elements are the heads, torsos and thighs of Dionysus and the satyr. The arms of the satyr and the lower legs and base are modern— that is, 16th-century— restorations.
Hommage à Auguste Perret, architecte.
It is considered an emblematic monument of modern architecture, and owes its fame to the fact that it is the first church built in reinforced concrete in France.
This reef that can be seen from the viewpoint of the sirens, next to the lighthouse of Cabo de Gata, is one of the most emblematic and photographed views of the Park. It is located at the exact geographical point of Cabo de Gata, therefore it is the easternmost part of southern Spain. Surely the place owes its name to the presence of monk seals that inhabited this reef and that the ancient navigators could confuse with sirens, there is currently no presence of these mammals on the coast of Cabo de Gata.
The reef formations that rise above the water level are ancient volcanic chimneys, and that owe their dark color to the material overturned by them. From the top of the viewpoint you can see the steep cliffs of the area and in the background, the water surrounding the reef, is like a crystal that allows us to observe the mosaic of the seabed coloring the sea of turquoise, green and all shades blue. (Source: www.cabogataalmeria.com)
The Porta Nigra (Black Gate) is the emblem of Trier. The Romans built it in the 2nd century AD from large blocks of sandstone assembled without cement that weighed up to 6 tons, held together by iron clamps. You can climb to the top to enjoy stunning views of the city.
The Porta Nigra, emblematic of Trier, is the best preserved Roman gate north of the Alps and is on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List. Built around 170 AD with around 7200 stone blocks, its solid construction has allowed the monument to be preserved until today.
With the end of the Roman Empire, a time of many changes, the city gate was used for various purposes. Thus, in the 11th century, it served as a residence for the monk Simeon, who lived there as a hermit. When he died, the monument was transformed into a church, which partly explains its survival. The following centuries were marked by renovation and maintenance measures. In 1803, during the reign of Napoleon, the church was dissolved and orders were given to restore it to its former design. Today, new measures have been taken to renovate and preserve the monument.

Matata Caves are located in the town of Meschers-sur-Gironde, about ten kilometers from Royan, Charente-Maritime. Near the caves of Regulus, they share many characteristics, they are a leading attraction.
The caves of Matata is a set of cave dwellings furnished in natural cavities over the centuries. Carved into powerful limestone cliffs overlooking the Gironde estuary of almost thirty meters, they are emblematic of the department of Charente-Maritime. Arranged on two floors, they form a network of cells that are accessed by corridors and stairs.
In the eighth century, Saracens dug, according to tradition, silos in terraces, still visible and which later served to hide the salt smuggling in order not to pay tax to the salt tax.
Saintongeais of traditional habitats have been restored, illustrating, models, furniture and support vessels, and the lives of those who have lived in these caves for centuries. One room has been converted into a small museum where fossils are presented as well as aquariums, where evolving animal species typical of the Gironde estuary (including sturgeon, which has long given the Gironde caviar).

Salvage, Terre Neuve, Canada
Salvage, Newfoundland, Canada
Newfoundland is above all a magical place with landscapes that change drastically from one region to another. Mountains top of bare rocks, incredibles fjords, coastal and inland Barrens home of the Woodland Caribou, vast wild freshwater lakes without even a cottage, rivers or Salmonids and Atlantic Salmon abounds but above all a coastal province where fishing was once a way of life ... The majority of the inhabitants are settled on the coast and there are almost no towns or villages in the interior except for some exceptions.
Here are 2 shots of Newfoundland's emblematic fisherman's hut at Salvage just down a peninsula to the northeast of the beautiful Terra Nova National Park.
Located on the former site of Le Grognon, a strategic and emblematic place in Namur, a stone's throw from the Parliament of Wallonia, La Confluence is a new public space and a place of meeting and conviviality.
Indeed, until recently, this space was not really highlighted. It is thanks to the subsidies allocated by the ERDF, for the period 2014-2020, that the City of Namur and the SPW have studied the various projects developed at the confluence of the Sambre and the Meuse within the framework of the "NAMUR INNOVATIVE CITY LAB”. Its objective: the implementation of urban innovation, encouraging the development of new urban products and services. Through this vast requalification project of the Confluence district, the objective of the public authorities was therefore to position it as a "showcase of the smart city, showcase of an innovative Wallonia".

"Nice, Winter Resort Town of the Riviera

Considered the tourist heart of old Nice, Place Rossetti is one of the liveliest in the city. A real meeting place, it has been dominated by the Sainte Réparate Cathedral of Nice since the 17th century. Listed as a Historic Monument since 1906, the building gives all its splendor to this unique square where the terraces of bars and restaurants are spread out, sheltered by colorful hangings. But what makes this place one of the most popular with the people of Nice and especially vacationers is certainly the emblematic "Fenocchio" ice cream parlor. For more than 55 years, this is where gourmets meet (source Nice Côte d'Azur tourist office)
Property of the Crown, then royal residence, Chenonceau Castle is an exceptional site not only because of its original design, the richness of its collections, its furniture and its decorations, but also because of its destiny, since it was loved, administrated and protected by women, who were all extraordinary and who, for the most part have marked history.
For the historical background, the “Château des Dames” was built in 1513 by Katherine Briçonnet, and successively embellished by Diane de Poitiers then Catherine de Medici. Chenonceau was protected from the hardship of the revolution by Madame Dupin.
The iron, but very feminine, fist in the velvet glove has always preserved Chenonceau during times of conflict and war in order to make it forever a place of peace.
Chenonceau Castle has an exceptional museum collection of the Old Masters’ paintings: Murillo, Le Tintoret, Nicolas Poussin, Le Corrège, Rubens, Le Primatice, Van Loo... as well as an extremely rare selection of Flanders Tapestries from the 16th century.
Throughout its history, this emblematic Castle has always attracted talent and inspired great artists. Conveying beauty and combining the elegance of architecture with that of the spirit is also sharing an elegant way of life.
At Chenonceau Castle, the flower display in every sumptuously furnished room adds to its elegance. The room of Five Queens, the living room of Louis XIV, the grand gallery overlooking the River Cher, fabulous kitchens constructed in the piers of the bridge, the Green Cabinet of Catherine de Medici...Step by step, Chenonceau takes you back in time to share its dreams and reveal its secrets.
it is classified as historical monuments by decree of February 20, 1941. The castle presents a unique architecture which combines with talent parts borrowed from medieval architecture and others which bear witness to the influence of the time: the Renaissance . This emblematic Bergerac chateau has remained unruffled since the end of the 16th century, when the quality of its wines was known far beyond the borders of Aquitaine. This consistency is an exception in a region where wars, peasant revolts or revolution hardly left the aristocratic facades that dotted the landscape at rest.

The Greater flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus) is the emblematic bird of the French Camargue region. This is the only region of France where these birds nest and one of the only places in the world where the flamingo lay back every year since 1969. On "Pond Fangassier " more than 10,000 Flemish come to reproduce. Darmstadt: Hochzeitsturm, or Wedding Tower, an impressive monument designed by Joseph Maria Olbrich that was inaugurated in 1908. It was built to commemorate the second marriage of the Grand Duke of Hesse Ernst Ludwig and Princess Eleonore of Solms-Hohensolms-Lich, which took place on 2 February 1905. Olbrich wanted the tower to be the crowning work of the urbanisation of the Darmstadt artists' colony, with an emblematic building on the highest part of the hill. His tower would, therefore, become an element the city could be identified with.

Santo Domingo de Guzman: Located on Avenue 20 de Noviembre. This is one of the city’s most beautiful and emblematic buildings. The first stone for the church was placed in 1547 by Francisco Marroquin, Bishop of Guatemala. It seems that the current church dates from the 17th century, but elements predating this were undoubtedly used for its construction. The exterior has been modified - apparently the façade was between two structures of which the southernmost is gone and there remain only some traces of it on the church wall. The façade is exquisitely decorated and on it a great Dominican coat-of-arms stands out. The mortared decoration, which covers the entire façade, deserves special attention. The motifs are unusual and make this façade one of the most ornate from Mexican and Central American colonial art. To find these motifs requires a minutely precise observation: There are anagrams, little angels, sirens and personages between lions. The Dominican House of Antigua, no longer standing, may have been its model. The pulpit is of remarkable beauty. Its structure rises upon a pedestal profusely carved in the likeness of a sumptuous golden challis. It is one of Mexico's best. Inside you’ll see motifs of indigenous design. Sure to grab your attention are a pair of two-headed eagles that flank the sculpture of Santo Domingo. Open daily from 08:00 to 19:00.
After two years of restoration in the rules of the art, the chapel of Garoupe, classified in the inventory of historical monuments and place of worship devoted reopened its doors to visitors and worshipers. An emblematic and patrimonial site, the Garoupe sanctuary (where the Garoupe and Calvaire Chapel are located) is also a very popular place offering an exceptional panorama of the city.
The local tradition is that in ancient times this place was dedicated to Selene, goddess of the moon. According to legend, at the beginning of the fourth century AD, St. Helena, mother of the Emperor Constantine who made Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire, would have stopped at Antipolis and would have liked to see a chapel built on the plateau of the Garoupe.
From the current building, one can distinguish three buildings whose chronology is difficult to determine: a tower, the chapel of Our Lady of the Guard and the chapel Saint Helena. The tower could be the first building built, first wooden, then hard in the fifteenth century.
The building has two naves: the main nave, dedicated to Notre-Dame de la Garde, the secondary nave, at Notre-Dame de Bon Port. The latter offers visitors a vast fresco made in 1948 by the painter Édouard Collin.
The main nave is decorated with a fresco by Jacques-Henri Clergues in 1952/1953, and inspired by two historical episodes: the stopover of Pope Gregory XI in Antibes in 1376 and the gift of René de Savoie for the expansion of the chapel in 1520.
The altarpiece that adorns the choir is the work of the master-sculptor Joseph Dolle to whom we owe the doors of the cathedral. It has just been fully restored.
This emblematic sculpture is located in the Parque de los Pueblos next to the Casa de Juntas and the Tree of Guernica. It was made by the sculptor Eduardo Chillida in 1987.
The work, made of concrete, which is almost eight meters high and 18 meters wide, tries to symbolize, in the words of the sculptor, a Basque Country oriented towards art. The sculpture is in the form of an open prow to testify to the will of the Basque people to move forward.
The sculptor said that he conceives his work as an open house and boat, in a space that is extraordinarily activated by bordering the sculpture. The walls are opened by an enormous hole that for Chillida represents the window that communicates with the Gernika tree. The steel funerary stela installed on one of the walls of the work, "a symbol of peace", attempts, according to the sculptor, to establish a counterpoint with the Gernika tree, a dialogue with the surroundings, and constitutes the axis and work reference point.
Chillida, who has very few works in the Basque Country, said that this sculpture, based on the symbolic universe of the Gernika tree, is one of his greatest joys. The 46 cubic meters of selected and treated wood, the 7,000 screws and the 3,500 lag screws used in the formwork give an idea of the scope of this sculptural work.
The work, called "Gure Aitaren Etxea", which means "Our father's house" was commissioned by the Basque Government to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the bombing of Guernica. It is a monument dedicated to peace and designed so that, from its window, the Tree of Guernica could be seen (approximately 200 meters from it).

The town of Camprodon, in Catalonia, is a quite touristic spot in the Pyrenees since early XX Century, although this strategic place has seen also a lot of wars and fighting since medieval times and up to the spanish civil war in 1939.
The most famous spot is the medieval bridge built c.1196-1226, and aptly known as the Pont Nou ("New Bridge"; in fact it's quite common to have "new bridges" to be the oldest in some cities, like Paris itself, where the Pont Neuf is the oldest one standing).
Salomon Run Barcelona is a footrace around the Montjuïc hill, through stairs, parks, streets and emblematic spots of Barcelona. The track will be 10km and 180m of positive slope with stairs, dirt sections, sections of asphalt and sidewalks with some stretches of steep slopes both upstream and downstream. The race should be done running but it is allowed to walk in the toughest sections.

National Taiwan Normal University was founded in 1922 during the japanese colonial era(1895-1945), originally named Taihoku High School. Later on June 5, 1946, it was recognized as the Taiwan Provincial College of Education and took up the responsibility for renewed teacher training in the Taiwan region. In the photo was the historical auditorium and a modern art signpost indicating different universities around the world.
Why I choose this for the theme is that NTNU used to be my dream college to attend. It symbolized knowledge to me and the responsibility to be part of the educational system to pass it on.
I especially find the road sign interesting because to me, it seems to question me which way to, the future (the modern business building) or the past (the historical building)? It could lead to different paths, choices in life, depending on what your heart desires.
