Last Sunday morning on the way back to the car, the light and mist on Rushup Edge was lovely. I included the photographer to add scale.

After asking if he minded being in my photo we had a good chin wag. You can see Matthew's stream here: Matthew Hillier .

Good to meet you Matthew.

First walk of 2022 - about time.

Set yourself small goals and when you achieve them you feel good!!!!

A short break from zoo shots. This was taken down the street from me with the sun just dropping beneath the trees behind me. Here's the gorillas photo I posted today.

Jump over the black water.

As the sun came up, I was able to catch the light on the edges of the dunes.

We had a walk along Stanage Edge yesterday afternoon. Blue skies above but a tad blustery on the edge.

Late evening sunlight catching the cliff faces of the Millstone Edge quarries, a location popular with rock climbers.

Some of the great rocks to be found on this beach, always great for a longer exposure.

This is from the beach looking towards the village of Southerness and its famous lighthouse in the distance.

Northern 319372 the last still in unbranded Thameslink livery, departs from Edge Hill platform 2 and starts the descent down to Liverpool Lime Street.

I have taken many daylight pictures here but never thought I had captured the mood of this historic location.

* Edge Hill abounds in Railway history, the first terminus in Liverpool was Crown Street and Edge Hill had its first station two hundred metres to the right of here. It quickly became evident that Crown Street was too far removed from the City centre and plans were made to excavate the sandstone tunnels and cuttings down to Lime Street.

The current Edge Hill station built on the 'new' alignment with its two Island platforms dates to 1836.

At Peyto Lake, early fall had already left its mark. Fresh snow clung to the surrounding slopes, while the lake below remained unfrozen, its blue surface calm under an almost sunny sky. The contrast between winter edging in and open water still holding on gave the scene a quiet, in-between feeling.

On this evening it was difficult to take a photo without people getting in to the frame.

One of my favorite photographers is Edward Weston. He had a wonderful ability to show us grace in nature. It could be a bell pepper or a massive dune system- he could find the most graceful curves and capture them in his photographs. Sometimes however you have to throw in a bit of raggedness with that grace, as seen here. Wet sand doesn't drift as well as dry sand, and a mix will give combinations of smooth and jagged edges. A recent snow at Great Sand Dunes had provided such a combination of wet and dry sand, giving us a nice mix of edge textures. (#3)

In the distance are the San Luis Valley and the northeastern edge of the San Juan Mountains.

Frosty walk along Froggatt Edge last week...

One of my many commutes into the Hancock Tower in Boston. Always had a great angle of this building as I entered it every morning.

60013 "Robert Boyle" approaches Edge Hill with a what is likely to be 7F84 1630 Liverpool Bulk Terminal to Fiddlers Ferry. This was 5 years before the Olive Mount chord was built and all traffic to and from the docks had to run round at Edge Hill. The loco is now in storage.

Note the Magpie nest being built in the apex of the OLE stanchion above the loco - this will undoubtedly have attracted the attention of local staff who will dismantle it before any eggs are laid. These and similar nests are the frequent cause of breaker operations.

**ROB CLARK COLLECTION - I have been given Rob's prints & slides after his passing in April 2022 and have started (Jan 2023) to scan the 2,000 plus images - a task that will probably continue into my retirement! This will however be a slow process, as to do them justice they will need a fair amount of tidying and processing as a lot of them have deteriorated over their time in storage.

There will be no order in which they'll be posted but details will be scant as unfortunately notes of the photographs cannot be located. Therefore any gen within the Flickr photting community will be appreciated!

Having run this kitchen knife over my whetstones, it is good and sharp. Perhaps not at the bleeding edge of sharpness but not far off.

I love the snow. I love mountains. I love twilght. I love climbing Cavehill. Put them together and what do you get? You get absolutely frozen during a wonderful twilight as the wind howled off the top of the Antrim Plateau while I was perched at the edge of the cliff, peering over the edge towards the city below.

Oh, and you get this wee photo too.

Myiarchus cephalotes

(Pale-edged flycatcher / Atrapamoscas montañero)

Distributed throughout subtropical montane forest in the Andes and northern Venezuela, the Pale-edged Flycatcher is a fairly typical member of the genus Myiarchus.

This species is typically a bird of humid forests and is one of the few species of Myiarchus that is restricted entirely to humid montane forest.
