A historical election indeed.
I went from a stance of not wanting to vote at all, to voting Obama. I knew from the beginning I would vote for him, or no one. I have a hard time trusting politics, and a hard time accepting the promises thrown out in speeches and debates. But I wanted to feel like a part of history in a small way, and now I do. I am anxious to see the change he so passionately speaks of.

South Dakota Public Broadcasting held a debate with all four U.S. Senate candidates in South Dakota October 23, 2014.
The race gained national attention.
Some polls show a close race among three of the candidates – Democrat Rick Weiland, Republican Mike Rounds and Independent Larry Pressler – with Independent Gordon Howie far behind. They are seeking the seat held by Sen. Tim Johnson (D), who is retiring.

The night was electric....
Like a burden had just been lifted and a door finally opened. I have never seen my people so happy...

This is a Thomas Nast drawing illustrating election day, 1864. It is a leaf from an original November, 1864 edition of Harper's Weekly. the leaf presents Columbia, with a shield bearing the Union Flag, voting in the election. This would have been the presidential election between incumbent Abraham Lincoln, and democratic challenger George McClellan. Columbia is shown with the symbols of war. She has the shield, and she is baring a large sword. If you look closely at the ballot, Columbia is voting for Abraham Lincoln, and his union platform. Waiting to vote is an angel with a banner that says "peace". She, presumably will be voting for McClellan and his Compromise with the South platform. She appears to be bound in chains by demonic forces behind her baring daggers saying "Northern Traitors", and "Southern Rebellion". This is a classic Nast image, and shows the theme that runs through his illustration, that the Civil War was both a worldly and spiritual war. His art often showed themes of angelic and demonic beings behind the activities of the Civil War.

This pic is taken in front of a voting center of Dhaka on the morning
of 9th National Parliamentary Election. It was a chilly misty morning
and i was very happy to vote. But after coming out from the center i
found this old lady sitting on the ground with a vacant look, had no
warm cloth, and looked like she didn't bother for one. and suddenly it
struck me...if the election is not for them then who else?

Today was election day in Belgium. We had to vote for a new local Flemish parliament, and of course for the European parliament.
