The River Great Ouse passes through Bedford town centre and is lined with gardens and parks, amongst these is the Embankment.
The Embankment and Mill Meadows are frequently referred to as the Jewel in Bedford's Crown. The river was artificially widened by the Victorians, and the Embankment Gardens linked to Mill Meadows on the other side of the river by the Suspension Bridge in 1888, with Bedford Park inaugurated on the same day as the opening of the bridge.
They created an inland promenade along which modern Bedfordians and visitors alike still love to amble, taking in the riverside views and the dazzling bedding displays of the Embankment Gardens.
Within these gardens stands a war memorial to the fallen of the First World War. The memorial was designed in 1921 by the sculptor Charles Sargeant Jagger and depicts a Knight vanquishing a dragon. This is the focal point for the Remembrance Sunday Parade, which is attended by a number of organisations, including Bedfordshire Police.
The Victorians built the Embankment to serve as a prime leisure area, and this continues to this day. Both the Star Rowing Club and Bedford Rowing Club are located nearby, and a number of regattas take place alongside the Embankment each year.

After a frustrating day of showers followed by sun, I finally captured this half decent shot with some nice reflections along the Embankment!
The "Seven Sisters" is the English name given to a group of Moscow skyscrapers designed in the Stalinist style. Muscovites call them Vysotki or Stalinskie Vysotki which means Stalin's tall buildings. They were built during the dictator's last years between 1947 to 1953, in an elaborate combination of Russian Baroque and Gothic styles, and the technology used in building American skyscrapers. This is the apartment building on Kotyelnicheskaya Nabyerezhnaya embankment in Moscow.
There aren't many rivers in the world as oft-tagged as this one.

On Friday afternoon, Anna and I thought it would be fun to explore the (in)famous Los Angeles River. We both have an interest in strange urban spaces, and both looking to research the river for future artistic interpretations (she's working on sharing the story of the river through documentary film, I'll be doing a piece for one of my classes at Art Center). Although the river itself is huge (runs about 51 miles through the city), we spent our time at a soft-bottomed section of the river (in contrast to most of the rest of the river, which is paved over with concrete) in Los Feliz.
We had a problem with the car, and had to call out the AA. Luckily it was a beautiful Spring day, and we were just by The Embankment in Wellingborough. So we were able to wait sitting by the river admiring the swans.

On Google Maps here you can trace the route of the long defunct railway line that branched off from the main line at Aspatria and travelled across country to Bowness, where it crossed the Solway and landed on the Scottish side at Annan. The embankment seems to be covered with trees and shrubs now. I couldn't get near it today as the tide was in, and the marshy ground was only passable to creatures with 4 feet.

Along the Little Missouri River downstream from the Narrows Dam. You can tell there are times the water really rushes through here.
