This Spring, I embarked on a 2.5-week mission to burn my face off and annihilate all my senses. In other words, I had been tapped by my amazing editor at Chatelaine to find the country's top hot sauces, championing small, artisan producers doing amazing jobs in the hot sauce arena.
Little did I know of the community I would encounter, the incredible talents and passionate cooks, hot sauce creators, and fellow chilli lovers.
With the wise advice polled from many pepperheads on the Canadian Hot Sauce & Chilli Pepper Community Facebook group, I was pointed in the direction of nearly a hundred products (including notable producers in the niche community), in addition to the quality products I knew, plus other who reached out after. I tried over 120(!) sauces in total that ranged mainly from hot/super hot to hellfire is tame compared to this gut-twisting heat sauces, with most being actually very delicious.
It was so hard to narrow things down to 10, so I went with 15 producers (even though I had almost 40 bottles that I loved - with multiple favourites by any given producer). At the end of the day, I had to hone in on featuring one per, and the result, not ranked (those numbers are just to mark which description matches which bottle) can be found on pages 14-15 July/August 2022 issue of Chatelaine magazine.

This C47 led the invasion in Normandy France on Jun 6th 1944 She flew as the lead ship for the second wave troop carrier airborne invasion force and dropped troops from the 3rd Battalion, 505th Para Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division. Descending on Drop Zone "O"
Whiskey 7 recently did a round trip flight from Western, NY to Normandy, France to take part in the 70th anniversary of the D day invasion.

Beginning at 4:00 a.m. on 16 July 1942, French police numbering 9,000 started the manhunt. The Police force included gendarmes, gardes mobiles, detectives, patrolmen and cadets; they were divided into small arresting teams of three or four men each, fanning across the city. A few hundred followers of Jacques Doriot volunteered to help, wearing armband with the colours of the fascist French Popular Party (PPF)
the Vélodrome d'Hiver was a large indoor sports arena at the corner of the boulevard de Grenelle and rue Nélaton in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, not far from the Eiffel Tower. It was built by Henri Desgrange, editor of L'Auto, who later organised the Tour de France, as a velodrome (cycle track) when his original track in the nearby Salle des Machines was listed for demolition in 1909 to improve the view of the Eiffel Tower. As well as track cycling, the new building was used for ice hockey, wrestling, boxing, roller-skating, circuses, spectacles and demonstrations. In the 1924 Summer Olympics, several events were held there, including foil fencing, boxing, cycling (track), weightlifting, and wrestling.
8mm and Super 8 film editor purchased new by me in 1974. Took it out of box for probably first time in 20 years today and found the original sales docket from Michaels in Melbourne for $29.50.

I have been quite ill since my last post ! It's a long recovery , a process , I am told ! Many changes & plenty of rest ! I will be back , posting & commenting !
