Exciting time of year, late spring but will soon be here.

Yesterday was an exciting day on our block. This owl roosted for at least 12 hours in one of the big elms that line the street. My attention was drawn in that direction by the morning crows, who were quite vocal about the situation. So with coffee cup in hand I walked down a couple of houses to see what all the commotion was about.

The crows kept watch and remained vocal for the entire rest of the day, sometimes joined by raucous jays and buzzing hummingbirds. Through it all the owl remained stoic, zen-like. But I don't think it had a very restful roost, especially too with a lot of human gawkers. He (or she) was perched relatively low.

I shot with my digital SLR for the first time in about 3 months. Part of the reason being my lenses are having a difficult time communicating with the body. But I have a 70-300 zoom and wanted to get close. I also shot it on film with Tri-X and my 300mm fixed telephoto, which I had not used in decades. I'm not hopeful for sharpness there either, since the thing is heavy AF.

Hey! Exciting time of the year. While spring flowers are just starting to emerge, the Moths are beginning to appear on my moth sheet.

(I know, everybody doesn't get excited about seeing 'em. And I cheated, these are from last year.)

Mountain biking Cotopaxi was easily the most scenic, exciting bike ride of my life. And one of my favorite day trips, ever.

Lenght: 40 km/24,85 miles.

1,277 meters (4,189 ft) above sea level to the summit of the volcano.

****

At 07:00 AM we left Quito and after driving south for 1 and a half hours on the Pan-American highway we reached the park entrance of Cotopaxi National Park. We drove through pine forest and soon reached the Visitors’ center of the park. After visiting the Center we continued the ascent in our 4-wheel drive vehicle until we reached the highest point of the tour, 4.500 meters/15.000 feet. The view from this point is stunning and on a clear day we are able to see 8 volcanoes. Not our day.

We then put on helmets, gloves and protective pads and the bike adventure on the world’s highest active volcano could begin. The first 8 km took us down 700 m on dirt roads through volcanic ash and tundra landscape. At 3.800 m. we actually had to do some pedalling while we headed down another 8 km between volcanic rocks and wild horses to our lunch spot by an Inca ruin at 3.700 m. We saw some condors and caracaras. We put the bikes back on the jeep and head for the lake of Limpiopungo at 3.800 m where we started the 16 km downhill biking on dirt and paved roads through pine forest. After this the bike adventure was over for now and around 16h00 we were back in Quito.

This is the standard itinerary that they always try to respect. Please keep in mind that due to the nature of this tour we sometimes have to be flexible because of weather conditions, or biking skills of other participants.

Days: 1 Day

Location: Cotopaxi

Lenght: 31 km/19 miles

Max. Altitude: 4.500 meters/15.000 feet

Min. Altitude: 3.200 meters/11.300 feet

Difficulty Level: Family Advenure Moderate

I cannot forget the 4.5 magnitude quake in Quito -

10 km (32,808 ft) far from the epicenter at 3:56.

I was sleeping in my hotel in Quito and everything started shaking in my first night.

2019 has been a very exciting and (still) busy year for │T│L│C│. Time to look back and to say thank you.

Our biggest project this year involved the introduction of Animesh. We look back at 17 new releases (of which 11 were Animesh), excluding gifts.

Of course, we could have never done this without the help and support of:

>> Our amazing Blogger team: Thank you so much for all your beautiful posts and for promoting our brand! Hugs!

>> Events, showcasing our new releases: a big 'Thank You' to the owners of The Cosmopolitan 'bi-weekly' event - the creators of Bloom, Salem & Tannenbaum, Prism Events, MadPeas events, Japonica events, Flourish Sales Studio, and the 6Republic event.

>> Coverage by Seraphim, SL's premiere sales and events blog.

>> Flickr contacts who made us smile with posts and comments: Mr. Scott Silverdale, Ms. Karole Batista, Mr. Ian Dark, and many more.

>>...and last but not least, our valued Customers: we are so very proud and thankful for your trust and support! Without you we couldn't do what we love most!

As mentioned above we are still busy and not quite ready to hibernate yet :) We are in the process of updating our store, and to give │T│L│C│ a fresh new look in 2020. We will keep you posted :)

Have a beautiful festive season Everyone! Relax and have a good time. See you in the New Year!

Hugs,

It's been an exciting few days for photography, the weather is getting a lot better, the super moon came, and hopefully every one got to see it. I have been shooting as much as I can, after all when the sun is out in the Pacific Northwest you have to take advantage. This shot was taken this morning from the Hamilton lookout in West Seattle, it was a beautifully calm. warm morning. I love days like this, it makes waking up and being out of the door at 4:30 in the morning that much easier. I have been away from the computer for the last few days so I will be catching up with everyone soon. Have a great week all

It is always exciting to take fog photos. On the Benkelloch - my local mountain, the fog was slowly clearing and the sun broke through more and more. I therefore went deeper into the valley, where there was even more fog - it quickly dissolved. This picture was created on the border where fog and sun came together.

Exciting to get in on the action. The neighborhood fox has been visible the last two days.

for this young bull elephant (loxodonta africana) the atmosphere of the sunset must have been really exciting....

Unlike us, nature has no malice or shame. Among other things there is no relationship between this physical state and what we can think.

the young elephant is simply happy!

This has to be one of the weirdest winters I have ever seen up here. We've had a major earthquake, followed by thousands of aftershocks, (which are still taking place in 2019.) Hurricane force winds have hit areas of our state, and old man winter, that first withheld snowfall - followed up that period with major snowfalls in Anchorage and surrounding areas. If that wasn't exciting enough; temperatures have been well above normal, causing rain to turn roads into skating rinks. Tomorrow the temperatures will begin to drop to minus 20 degrees Fahrenheit in my little corner of Alaska's boreal forest. You'll find me comfortably settled by our cozy woodstove, just waiting to see what mother nature intends to send our way next.

**(In this image I have tried to depict what winter has been like so far. This morning the sunrise was quite pretty.)

an exciting drive home in another snowstorm, but as I write this it has turned to rain, I think we've all had enough snow here in Lotusland :)

I don't just find old optical products exciting, other types of old glass fascinate me too. I was able to salvage this bottle at a local flea market in the basement of an old villa and buy it for the obligatory price of 1 euro. It is a bottle of "Danziger Goldwasser" from the v. Goetzen company from Danzig in former East Prussia. The company existed until the 1920s. The bottle probably dates back to the turn of the century. What's special is that there is still a small sip of liqueur and the added gold leaf in it. The original cork still seals the bottle, but must have broken off ages ago. This piece of history now has a place of honor in our bar. Panasonic DC-S5+ Porst 55mm f1.2, aperture f2.0.

Mountain biking is an exciting outdoor sport that involves riding bicycles off-road, usually on rough terrain such as dirt trails, forests, and mountains. It requires strength, balance, and good control of the bike.

This galaxy has a far more exciting and futuristic classification than most — it hosts a megamaser. Megamasers are intensely bright, around 100 million times brighter than the masers found in galaxies like the Milky Way. The entire galaxy essentially acts as an astronomical laser that beams out microwave emission rather than visible light (hence the ‘m’ replacing the ‘l’).

A megamaser is a process that involves some components within the galaxy (like gas) that is in the right physical condition to cause the amplification of light (in this case, microwaves). But there are other parts of the galaxy (like stars for example) that aren’t part of the maser process.

This megamaser galaxy is named IRAS 16399-0937 and is located over 370 million light-years from Earth. This NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope image belies the galaxy’s energetic nature, instead painting it as a beautiful and serene cosmic rosebud. The image comprises observations captured across various wavelengths by two of Hubble’s instruments: the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS), and the Near Infrared Camera and Multi-Object Spectrometer (NICMOS).

NICMOS’s superb sensitivity, resolution, and field of view gave astronomers the unique opportunity to observe the structure of IRAS 16399-0937 in detail. They found it hosts a double nucleus — the galaxy’s core is thought to be formed of two separate cores in the process of merging. The two components, named IRAS 16399N and IRAS 16399S for the northern and southern parts respectively, sit over 11,000 light-years apart. However, they are both buried deep within the same swirl of cosmic gas and dust and are interacting, giving the galaxy its peculiar structure.

The nuclei are very different. IRAS 16399S appears to be a starburst region, where new stars are forming at an incredible rate. IRAS 16399N, however, is something known as a LINER nucleus (Low Ionization Nuclear Emission Region), which is a region whose emission mostly stems from weakly-ionized or neutral atoms of particular gases. The northern nucleus also hosts a black hole with some 100 million times the mass of the sun!

The Linnets have arrived ! Two males have appeared in the garden. This heralds for me the beginning of another exciting year of birds, bugs and beasties.

Checked out the Eagles in the Annapolis Valley this morning. It's always exciting to see these magnificent birds.

That amazing ,exciting place is in Tatra Mountains.

To find this you must go first to Kościeliska Valley

and next turn to Cracow's Gorge...And in the end

of that Gorge is hiding entrance to Dragon Cave...

Adults and children looove that place...very exciting trip...:-)))

A very exciting find for me this evening at Dunlop Millennium Woodland Nature Park was the biggest sawfly larva I've even seen. This `monster' was about 4.5cm long, very cute, and very pretty. It was wandering about on a silver birch tree trunk. See previous uploads for other views.

I'm was fairly sure I had the ID correct, but was happily corrected (on my previous upload) by JJ. Thank you, JJ. It does indeed seem to be a birch sawfly larva (not a large alder sawfly larva as I had originally IDd it as).

See my previous upload for alternative views---I was quite fascinated by the `extra dangly leg' structures down the sides, like sleeves with no legs in them :D

Not an exciting image to look at but please read on. The local auction house often has camera stuff, but the images in their brochures are awful. On this occasion I spotted something in an out of focus picture of a box of assorted items, described as old cameras and binoculars. A £10 online bid and I won. I don't think anyone spotted what I saw after I enhanced the image. When I got the box home, there was as suspected a Kodak Retina. Condition fantastic for its age, with its leather case looking almost pristine. Tied to the strap this thick, red paper tag. Already suspecting the Retina was a type 141, I decided to search on Derby Airport and the date on the tag first. Derby Airport had an official opening on the 17th June 1939. The Retina did prove to be a type 141 made between 1937 and 1939. I still wonder what happened next to someone already a qualified pilot, in that summer of 1939, with such ominous clouds gathering over Europe. The camera must have been used after this date judging by the old roll of possibly seventies Kodak film that was in it, but that came back blank from processing. The camera does all function fully though and is simply a joy to use so far. It is a thing of great beauty, but so is the little paper tag that was tied to the case. I have just taken a roll of HP5 out of the camera from its first shoot in a very long time and I hope to process that soon. The camera, case and the tag feel like a little piece of history; if only it were possible to know who had owned it and what became of them after those last two months before the world changed. I'll treasure this thing. Thanks for reading. Scene was just under three inches across including the part of the camera.

On a beautiful warm Wednesday evening I cycled over to the Millennium dome as I still like to call it or present title the 02 arena on Greenwich peninsula along the Thames river path from Woolwich.

The largest concert venue in the UK was certainly different & quieter to the last time I was here for obvious reasons!

It has never been my favourite London music venue as I prefer the sound, exciting atmosphere & slope of Brixton academy. The perfect size, funny memories & acoustics of London forum & the beautiful intimacy of Union chapel.

But it holds a special place in my heart as it reminds me of my dear departed mum who visited here with her friends when it opened back in 2000 & I remember her so happy about telling me what a fantastic day she had, showing me photos & momentos she had bought....Joyful memories :0)

Nights in Tombstone can be exciting. Let me paint you a picture.

It’s 12am - my alarm goes off and I wake up in a tent in complete darkness. Two hours of sleep in. I’m exhausted from a day of walking, but I’m also curious and excited. I pull back the tent fly, and peek out to be greeted by dancing streams of green overhead. All feelings of tiredness evaporate in a second and my next moves become calculated. “What’s the quickest way to put myself together, get out of this tent, and into the night?” I fumble with my clothes and jacket, trying to gage the temperature - I don’t know how long I’ll be up or where I’ll be, but I want to stay warm after getting out of that wonderful sleeping bag. I get out of the tent and stand up - I can really assess the northern lights. Now comes decision time - where to shoot? "Did I plan a spot earlier in the day? What direction has the best light? Do I know any views that look that direction? How far is that river again? I don’t think it’s that far. I’m going for it."

At night? It was that far.

When I eventually got back to the tent, I was greeted by my hiking partner (Dean) getting dressed. Me - “Where were you headed?” Dean - “To look for you! You’ve been gone for hours and you didn’t tell me where you were going - it’s 3:30am!” Crap. I’m going to owe him a beer for being a bad hiking partner.

Anyway, this image was created from exhaustion, snap decision making, and poor communication. As is tradition when the excitement of the northern lights catches you half asleep. In the end I was happy with how it turned out!

Taken with a Canon 5DIV and a Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 from 2 exposures - one for the sky, one for the foreground.

How exciting to be able to get two really great life birds this month!! I saw the report for an Emperor Goose in Pacifica this morning so we headed over. It was somewhat distant but so happy to get to see this beautifully striking goose!

On the way back to the car, we passed an NBC news crew walking on the path that had come out to do a story on this goose. The reporter asked me if she could interview me, but I declined. I saw the news at 5 and they had a short clip but no interviews. It was a good reprieve to go see the goose and great to see something positive reported on the news instead of the doom and gloom we have all been experiencing.

I can't quite believe it but my storm at Porthcawl image has won me a place being shortlisted in the British Photography Awards too! Absolutely mind blown right now!

Now its all down to the public vote so I need to ask a huge favour of all of you.... please click here and vote for me in the Landscape section if you would be so kind? It literally takes 2 seconds!

Such exciting news! I entered two series in this year's Prix de la Photographie Paris and they both won medals. The first is a series of images from Antarctica called the The Colour of Ice, which won a Gold medal in Fine Art/Landscape (Non-professional). The second is a series of images from North Dakota and Manitoba called Winter Fields which won a Bronze medal in the Nature/Seasons (Non-professional) category. I'm beyond thrilled! Congratulations to all the winners - the images are superb!

Thank you to all of you, too. I first started posting my pictures on Flickr over 10 years ago and the support and friends I've found on here has been amazing. Thank you for being such a great community in which to share photographs.

These were made by my good friend and I helped pick out the designs! They are really awesome animated gauges for the Swallow XL ears. You can find them In The Little Darkness booth at the Darkness event!
