Experiencing with my new camera at night. I got a shot that i thought was making a pretty interesting electricity blackout effect.

Mandelbrot water reflexion effect. Created with a custom fractal explorer + Photoshop

Orton Effect: I like the original just fine. This just gives a different perspective of the little guy, softer, yet bolder. The original was nature, this is a little more artistic.

What? You think some Flickr members have too much free time on their hands? Naaaah...

When I saw the Transparent Screens pool I couldn't resist. Here's what you do: 1) Place your camera on a tripod, 2) Remove the monitor (or close your laptop) and snap a picture, 3) Place the monitor (or open the laptop) and take another picture, 4) Open in Photoshop and select the screen area from the second picture, 5) Transfer the selection to the first picture, cut, create a new image, and distort it to make the trapezoidal selection rectangular, 6) Save the resulting image and use it as a Windows wallpaper, 7) Take the picture again taking care to align the screen image with the background (should match if you haven't moved the monitor nor the camera).

Next time I'll avoid using flash, and try to set up a multi-monitor system and maybe even throw in some paper printouts. A cool effect would be to fix focus on the screen so the background is blurry, and then put that blurry background as a wallpaper, so it contrasts with the perfectly focused screen icons (and maybe the Vista sidebar)...

...shouldn't I be working or something?

I took this photo such a long time ago that I almost forgot about it. When I took this I was thinking about the Gursky photo which is now the most expensive photo ever purchased. I was shooting and thinking only about composition in this shot. I really like the simplicity and mood. After shooting this and processing it I really feel I can understand more about Gursky’s work. It’s really hard to come to terms with shooting something so simplistic.

Ground effect is the increased lift and decreased drag that wings generate when they are close to a fixed surface (the water in this case). This brown pelican at Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve drags its tips in the water as it skims the surface of the water effortlessly.

A more than rewarding trip as we spent several hours volunteering to pick up trash along the shoreline with friends, Jan and Frank.

I don't have any good pictures to upload so you get this instead. It's a copper board on which I laid out connections for an electronic circuit. The visible copper was then removed to leave (under the protective black stuff) conductive traces. Eventually the board was stuffed with electronic components and crammed into a box with jacks and knobs and such. Thrilling, eh?

In chaos theory, the butterfly effect is the sensitive dependence on initial conditions in which a small change at one place in a deterministic nonlinear system can result in large differences in a later state. Zzzz...

No, no, no, no...

In reality, the butterfly effect is that overwhelming impulse a photographer feels to capture an image whenever a butterfly is noticed.

Decorative images with electricity effect

The ideal is to find things that have rusted naturally, but that’s not always possible. I decided to try a new rust effect product on some items laying around the house, to see what would happen. As you can see this rust effect product works very well on plastic, wood or even glass. Also possible to paint with it. Have a good fun. Among many silly 'funny' effects in this app, I found this quite usable.

Pho.to Lab is the first 'cloud' app I'm trying - nothing is processed on the phone, everything is sent to a server and returned ready. The downside is, they keep filesizes (i.e. resolutions) smaller, and despite that - even with 3G and HSDPA it's a bit slow(ish). (But with WiFi it's fast like a local app).

So I was looking at a photoshop tutorial and thought I'd give this one a try - it mimicks a Lomo effect (an older soviet camera apparently). Do people prefer the original or the Lomo-fied version?

Alas we prepare to head back to work on this Sunday evening. In addition to getting my shutterbug fix taking the "Schnoodle's View" today, I did get to pull out the 70/200mm Party Lens, as I like to call it, at the Birthday party today at my brother-in-laws. Great time and food with the family. Lots of great shots of the kids there, allowing for some practicing with the bounce flash.

I thought these two shots were worth posting, as they really brought a smile to my face. Really yummy "Cause" and a funny "Effect".

Today something curious happened to me. While I was crossing a car park with the morning sun in my back I saw a circular light surrounding my shadow. I took a picture, because I didn’t believe my eyes. The light followed me crossover the place. At the other side of the car park I did a step into the shadow of a house, where the sunlight couldn’t reach me. The light stopped too and only a half halo was left.
