Si è svolta, dal 14 al 16 dicembre, presso il Palazzo del Turismo di Cattolica,
WORLDBOOK, la Prima Edizione della Rassegna Internazionale dell'Editoria, un evento creato dall'Associazione Pegasus per dare visibilità agli autori emergenti tramite la presentazione delle loro opere, una vetrina dove mettere in mostra le proprie idee e condividerle con i potenziali lettori, un contenitore di emozioni.
Le Edizioni Tracce hanno partecipato all'importante manifestazione presentando alcuni titoli del catalogo.
Hanno partecipato all'evento: Gabriella Bottino, Franco Campegiani, Ester Cecere, Valentino Ceneri, Maria Teresa Codovilli, Stefano Costantini, Diana De Caprio, Franca Di Bello, Anna Di Donato, Caterina Guttadauro La Brasca, Claudia Iandolo, Renato Lombardo, Angelo Maria Mischitelli, Nostòs (Margherita Cordova), Paolo Paolacci, Milena Perico, Daniela Quieti, Davide Rondoni, Francesco Paolo Tanzj.
Editors are a British alternative rock band based in Birmingham, who formed in 2002. Previously known as Pilot, The Pride and Snowfield, the band currently consists of Tom Smith (lead vocals, guitar, piano), Russell Leetch (bass guitar, synthesizer, backing vocals), Ed Lay (drums, percussion, backing vocals), Justin Lockey (Lead guitar), and Elliott Williams (Keys, synthesizers, guitars, and backing vocals) .
Editors have so far released two platinum studio albums, and three in total, whilst selling over several million copies between them worldwide. Their debut album The Back Room was released in 2005. It contained the hits "Munich" and "Blood" and the following year received a Mercury Prize nomination.
Their follow-up album An End Has a Start went to number 1 in the UK Album Chart in June 2007 and earned the band a Brit Awards nomination for best British Band. It also spawned another Top 10 hit single, "Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors". The band's third album, In This Light and on This Evening, was released in October 2009 and went straight to number 1 in the UK Album Chart. The band is currently in studio working on their fourth studio album.
Alongside their critical acclaim and strong success in the charts, Editors have consistently enjoyed sold out tours and numerous headlining festival slots. Their brand of dark indie rock is commonly compared to the sound of bands such as Echo & the Bunnymen, Joy Division, Interpol, The Chameleons and U2.

Here's something that's not UTHS-related. The annual Soapbox Derby held in Davenport. By this time in my photo-taking career I'd discovered the power of the camera ( when coupled with a bit of moxy ) could open doors for inside access to events.
I might have still been a teen, but if you introduce yourself as someone who should have press access and you display your cameras there was very little that anybody would do to stop you, seriously. The newspapers didn't issue IDs, possibly an editor might call ahead and say that someone would show up but that contact often wasn't the gatekeeper. The gatekeeper had no authority to challenge anyone and besides, this isn't something that more than a couple people might be doing anyway. Charity events seek publicity to all is fine!
People manning the gates back then may not have known camera gear but they realized what a SLR was and maybe a Nikon or Canon and that they were too expensive to carry several around if you truly did't have business there ( and why would you be there then )? It would be a different story today when half the people have a DSLR, and one looks like another and gatekeepers don't have detailed understanding of the equipment. Also, publications began issuing ID to employees to smooth access and to cut down on mischief.
As I work thru the archive you'll begin to see more local events. If I didn't go there with Lou to hang out I'd go to challenge myself, shooting for a winning shot or two.
Now, looking back from fifty years-on these pix are more nostalgic than captivating. Please spend some time going thru the contact sheets for items of interest. If there's a person, or place or event that I haven't brought forward just let me know and I'll enlarge it.
At the same time, it would be swell if you'd scratch a few memories about the photo to include.

In 1921 , the woman who was to become the powerful editor and publisher of the Washington Times-Herald was traveling to Europe under her married name Eleanor Patterson Gizycka.
“Eleanor Josephine Medill "Cissy" Patterson (November 7, 1884 – July 24, 1948)[was an American journalist and newspaper editor, publisher and owner. Patterson was one of the first women to head a major daily newspaper, the Washington Times-Herald in Washington, D.C..
Elinor Josephine Medill Patterson was born in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Robert and Elinor "Nellie" (Medill) Patterson. She would change the spelling of her first name to "Eleanor" as an adult, but would always be known as "Cissy," the name her brother gave her in childhood…
She was educated at Miss Porter's School in Farmington, Connecticut. When her uncle Robert S. McCormick was named ambassador to Austria-Hungary, she accompanied him and his wife, Cissy's maternal aunt Kate, to Vienna. There she met Count Josef Gizycki and fell in love with him, a romance not interrupted even by her return to America, where she lived in Washington, D.C.. … Count Gizycki came to America and they were married in Washington on April 14, 1904 despite the objections of her family, which later proved well-founded.
A daughter was born to them September 3, 1905, and was named Leonora Felicia (1905–1999). Cissy went with the Count to his home, a huge feudal manor in Russian Poland. Their family life did not go well. According to some accounts, the Count was an inveterate gambler and womanizer, violent with his servants, and eventually violent with Cissy. … She fled with their child, hiding her in a house near London, but the Count pursued her and kidnapped the little Countess, hiding her in an Austrian convent while demanding a million dollars in ransom. Cissy filed for divorce, which took thirteen years to obtain. President William Howard Taft and Czar Nicholas II were personally involved in the 18-month effort to secure the release of Felicia. The Czar ordered the Count to return the child to her mother. Gizycki was imprisoned, and reportedly never contacted Cissy or their daughter.
After her experience abroad, she moved to Lake Forest, Illinois, a Chicago suburb, but she returned to Washington in 1913. In 1920, her brother Joseph finally succumbed to his sister's entreaties and allowed her to write for his New York Daily News, founded the previous year. She also worked for William Randolph Hearst. …
Patterson tried to buy Hearst's two Washington papers, the morning Washington Herald and the evening Washington Times. … Although he had never made money from his Washington papers, he refused to give up the prestige of owning papers in the capital. However, at the urging of his editor Arthur Brisbane, Hearst agreed to make Patterson the papers' editor. She began work on August 1, 1930. Patterson was a hands-on editor who insisted on the best of everything—writing, layout, typographic, graphics, comics, everything. She encouraged society reporting and the women's page and hired many women as reporters including Adela Rogers St. Johns and Martha Blair. In 1936, she was invited to join the American Society of Newspaper Editors.
Patterson made her paper popular with all strata of Washington society and doubled its circulation. She also shifted the papers' editorial stance sharply to the right.
In 1937, Hearst's finances had gotten worse and he agreed to lease the Herald and the Times to Patterson with an option to buy. …Instead, she bought both papers from Hearst on January 28, 1939, and merged them as the Times-Herald.
Along with her brother at the New York Daily News and her cousin at the Chicago Tribune, Patterson was an unyielding conservative. She was an ardent isolationist and opponent of the administration of Franklin D. Roosevelt. In 1942, after the Battle of Midway, the Times-Herald ran a Tribune story that revealed American intelligence was reading the Japanese naval code. Roosevelt, furious, had the Tribune and the Times-Herald indicted for espionage but backed down because of the publicity, charges he was persecuting his enemies, and the likelihood of an acquittal (since the Navy's own censors had twice cleared the story before it was published). During World War II, she and her brother were accused by their enemies of being Nazi sympathizers. Representative Elmer Holland of Pennsylvania on the floor of the United States House of Representatives said the Pattersons "would welcome the victory of Hitler."”

You girls had three things for your final challenge. Your MAC Cosmetics ad, your Cover for Beauty in POSE With Masha, and Your motion editorial. So lets begin with Mei!
Mei-
We Loved your ad! its playfull and endearing. Your face is so soft and shows off the makeup well. i think that your face is so commercial and high fashion at the same time! this is a very good ad.
Sonny- Wow, this is so strong. I love the power and the flirtiness in your face. You look so regal, I would so want to see this as an ad board all over the world!
Lucie-
We had mixed feelings on your ad Lucie. Some of us liked the fact that its very edgy and fresh. but it isnt what you normally expect to see as a Cosmetics ad so we were on the fence. however it would bring the viewer in and it is very enchanting.
Sonny-This is an mediocre photo of you Lucie, it's good but not your best. I don't like how your upper body is like bending towards the camera. It makes the angle look really confusing and we can't see your face as good.
Now we will move on to the Cover try for POSE
Mei-
Masha said you took a while to warm up and in this kind of shoot, time is money! your face looked great though and in the end you pulled through. If this was a cover though, we werent sure if it would pull the reader in.
Sonny-This is the ultimate Mei! Just amazing, the concept fits you perfectly and even with the shadow your face is just popping. I would just die to see this on the POSE Beauty cover. One thing I don't like is how we can't see your left hand. It looks alittle awkward.
Lucie-
We think this is divine. we love this shot! your face is just absolutely stunning and it LOOKS like a Beauty in POSE cover! Everything is just perfect. we cant fault it. it is so engaging!
Sonny- Jawdropping! I find this so amazing and quirky. You've pushed your limits here, and it's a new side we've never seen before.
And now for the Motion Editorial
Mei-
Your face was stunning. you had momments where your face was just wonderfull. the opening seen with you looking across the desert was unbelievable. however, at times you were a little stiff, we would have loved a little more natural movement
Lucie-
Your worked it out. you were engaging and mesmerizing and you versatility really showed through. We saw photographic stills through out the whole film of you.
This is so close. Now we are going to take a vote on who should be BNTM. The Audience votes will be added to ours and thus the winner will be determined.
Masha- I think the girl who is more modern and of the momment and the most versatile, is Lucie.
Bridget- I think Mei has found her self, but maybe she needs a little more time. I also Vote Lucie.
Macie- Mei, your look is so young and different and i think you belong in high fashion. i Vote Mei.
Sonny- Based on these two assignments and their whole body of work I will have to say Mei is the worthy winner. She lost herself a bit during her time here in Morocco but she found herself again. She has the right look for POSE and Chick Model Magnament.
