It is still pretty cold and wet and the snow didn't melt until around 11:00 am on the day this was taken, so it seems like it is still winter. But if you look carefully, the trees and bushes are starting to bud and the birds are starting to get more plentiful and active. Here is a Spotted Towhee sitting on a budding bush of some sort. There was even a bit of sun and blue sky. HEoM

The first iris of the year blooming in my backyard. Submission for this week's Flickr Friday theme, "Early Spring Signs."
Shot in natural light. The sun was positioned just so that the iris was illuminated and the white wall behind it was in shadow. It was the perfect opportunity to create a dramatic chiaroscuro effect. Shot with Fujifilm XPro2 and 60mm f2.4 macro lens in Classic Chrome, grain setting: strong.

Why is spring my favorite season? Because of what it represents in our lives! With spring comes hope: hope of new life and a new creation! Each spring we watch the flowers bloom, the dormant grass turn green, the trees bud, flower, and come back to life! We see the sun start to shine more and start to pull people out of their shells of homes and into the life that is blooming all around them! For a macro enthusiast like myself, this season is heaven on earth.

Durante esta semana loca, cada día publicaré una foto "en las manos", presentando una de las cosas que he echado (mucho) de menos durante el invierno y que vuelvo a encontrar con alivio y alegría ahora que se deja entrever la primavera por llegar.
Durante el invierno, añoro el verde de las hojas y de la hierba, y los colores de las flores. Cada semana me compro flores para sobrevivir a la oscuridad, pero son flores cortadas, no es lo mismo. Así que en cuanto aparecen signales de la primavera por llegar, soy de las primeras clientes en las jardinerías y me cogen unas ganas tremendas de plantar, cuidar mi jardín, verlo florecer...

Here it is February, and Early Spring must have started since this performer was out on the streets in Boston, the Open Produce Market is in full swing, and no one is bundled up with a jacket.

I am amazed at how quickly my hyacinth bulb has grown and also love the intertwining blues and greens as it stretches to the sky. Such a picture of hope to me.

Spring is still in its very early stage up here in Finland. However, there have been some warm days already and the ice has begun to melt here and there. The photo was taken from the inside of an ice cave at noon last Friday, Feb 24th in Emäsalo, Porvoo, Finland.
