The annual Retiree Reception was held at 4:00 pm April 25 at the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts on Patterson Street. VLREA invited all teachers at the public schools in Valdosta, Lowndes and Echols counties and educators at VSU, GMC and Wiregrass. The reception is held to honor each of the local public educators who are retiring at the end of the school year or those who have retired during the present school year. The reception for retirees has been held since the early 1990s.

The National Association of Cuban American Educators (NACAE) awarded "Educator of the Year 2012" Dr. Modesto A. Maidique, President Emeritus of Florida International University (FIU), Alva H. Chapman Jr. Eminent Scholar Chair in Leadership, Executive Director of the Center for Leadership and Professor of Management, Faculty of Business Administration, all at FIU. Dr. Maidique was FIU President for 23 years, the first Cuban-American university president in the U.S.
The event also gave the scholarship NACAE "Gastón Fernández de la Torriente" the student Carolina Sanchez

Longtime educator and avid learner. Lots of mutual edfriends. Lives in Wiscaaansin now but travels for work..and was in KC. He lived and worked in KC when Yanks and Royals dueled it out in playoffs. (a few years/decades ago LOL) We had fun talking about the players back then. Also, education and kids, chem, quantum computing/physics, CERN, birding, Mizzou. Crazy awesome.

Over 330 Montessori educators gathered at the University of Hartford on Friday, October 30 for the Montessori Schools of Connecticut Conference, “Freedom and Responsibility,” which explored liberties, limits and the development of self-discipline in the Montessori-prepared environment. Sandra Girlato, the Primary Director of Training of the Foundation for Montessori Education in Toronto, Canada, was the keynote speaker. The event was sponsored by the University of Hartford’s Montessori studies initiative of ENHP’s Institute for Translational Research, Center for Learning and Professional Education. Paige Bray, associate professor, is the Center director. (She is pictured here).
Dr. Bray said, “It was an honor to engage in this state-wide Montessori community event. It created the space to ask important questions of ourselves and discuss the world we are trying to create with, and for, the children we teach."

This event is a friendly competition amongst affiliated educators at the School of Medicine and the Medical Center that benefits a different international charity each year. This academic year, the pageant took place on the evening of February 13th, 2016 (Saturday) in the Sarratt Cinema and benefitted the work of Vanderbilt and Primeros Pasos (www.primerospasos.org/).
