Zeiss Ikon Contax II, mine is from 1937. some will say the Contax series was superior to the Leica's of the time, I suppose it just depends on your likes. I personally prefer the Leica camera as a shooter but the Contax for it's looks. The wider more accurate rangefinder is a plus but it seems heavier and more clunky. I don't know, shoot, they're both nice

I got mine (body) for under $50 as an "as is, parts camera". I gave it as much of a CLA as I could without taking the shutter mechanism apart. I also, thanks to the help of forum friends, discovered the reason for the RF patch being off at infinity. I cleaned the RF optics and gave it a good exterior cleaning. I used Kiwi shoe polish to make the leatherette pop!

HMS Defender is the fifth of the Navy’s six state-of-the-art Type 45 destroyers – Defender was built in Glasgow which is one of her two affiliated cities (the other is Exeter). After delivery to her home port of Portsmouth in July 2012 and acceptance into the Fleet in March 2013, she is now undergoing extensive sea trials and training in order to undertake operational duties anywhere in the world when tasked.

When I bought my Konica T3 I wasn’t prepared for what I got. I never expected it to be such a magnificent piece of engineering, easily surpassing any camera in its range. Today fate put an Autoreflex T (unofficially known as T2) that came before the T3. This time I was ready for it! Same superlative build, classic design with that lovely triangular shaped prism housing and removable hotshoe. Don’t be fooled, this is a large and heavy camera.

For a 1970 camera, the viewfinder is a delight, relatively big, bright and, heresy Mr. Dan James, full of information! The viewfinder information is truly amazing considering that it is all done mechanically. Konica called it the Polymechanical viewfinder. This viewfinder deserves a moment of glory, let’s see what it shows:

-Shutter speed

-Maximum aperture of the lens in use

-Aperture selected in auto mode

-M for manual mode

-Metering range (changes according to the ASA setting)

-Battery check

Bear in mind that all this is done mechanically, no Leds, bulbs or electronics, it is truly amazing.

The camera is not short on features either. It is a fully mechanical camera with a shutter priority mode. No battery means no shutter priority, but a 100% fully functional camera. It also features mirror lock-up (with self-timer), depth of field preview, full open TTL metering and it features the AR lens, here it is an early example of the famous Hexanon 50/1.7 still with the EE in the lens ring diaphragm instead of the normal AE. In Konica tradition, the shutter is in metal and vertically run. It is a bit loud, but the hefty build muffles most of the excess noise.

I feel a bit sorry for Konica, I have some of their cameras that are truly outstanding and second to none in build quality. They lost the direction at some point with fatal consequences, but their legacy is not to be ignored.

I sold many of these in the late '70's to early '80's. A good little camera with a great lens. Even though selenium cell cameras were clearly outdated in those days, they were perfect for the person who only needed a camera for infrequent snap-shooting and didn't want to fuss with batteries. These days, it has a pleasant vintage look. The 35-year-old meter on this one is dead - I know, amazing, right?

It's fast, it's slick, it rocks.

This thing is fast, though it took about 3 reboots for all teh snappy to emerge, it's built really well, much better than my iBook was (no creaks), the display is huge, gorgeous and bright, the keyboard is taking me a while to get used to (Thank the iGods that Apple make it easy to disable the caps lock key or this entire thing would be shouted), it's warm but *not* hot (I got the 5200rpm HD for this reason alone), Magsafe is just about sensitive enough to avoid catastrophe, but magnetic enough to not come out when you don't want it to, the built in iSight doesn't seem to be at the optimum angle for me while I'm sitting on the sofa, though it improves if I pop the computer on a desk.

Rosetta is fast, quick and transparent (I have a tv usb stick and the app it uses isn't a universal binary, yet it runs perfectly without sucking down CPU), although iPhoto is currently choking on my library so I'm calling AppleCare tomorrow to sort that out.

All in all, I'm a very happy consumerist bunny.

there shall be only 1 standing in the end

Surprisingly, this make it to Explore. Thank you.

As a kid, I basically destroyed one of this baby that belonged to my father (what can you expect from unruly children ;-p). I never actually saw my father that I can remember (he died when I was a year old), but we have a picture of him standing with this Voigtlander Bessamatic on his shoulder. I not only destroyed the camera, I also lost it somehow. Anyway, I have seen that picture of my father recently and spoke to my brother who confirmed that it was a Voigtlander Bessamatic, so I started to look for one. Thank God for Ebay, I came across this baby ... I had to get it (don't know still it will work, but I am taking pic with it). Even if it doesn't work, I plan to keep it this time. This camera was out from 1958-1962 made in West Germany (well, they didn't unit then as you know ;p)

oh yeah, just in case you are wondering why it looks grainy? Well, I didn't want to use any flash or other lighting, just my kitchen light and ISO 3200 :-p ...
