2023 Photo 69/296: Redbud trees at the edges of our woods are coming in very slowly. Soon they'll be dazzling; stay tuned. c.2023 John M. Hudson | jmhudson1.com
Does that sound strange? Well, let me tell you, it was indeed a strange sight to encounter. In this field, there were scores of dead grasshoppers clinging to these slender stalks. I was simply amazed. When I saw this pair, it really struck a chord. For some reason, it made me think of lost love. You know, losing a lover, the loss of a friendship, the loss of self-love. I'm sure that you catch my drift. Anyway, I found this to be very sad and yet comforting at the same time. After all, they died in each other's arms.

27th March 2022 :
Had to nip to the nearest supermarket this morning and hoping I'd find something to photo took my camera with me.
The oyster van had just opened as I came out and someone was ready to get some. The van comes every Sunday during the oyster season and is very popular.
Sadly not for us, they are well over our everyday budget. :(
Not online, Graham isn't very well. :(

The lesser yellowlegs is a medium-sized shorebird. It breeds in the boreal forest region of North America.
They migrate to the Gulf coast of the United States, the Caribbean, and south to South America. This species is a regular vagrant to western Europe; in Great Britain about five birds arrive each year, mostly between August and October, with the occasional individual overwintering. Their breeding habitat is clearings near ponds in the boreal forest region from Alaska to Quebec. (Wikipedia)

While returning from the Salton Sea birding area after the birding festival, I came across one of the most colorful sunsets I have seen this year. I was driving along what looked like endless blocks of farmlands when the sky started to take on color. I desperately searched the flat landscape for any landmark that I could use in my composition, and finally, I saw a tree. With nothing else for miles, I decided to take my chances and got off the main road, trying to find a way to get close. After a bit of searching, I did manage to get close.
Thankfully, the sunset colors lasted for a good bit, and I had the opportunity to load my Fuji Velvia 50 onto my Bronica SQ 6x6. I loved how great the Velvia worked in this scenario, easily matching or exceeding my Nikon Z9 for color rendition. In fact, when I compared it with the Z9 later, it looked like Velvia rendered the scene a lot warmer than the Z9 did.
Each of us is born with the potential for the unfolding of our true self.

The pears are all lined up for the party! Are you?
One of my entries for the photo contest i've been working on since weeks. In my language we mostly call the lightbulbs a different name : "lightpeach" Using this as a starting point i thought it would be a pretty funny idea to line them up next to each other and take a picture! :)
From deepskycorner: "The planetary nebula Abell 39 was discovered in 1955 by the American astronomer George Ogden Abell on the photo plates of the «Palomar Observatory Sky Survey» (POSS).
Abell 39 shows an almost perfect spherical bubble like a picture book for a planetary nebula. The western edge is about 50% brighter than the eastern. The central star is also not exactly in the center, but offset by about 2". It seems that this is due to a slightly asymmetrical ejection of matter and not an interaction with interstellar matter. It is estimated that the central star and the ejected material each have 0.6 solar masses."

A fine rocky peak that resides close to the imposing Stuc a' Chroin. In no way does it cower to it's larger neighbour, mind you. An intriguing twisty/turny ridge connects the two & makes for an entertaining traverse.
The ongoing lack of snow was very apparent yesterday. A few of the higher ridge-lines still retain bits & pieces, but the general appearance of the Southern Highlands right now is more akin to autumn or early spring. There's no sign of any imminent change to this worrying pattern.
Each minute out there was so, so, so cold, even without the wind itself, but it was fun as always.
This time I really enjoyed the hiking part, since it was making me just a little bit warmer.
Also, kind of a point and shoot moment, with really few pictures taken. I had to really decide if it was worth it to take my hands out from my pockets to take a picture.
Hopefully this is just the beginning of a cool winter series.
19th July 2020:
Back at the beginning of February 2018, I made a jam sponge, but so many of you said that sadly you only had spinach ones. So while Graham had 40 winks this afternoon I found the kitchen and made a spinach sponge with a very thick layer of spinach marzipan, because I love it.
If you don't remember or never saw the jam sponge you can see it here : www.flickr.com/photos/44506883@N04/25153485947/in/album-7...

The large 'coin' at the back was in our Christmas box from my sister, it's huge. The others are either from last year and or two years ago. I found them in the box I keep my external hard drive in - no don't ask!
Put them all together and got a photo I liked and then painted out the background using PhotoScape. A bit fiddly, but worthwhile, or I think so.
I've just measured it: It's 10 cm in diameter - about 4 ins.

18th October 2020:
Well it had to happen sooner or later, the Sunday lunch photo that is!
Although I have to say that my personal chef did an excellent job today. Roast chicken, potato wedges and an extremely tasty mixed veg stir fry. A new one to us, with courgettes, beans, round carrots (which are fun) along with sweet corn and red and yellow peppers.
He did over do the potato wedges a bit, but they were good!!

Lyrics :
Just say that I'm The one who
You will live and breathe for
And tiny buds will bloom, then
We would grow to love those
Sometimes our troubled world will
Come tumbling down
I still have you
We're going through
When all the winds have blown
You'll never feel a thing cause
Love has no special way of
Making bells to ring, so
Let's just move on to love and
We'll make up our minds
We're going through
There's me and you
Smile, we have each other
Sometimes I don't know where you go
But love has made us one
Come on smile, we have each other
If you're for me, we'll never be alone
Although no wealth is ours, we
Never feel so bad cause
We only miss the things that
Gave us what we have, so
If there is anything I can do for you
The way is made
The price is paid
Smile, we have each other
Sometimes I don't know where you go
But love has made us one
Come on smile, we have each other
If you're for me, we'll never be alone
