I accidently broke the case of some old notebooks, so I just inspected it in detail. This is a macro shot of the lower side of the mainboard. Pretty huge ICs for today's time.
I hadn't used this for awhile. The reception is a bit fuzzier than it had been. It may be that there are too many computers nearby.

My latest board design is for the old National Semiconductor DigiTalker chipset.
DigiTalker is a voice synthesis system with 144 pre-loaded words that can be sequenced and arranged to make basic sentences. And, it sounds really good even by today's standards, but for one reason or another the product never really took off and National discontinued the DigiTalker line somewhere around 1990. I picked up this chipset back in the early 90's for about $25.
I've had this chipset breadboarded for years (www.afox-consulting.com/graphics/DigiTalker1.jpg) and decided to make a circuit board so it would be more portable, reliable and take up less room. So.... here it is.

What has to be the only car to really get me excited at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the Chevy Volt for 2016 boasts some really impressive features that for fuel efficiency and economy are hard to beat. The cockpit electronics and technology package is quite impressive as well

Today I finished the first phase of the PHP code I have been writing for the past week or so, to integrate with MS SQL on our server at work. It integrates with a well known rental management software package which we'll be using at Chequer Mead as an inventory manager. The script I've written allows us to add items and record PAT tests much quicker and will little fuss, compared to the integrated software technique. Let's hope there aren’t too many bugs! :-/
Finally loaded a film on this bad boy that I recently bought from my friend Bryan. Looking forward to what I can make out of it.

A low quality low cost HD camera that produces 25fps 1920x1080 20000kb/s MJPEG video streams together with pcm_s16le 32000 Hz 1 channel 512 kb/s audio streams. If you record audio while charging, a loud buzzing noise will be recorded.

The display on my 1960s-vintage Hewlett Packard 132A dual-beam oscilloscope is dead, and I suspect the problem is the CRT tube. But before I can search for a replacement, I had to get the part number. And to get the part number, I had to poke around inside.
Now I know, so If you happen to have a spare HP 5083-0722 CRT tube on hand, or if you have any idea how to fix this, please give me a shout.
