Eclipse 2017 in Tn

SEE THE LAST TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE MOON UNTIL 2014

This animation simulates the total lunar eclipse of Dec 10, 2011.

The animation depicts the Moon passing into and through the outlined shadow of the Earth, with the "camera" following the Moon as it moves against the background stars and through the shadow. It is when the Moon enters the inner ring — the umbra — that you see a noticeable darkening appear on the edge of the Full Moon, a darkening that grows to engulf the Moon until it is completely within the umbra and totality begins. Note the sky gets brighter with dawn light beginning about the time totality begins and is quite bright by the end of totality.

And note how the Moon sets in partial eclipse.

Animation created with Starry Night Pro™ software.

Here are more details of this eclipse.

WHAT

During a total lunar eclipse, the Full Moon passes through the shadow of the Earth and the entire Moon turns deep red — in this case for 51 minutes.

WHEN

On December 10 the partial phase of the eclipse begins at 5:45 a.m. That’s when the Moon begins to enter Earth’s shadow and a dark bite appears on the Full Moon.

Over the next 81 minutes more of the Moon is engulfed in our shadow, until 7:06 a.m. when the Moon is entirely within Earth’s shadow and the total eclipse begins.

The total eclipse lasts until 7:57 a.m. when the Moon appears just above the northwest horizon, about to set. The sky will be so bright that the dark eclipsed Moon may be difficult to see as the Moon begins to emerge from our shadow.

From Calgary, the Moon sets at 8:34 a.m., with the partial eclipse in progress — the Moon will appear about half eclipsed as it sets.

Partial Eclipse begins5:45 a.m. MST

Total Eclipse begins 7:06 a.m. MST

Mid-Eclipse 7:31 a.m. MST

Total Eclipse ends 7:57 a.m. MST (Moon only 4 degrees above horizon)

Moon sets and Sun rises8:34 a.m. MST (with partial eclipse in progress)

WHERE

When the total eclipse begins the Moon will be low in the northwest, setting into a sky brightening in the pre-dawn twilight. This will be the best time to see the total eclipse from Alberta—around 7:06 a.m. Look northwest to see the red Moon.

HOW TO VIEW

Lunar eclipses are perfectly safe to look at with the unaided eye or any optical aid. Binoculars will provide the best view. The best viewing location will be from a rural site with an unobstructed view to the northwest.

Due to its urban location and Tom Campbell Hill to the northwest, no public observing event is planned at TELUS Spark the morning of the eclipse, December 10.

Lunar Eclipse December 2010, almost fully eclipsed now, seeing the red glow. The noise is due to the high ISO (1600) I'm taking the tripod out next time and taking some longer exposures.

This was a lunar eclipse in December of 2010.

Took it while on a trip to Santa Fe

So much light caused reflections within the camera generating the duplicate image. Taken May 1994 near Detroit MI.

Clouds prevented fully enjoying today's eclipse. Gran Canaria, Canary Islands.

Took this during the solar eclipse on May 20. :D

Nikon E Series 70-210.

In normal nights and when moon is full, it's practically impossible to have the moon and stars in a single photo. With the eclipse happened yesterday, moon and stars were all in the same dynamic range sensible by the camera. Add to it the disappearance of the corona from the view which helped me catch this photo (single raw file).

See the very small dot just to the right of the moon perimeter ... that's a star!

Watching the eclipse at the Arboretum at Penn State. August 21, 2017.

You’ll just have to take my word for the effect – it distinctly darkened, birds were behaving oddly, etc., see description of next photo.

Mound Prairie Scientific and Natural Area, Houston County, Minnesota. August 21, 2017, eclipse day.

September's eclipse of the Sun is documented in the 68 frames of this timelapse composite. Starting at 1pm local time a frame every 4 minutes follow's the progress of the New Moon across the solar disk. Taken near the centerline of the narrow eclipse path, the series of exposures ends with a golden sunset. Balanced rock cairns in the foreground line a beach on the southern side of Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean, near the village of Etang-Salé. Of course, the close balance in apparent size creates drama in eclipses of the Sun by the Moon as seen from planet Earth. In an annular eclipse, the Moon's silhouette is just small enough to show the solar disk as a narrow ring-of-fire at maximum eclipse phase. via NASA ift.tt/2cjUQNE

'Eclipse', by Chris Wood, a talented artist in glass and light, seen when displayed swivelling in Annesdale, Ely last year. [52.393793, 0.267469]

The piece is made of acrylic dichroic material, developed by NASA, which both reflects the light and changes its colours as it passes through.

The full Moon of September 27/28 2015 was a ‘Supermoon’ – the moon was closest to the earth, with the reddish tint of the earth's shadow giving it a 'blood moon' appearance. There was also the very rare total eclipse of the moon, when the full moon passed through the darkest part of earth's shadow (the umbra), and such an event will not happen again until October 8, 2033.

Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer

Pages 689

Okay, let me start off by saying, this is one long complicated series. If you have not read the previous 2 books of the Twilight series, please read no further, this review may contain spoilers.

This is a long book, and Stephenie Meyer paints a vivid picture in all of her books. She has the art to keep you captured and up long into the night with her facinating stories.

Well, our dear friend Edward Cullens went on a hiadus for a few months and now he's back in the picture. Problem is, Vampires and wearwolves go together like... Toothpaste and orange juice (ha ha, now your gonna try it!). Jacob became a crucial part of Bella's life in New Moon, and now that Edward is back, this really breaks his heart. There's also a new breed of vampires attacking the north, and Alice can't get the visions clear. The Vamps and Wolves must work toghether to tame this threat.

Does the Voultri know that Bella's not a vampire yet? And why haven't they come to help? Will Charlie ever eccept Edward into his family? Will Jacob find rest after all his tourmoil?

I personally found myself captivated yet again. I love Stephenie's story telling abilities. I've heard several people complain that "Thats not what a vampire should be." Well my answer is... "how would you know?" The vampires of these books may not resemble the mosters of Nosferatu or Dracula, and they are born from legends and people's imagination. (My personal favorite Vampire is 'Count Duckula'). I also didn't like the way Bella just forgot what Edward did to her and toss Jacob aside like a used coffee cup. She should have really laid into him for at least the first part of the book, but thats just me being mean.

Overall, a good read and good for people looking to escape into the life of fantasy.
