The "Seven Sisters" is the English name given to a group of Moscow skyscrapers designed in the Stalinist style. Muscovites call them Vysotki or Stalinskie Vysotki which means Stalin's tall buildings. They were built during the dictator's last years between 1947 to 1953, in an elaborate combination of Russian Baroque and Gothic styles, and the technology used in building American skyscrapers. This is the apartment building on Kotyelnicheskaya Nabyerezhnaya embankment in Moscow.
There aren't many rivers in the world as oft-tagged as this one.

On Friday afternoon, Anna and I thought it would be fun to explore the (in)famous Los Angeles River. We both have an interest in strange urban spaces, and both looking to research the river for future artistic interpretations (she's working on sharing the story of the river through documentary film, I'll be doing a piece for one of my classes at Art Center). Although the river itself is huge (runs about 51 miles through the city), we spent our time at a soft-bottomed section of the river (in contrast to most of the rest of the river, which is paved over with concrete) in Los Feliz.
We had a problem with the car, and had to call out the AA. Luckily it was a beautiful Spring day, and we were just by The Embankment in Wellingborough. So we were able to wait sitting by the river admiring the swans.

On Google Maps here you can trace the route of the long defunct railway line that branched off from the main line at Aspatria and travelled across country to Bowness, where it crossed the Solway and landed on the Scottish side at Annan. The embankment seems to be covered with trees and shrubs now. I couldn't get near it today as the tide was in, and the marshy ground was only passable to creatures with 4 feet.

Shot of one of the horses in the field opposite the embankment in Wellingborough. These animals are out year round with no shelter and often in a soaking field. This one in particular has a mane that is completely matted with burrs, to the point where only clipping the mane off would remove them. It must be very uncomfortable for it.
They seem to survive on very little grass and are fed by the public. I don't know how much food if any is given by the owners.
