Taking It Easy - After observing these Golden Eagles for several years, I noticed that they have 2 types of hunting passes: the serious quick one, and a relaxed "half-***ed" attempt. It's actually quite amusing watching them do the latter as I don't quite understand the purpose of this behavior. Perhaps it is a way to save energy - they begin their descent realize the prey opportunity isn't there and just continue on.

Here the male eagle of the pair that I have observed for many years does a lazy pass, but provided me a chance to test out my 500 f/4. I'm still learning how to shoot BIF with this lens, but when I am able to get the framing and focus, the images do turn out significantly crisper and cleaner than the 200-500 f/5.6.

Happy World Wildlife Day! I hope I can photograph this pair next season if they return yet again.

I hold her coffee as we hug for the first time today (I don't drink the stuff). She snuggles up close, and everything is right in our world. She's a Texas girl, and naturally, a Cowboys fan. But look what she wears, just for me. She's so easy to love.

It's always a little bit risky to wake up in order to catch a sunrise when the sky is covered, especially when you have to walk/dirve an hour before reaching a good spot. However, it can worth the risk because a cloudy sunrise is generaly much more dramatic than a perfect clear one.

That's what I thought this morning (and to be honest, I think it's always worthy to wake up ;) ). I drove to the beautiful Creux-du-Van (one of my favorite place for sunrise). Unfortunatly, there was alreay a full stuffed guy (with 5Dm3, lee filters everywhere, and so one) where I planed to be ... Moreover, the sky was too cloudy and even if the sunrise was not that bad, the light itself was quite cold.

I was kind of discouraged when suddenly, I saw this young ibex lying down in the rocks : I could not believe my eyes at the first place: it was so close ! I removed my wide-angle and took a zoom very slowly in order not to frithend it. Then, I realised that I could have danced a rain dance (which could have succeeded !), it would not moved an ear. It was not wild at all and let me take as much pictures as I wanted as he wandered and ate grass here and there. So that's what I did for more than an hour. (I guess it was a kind of "Wildlife Photography for Dummies" session)

It's very impressive to see how ibex do not fear height and walk on the steep rocks as if they were flat.

So yes, it was worth waking up, but not for the reasons I expected, which is even better.

This is another post of this wily little character from the reeds. Before the surgery, I would never have seen him stuck back in the reeds and it was only because he was heavy into his mating calls that I was able to locate and capture. That desire to mate likely had a lot to do with him sticking around while I floundered around in the canoe taking photos. He was EXTREMELY cooperative. Least Bittern in the reeds on the south bank of Armand Bayou.

I attempted to rely to some people about the challenge of taking photos with my vision problems. If the focus point in the camera didn’t light up, I didn’t take the photo. There were times when I returned home with some very poor results. I never knew how sharp the photos were until after the surgery and am now seeing details that I missed for quite some time. It’s no longer a problem as I can see the clarity now.

A bit more of laugh if anyone wants to read. I thought that the TV that Georgia used was fading out and so went out this past Mother’s Day and surprised her with a newer larger and sharper TV. I am sure that she was left scratching her head as why I replaced a perfectly good TV. I now know that the problems were all attributed to my problems with the cataracts. It happens so gradually that you don’t know it’s happening.

I make no guarantees about taking better photos, but at least I’ll be able to locate the animal from a great distance. I hope it’s a real eye opener when I return to the bayou and taking photos. Time will tell.

I have a problem that's been nagging at me for almost a year now. This location, this one specific waterfall in Silver Falls and how much it cheats the algorithm. Every single photo I've taken here has gotten mass publicity regardless of the quality, (including my first explored shot, which I stand by my statement of it being one of my worst shots, but it has yet to be surpassed statistically here). This one specific location is jsut eaten up and it became evident real quickly how little effort I actually needed to do. So I quickly had a growing resentment for this site cause I wanted something to be just as if not more successful another way (another reason to keep pumping out Japan shots). It's almost guaranteed money and it feels extremely cheap.

So why you may ask, did I come out here in 2026? One of my buddy's associates just got his first camera and lens used and knew of our passion with photography and wanted to be taught. But having good equipment can only get you so far without a beautiful location to use it at. I initially didn't want to go here, but on second thought, this would be a very easy start. It's a clear subject and you could shoot it from anywhere in this quarry, and whatever photo we walked away with would do well regardless.

I shot from the overhead view, from the alcove behind the fall but not the bridge at the bottom, so that's this shot, and I think the only one I'm going to end up using from this specific venture. I kept the light on the silvery fall itself (pun intended) and dimmed a bunch of other spots while letting it keep its clarity and green tint. Let's see if the curse of south falls holds true and I get like 40-50 likes for it despite how simple it is.

The Victoria plum is a type of English plum. It has a yellow flesh with a red or mottled skin. This plum is a cultivar of the egg plum group (Prunus domestica ssp. intermedia).

The fruit is oval or ovate in shape. The ground colour is greenish yellow, mostly covered with purple. The stone is semi-clinging and does not come off completely from the flesh but the skin is easy to pull off. The flesh is quite rough, light yellow and in good development and full maturity is sweet. Maturation time is mid-to-late September (in some places). It is a good table and household fruit.

The tree is quite hardy and grows strongly but is not very large. The bloom is medium-early and self-fertile. The plant itself is rarely attacked by diseases, but the fruit is vulnerable to mold. Fruits must be thinned heavily for the fruits to reach full development. The trees rarely get old due to their high fruit production.

The name "Victoria" comes from Queen Victoria (1819–1901). A story that the variety was first discovered in a garden in Alderton, Suffolk.

It was introduced commercially in Sweden in 1844 by a nursery owner, Denyer, under the name of Denyer's Victoria. This strain quickly became very popular in Sweden in the late 19th century.

The Victoria plum contains the anthocyanin chrysanthemin.
