The 4,630-acre plantation on Edisto Island was a gift from the Margaret Pepper family. It was given to the state in 1977 by Mr. Pepper, but was only able to be used after his wife passed away so she would have the opportunity to continue her years on the land she loved, as per her husband's request.
In July 2008, the land - now a Wildlife Management Area operated by South Carolina's Department of Natural Resources - was made open to the public.
Botany Bay Plantation The land itself is full of nature's rich beauty - from the sunflower fields to the salt marsh and fresh water ponds to the Spanish moss draped oaks to the miles of private beach; it is emblematic of South Carolina's unique environment.

The castle of Almourol is one of the more emblematic and cenographic medieval military monuments of the Reconquista, and best representation of the influence of the Knights Templar in Portugal. When it was conquered in 1129, by forces loyal to the Portuguese nobility, it was then known as Almorolan, and placed in the trust of Gualdim Pais, the master of the Knights Templar in Portugal, who rebuilt the structure. The structure was reconstructed, starting in 1171 (from an inscription over the principal gate) and restored during the subsequent reigns.

How many trails of those massive mountain ranges would it take to conquer the summit of what would be the highest “mountain” in the Empire of Brazil? It was long, tortuous, very cold and humid, the path that ended above the clouds, at 2,892 meters of altitude. But the imposing peak needed to be duly conquered and demarcated by the national flag, the green, yellow, white and indigo blue flag of Brazil.
For it was Dom Pedro II who ordered that the symbol of the Brazilian nation be installed with gallantry there in those heights, at a point located on the border of the territory that would become the states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. The conquest of the place that soon came to be called Pico da Bandeira had repercussions and was very emblematic, but even today the unfathomable beauties of the region once dominated by a thriving Atlantic forest, guardian of very important natural treasures of this biome so sadly mistreated throughout the centuries.

Pedraforca is an emblematic mountain of Catalonia that is located in the Sierra del Cadí, within the area of the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park, bordering the provinces of Barcelona and Lleida (in the Berguedà region). It has a very peculiar shape due to its two peaks separated by a large col. Its best known view is the one that can be seen from its eastern slope. The northern summit is made up of two peaks: Pollegó Superior (2,506 m) together with Calderer (2,505 m). The southern peak is made up of the Lower Pollegó (2445 m). The closest towns are Gósol and Saldes.
In 1982, it was declared a natural area of national interest by the Parliament of Catalonia. It is a particularly attractive mountain formation due to its U-shaped profile, a peculiarity that gives it its name.
The main characteristic of the Pedraforca massif is its geological complexity, of great interest. In an area of a few square kilometres, the upper mantle of Pedraforca, the lower mantle and the mantle of Cadí converge, from top to bottom, witnesses to the uplift of the Pyrenees during the Alpine orogeny. The upper mantle consists of a series formed by materials from the Keuper, the Jurassic, a considerable thickness of sediments from the Lower Cretaceous and a few meters from the Upper Cretaceous.
It was formed about 25 million years ago. Wind and water erosion gave it its current shape on the top, which is made up of materials more sensitive to erosion. Additionally, periods of ice and thaw have progressively crumbled the rock, forming the famous slope of the east face (La Tartera).
There are still some water supplies that maintain wildlife in Doñana. This is one of them and there we find a small colony of wild flamingos in which adults and young people mix, spending the winter.
Let's hope that those responsible for protecting life in this emblematic place will react without delay. Drought and excessive exploitation of water resources, among other factors, are causing what may become the permanent destruction of wealth and biodiversity in the Guadalquivir marshes.
Cuenca, Castilla La Mancha

Machu Picchu 20221127
In the middle of the Amazon rainforest, there is the beautiful stone fortress of the city of Machu Picchu, which is undoubtedly one of the most emblematic destinations of South America and the world today, with an age dating back more than 500 years old, Machu Picchu captivates every person who likes to venture to travel and know the world. This cultural and natural heritage of humanity is a unique and rare place, for all the mysteries that, more than a hundred years after its discovery, continue to hide in the sight of all travelers.
Machu Picchu is located at an altitude of (2,430 meters above sea level; In front of it rises Huayna Picchu, which gives the classic geography to the archaeological zone, its peak reaches 2,720 meters above sea level.
Santo Domingo de Guzman: Located on Avenue 20 de Noviembre. This is one of the city’s most beautiful and emblematic buildings. The first stone for the church was placed in 1547 by Francisco Marroquin, Bishop of Guatemala. It seems that the current church dates from the 17th century, but elements predating this were undoubtedly used for its construction. The exterior has been modified - apparently the façade was between two structures of which the southernmost is gone and there remain only some traces of it on the church wall. The façade is exquisitely decorated and on it a great Dominican coat-of-arms stands out. The mortared decoration, which covers the entire façade, deserves special attention. The motifs are unusual and make this façade one of the most ornate from Mexican and Central American colonial art. To find these motifs requires a minutely precise observation: There are anagrams, little angels, sirens and personages between lions. The Dominican House of Antigua, no longer standing, may have been its model. The pulpit is of remarkable beauty. Its structure rises upon a pedestal profusely carved in the likeness of a sumptuous golden challis. It is one of Mexico's best. Inside you’ll see motifs of indigenous design. Sure to grab your attention are a pair of two-headed eagles that flank the sculpture of Santo Domingo. Open daily from 08:00 to 19:00.
Winter is getting closer and closer, so I will talk about one of the most important and emblematic places in Bariloche, Cerro Catedral, which is located 19 km from the city center.
The base of this mountain is 1,030 meters above sea level and its highest peak reaches 2,388 meters. It belongs to the Andes Mountains, which originated with the subjugation of plates that millions of years ago caused the rocky outcrops to rise abruptly. Despite its millions of years, Cerro Catedral is considered a geologically young formation, proof of this are its pointed peaks that gave rise to the name of this mountain, because they resemble a Gothic cathedral. Another striking feature of this hill is its deep U-shaped valleys, which shows that different glacier tongues / glaciers thousands of years ago.

Among the many charming places that we find in Urdaibai, today we propose a pleasant walk through a small forest in Gernika-Lumo, which is located next to the emblematic Casa de Juntas, current headquarters of the General Assemblies of Bizkaia and with a name of the most communal: The Park of the Peoples of Europe.
And it is that all seasons suit this place, but without a doubt autumn and spring are her favorite looks. Specifically in Autumn, the trees get flirty and put out their best clothes of intense red and orange colors. The floors, or become padded beds of dry leaves, inviting you to make the angel, or classic gardens where you want to run down as if you were Heidi.
This small corner in the middle of Gernika offers different landscapes, but the representation of the four ecosystems of the Atlantic Basque Country stands out, where you can see native trees of the area, such as beech, oak or holm oak, and also a small stream that crosses these ecosystems and ends in a pond with ducklings.
Within the same park is the Euskal Herria Museum, which occupies the beautiful Palacio Alegría, former residence of the Count of Montefuerte. As a curiosity, this mansion had a botanical garden in which there was a tree from each of the countries that his children visited, who worked as consuls and diplomats. Quite a few copies still survive.
Property of the Crown, then royal residence, Chenonceau Castle is an exceptional site not only because of its original design, the richness of its collections, its furniture and its decorations, but also because of its destiny, since it was loved, administrated and protected by women, who were all extraordinary and who, for the most part have marked history.
For the historical background, the “Château des Dames” was built in 1513 by Katherine Briçonnet, and successively embellished by Diane de Poitiers then Catherine de Medici. Chenonceau was protected from the hardship of the revolution by Madame Dupin.
The iron, but very feminine, fist in the velvet glove has always preserved Chenonceau during times of conflict and war in order to make it forever a place of peace.
Chenonceau Castle has an exceptional museum collection of the Old Masters’ paintings: Murillo, Le Tintoret, Nicolas Poussin, Le Corrège, Rubens, Le Primatice, Van Loo... as well as an extremely rare selection of Flanders Tapestries from the 16th century.
Throughout its history, this emblematic Castle has always attracted talent and inspired great artists. Conveying beauty and combining the elegance of architecture with that of the spirit is also sharing an elegant way of life.
At Chenonceau Castle, the flower display in every sumptuously furnished room adds to its elegance. The room of Five Queens, the living room of Louis XIV, the grand gallery overlooking the River Cher, fabulous kitchens constructed in the piers of the bridge, the Green Cabinet of Catherine de Medici...Step by step, Chenonceau takes you back in time to share its dreams and reveal its secrets.

In 1912, Deauville was an epicenter of ambition and elegance. Parisian high society came to dazzle, see and be seen, indifferent to the geopolitical tensions that would soon break out the Great War. With her, a certain Gabrielle Chanel, 29, a talented milliner. Gabrielle is not yet a personality, but her style is already surprising. A sophisticated style because simple, rich because poor. A style that will soon become emblematic.

Mentioned in the 11th century, probably built in wood and then rebuilt in stone in the 12th century, this fabulous building was in turn a medieval castle, a border fortress reworked by Charles V then by Vauban, state prison under the Ancien Régime, the Revolution and the Empire - Toussaint Louverture, the young Mirabeau or even Heinrich Von Kleist were locked up there - then an artillery fort integrated into the Maginot line. It is a life-size summary of the history of military architecture over the past ten centuries.
Emblematic monument of Haut-Doubs, it is located in a grandiose natural site. it overlooks the Pontarlier lock opening the passage to Switzerland in the Jura massif. It is part of the municipality of La Cluse-et-Mijoux (Doubs). It has been classified as a Historic Monument since 1996.

The Pont Alexandre III was built for the 1900 World Exhibition and was dedicated to the Tsar Alexander III. It is classified as a French Historical Monument.
Because of its architecture and its geographical location, this bridge is one of the most emblematic of the capital.
Each of its ends is decorated with one monumental pylon of 17 meters of height, adorned with one winged horse of golden bronze that symbolize the success of the arts, the sciences, commerce and the industry, respectively.
The bridge Alexander III joins the Invalides, on one side of the Seine, with the Grand and the Petit Palais on the other one.

Located in the Arenal neighborhood in front of the Cathedral, it is a semicircular interior square built in the 20th century and attached to the old city wall. It is one of the most emblematic and quiet places in the center, next to the bustling Avenida de la Constitución and one of the most recent to join the heritage of the city. It has a semicircular shape. In the center is a fountain. On its curved side there is a three-storey building: the first two with wide balconies and a series of arcades, decorated by the painter José Palomar, which are supported by marble columns, forming a gallery on the ground floor. In the gallery there are several shops specialized in numismatics, philately and antiques.
Hanoi's Red Bridge, known as The Huc (rising sun), is almost unintentionally one of the most iconic places in the city. Also, it is one of the most popular images (appearing in many movies and postcards). This bridge gives access to the jade island where the Ngoc Son temple is located. Its intense red color stands out with the green of the grove and the lake.

Vision of Manhattan (New York) captured against the light from the Rockefeller Center's "Top of the Rock" observatory. At the top of that emblematic New York skyscraper and faced with such a vision, I could not help but have the feeling that at any moment I would see the almighty Superman waving his cape in the air and his arm stretched out towards his destiny, or perhaps that less strong and just as fantastic Spiderman, throwing his strings from facade to facade... But who I really would have preferred to see, is the most human of all...The man with bat wings...The flying man with the black cape and his thousand gadgets...The unbeatable Batman...The hero of Gotham City... But I realized that daydreaming! So I just captured what was in front of me.

At the Grange du Bois above Solutré, you can see the two emblematic Rocks of the Mâconnais: the Roche de Solutré (on the right) and the Roche de Vergisson (on the left). In the background stretches the Val Lamartinien, which leads to Mâcon and the plain of the Saône river.
On this beautiful spring day, a charming carpet of daisies adorned the meadow in front of me.
