A portrait of a pink tulip in our garden. We do not have many tulips in our garden, but just uderneath our kitchen window there is a group of pink tulips planted in front of a chaenomeles on a north facing wall.

The tulip is a Eurasian and North African genus of perennial, bulbous plants in the lily family. It is a herbaceous herb with showy flowers, of which around 75 wild species are currently accepted.

The generally cup or star-shaped tulip flower has three petals and three sepals, which are often termed tepals because they are nearly identical. These six tepals are often marked on the interior surface near the bases with darker colorings. Tulip flowers come in a wide variety of colors, except pure blue (several tulips with "blue" in the name have a faint violet hue).

The flowers have six distinct, basifixed stamens with filaments shorter than the tepals. Each stigma has three distinct lobes, and the ovaries are superior, with three chambers. The tulip's seed is a capsule with a leathery covering and an ellipsoid to globe shape. Each capsule contains numerous flat, disc-shaped seeds in two rows per chamber.

Except perhaps a cup of tea in a lovely pink Starbucks mug :)

These mugs are very special to me, I got them a few years back for my birthday from some friends. My friends had these, the husband had bought them some years earlier when he was living abroad and I had always admired them (they had them in purple). When he went to London on a work trip he searched high and low for them, cruising the entire town, because they were apparantly starting to go out of production. So now you can understand why I value them so extra much - not only are they pink and cute, my friends went to so much trouble to find them for me :)

Saw this beauty in Pittsford Village this summer. I see the car like once a week as its the owner's daily driver when the weather is nice.

☑ Her pain knows no bounds, all to safeguard her Single Rights

What she offers is the essence of a romantic relationship, without granting the customary rights and privileges that accompany partnership.

In essence, she desires the role of a girlfriend, but without extending the benefits typically associated with couples and their advantages.

Her unyielding commitment to preserving all her rights, irrespective of the depth of her love or the seriousness of the partnership or marriage, means she can offer her lovers everything except the rights of a couple.

These self-imposed guidelines and regulations enable her to maintain her independence while remaining single, all without succumbing to loneliness.

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?

You've been out ridin' fences for so long now

Oh, you're a hard one

I know that you got your reasons

These things that are pleasin' you

Can hurt you somehow

Don't you draw the queen of diamonds, boy

She'll beat you if she's able

You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet

Now it seems to me, some fine things

Have been laid upon your table

But you only want the ones that you can't get

Desperado, oh, you ain't gettin' no younger

Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home

And freedom, oh freedom well, that's just some people talkin'

Your prison is walking through this world all alone

Don't your feet get cold in the winter time?

The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine

It's hard to tell the night time from the day

You're losin' all your highs and lows

Ain't it funny how the feeling goes away?

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?

Come down from your fences, open the gate

It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you

You better let somebody love you

(Let somebody love you)

You better let somebody love you before it's too late.

ASHEVILLE NC:

If you're trying to get to work, or in one of hundreds of thousands of houses without electricity right now, these are bad days. But for photographers, bring it on! Taken along the Delaware River in Philadelphia at the mooring site of the old tugboat Jupiter.

The artwork "Everyone Is Dead Except Us" by visual artist Ben Zegers was unveiled on Friday, September 18, 2020. Composed of two parts, it is located at the intersection of Binnenrotte and Hoogstraat, on the site of the former Rotterdam Dam (Dam in de Rotte). The sculpture consists of two elegantly turned and splayed feet. These feet evoke the city's origins, as well as the site's long-standing function as a marketplace. Each aluminum foot weighs approximately 2,000 kilograms and features various finishes. The raised heel and the rotation of the feet enhance the artwork's spatial presence and give it a dynamic appearance, in harmony with the dynamism of the marketplace and the city.

The brown anole (Anolis sagrei), also known commonly as the Bahaman anole or De la Sagra's anole, is a species of lizard in the family Dactyloidae. The species is native to Cuba and the Bahamas. It has been widely introduced elsewhere, by being sold as a pet lizard, and is now found in Florida and as far north in the United States as southern Georgia, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Hawaii, and Southern California. It has also been introduced to other Caribbean islands and Taiwan in Asia.

Except for the color of the water, which had a bit of blue in it, this shot of a willet, taken in the Corte Madera marsh, is pretty much SOOC. The only reason I removed the blue was the topic for Our Daily Challenge for 1/15 is "grey/grey." Also, I had to fiddle with some adjustment sliders so I could post it to the Slider Sunday group. And, on top of all that, I like it better with the blue gone.

Except, not technically. That's still a few kilometers further out. Nonetheless, it boggles my mind sometimes how the villages across the river are still a part of the same city I lived for the last 20-ish years.

What boggles my mind even more is how much the city has been in freefall since I've left - not that you could tell from this picture. I guess when the Sun suddenly goes out, the outer planets need a while to get the news.

Dartford Warbler - Sylvia Undata

Suffolk

The Dartford warbler (Sylvia undata) is a typical warbler from the warmer parts of western Europe and northwestern Africa. It is a small warbler with a long thin tail and a thin pointed bill. The adult male has grey-brown upperparts and is dull reddish-brown below except for the centre of the belly which has a dirty white patch. It has light speckles on the throat and a red eye-ring. The sexes are similar but the adult female is usually less grey above and paler below.

Its breeding range lies west of a line from southern England to the heel of Italy (southern Apulia). The Dartford warbler is usually resident all year in its breeding range, but there is some limited migration.

The Dartford warbler was first described by the Welsh naturalist Thomas Pennant from two specimens that were shot in April 1773 on Bexley Heath near Dartford in Kent.

The species is naturally rare. The largest European populations of Sylvia undata are in the Iberian peninsula, others in much of France, in Italy and southern England and south Wales. In Africa it can be found only in small areas in the north, wintering in northern Morocco and northern Algeria.

In southern England the birds breed on heathlands, sometimes near the coast, and nest in either common gorse (Ulex europaeus) or common heather (Calluna

Dartford warblers are named for Dartford Heath in north west Kent, where the population became extinct in the early twentieth century. They almost died out in the United Kingdom in the severe winter of 1962/1963 when the national population dropped to just ten pairs. Sylvia undata is also sensitive to drought affecting breeding success or producing heath fires, as occurred during 1975 and 1976 in England when virtually all juveniles failed to survive their first year.

However, this species can recover well in good quality habitat with favourable temperatures and rainfall, thanks to repeated nesting and a high survival rate for the young. Indeed, they recovered in some areas of the UK, but numbers are once again on the decline in other regions of their natural range.

The range of the Dartford warbler is restricted to western and southern Europe. The total population in 2012 was estimated at 1.1–2.5 million breeding pairs. The largest numbers occur in Spain where there were believed to be 983,000–1,750,000 pairs. For reasons that probably include loss of suitable habitat, the Spanish population appears to be declining. The species is therefore classed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature as being Near threatened.

A period of climatic warming since 1963 has seen the UK population increase to "more than 2,500 pairs in 2006 (Wotton et al. 2009). Expansion into patches of structurally suitable habitat (up to an altitude of 400m), more northerly areas and away from the core of the range, from Dorset and Hampshire to Derbyshire and Suffolk, is likely to have been facilitated by milder winter weather (Wotton et al. 2009, Bradbury et al. 2011)... The Dartford warbler population in the UK is expected to continue to increase. However, future climate-based projections for the European range indicate that by 2080, more than 60% of the current European range may no longer be suitable (Huntley et al 2007). There is evidence that this is happening already, with severe declines in Spain and France (Green 2017). For this reason, the species is classified as Near Threatened on the IUCN Global Red List. If the declines in southern Europe continue, the UK will become increasingly important for global conservation of this species".

Except for the cross fades to avoid the jarring intercuts, this video is made up of footage straight out of a Canon dSLR. Of course it helps that I used my standby EF300mm f/4 L IS and EF24-105mm f/4 L IS lenses but that's the reason why I chose to get a dSLR that does "double duty" instead of a full-time camcorder. I mean, Sony camcorders with Carl Zeiss lenses might be the bomb but the ability to use L lenses, as well as Leica and Hasselblad lenses (with the proper adapters, of course) would also be heavenly, right!?! :P

One minute there was no one on Cnicht's summit except us then from nowhere about 25-30 school children turned up with their leaders. I liked the view of them on the top with Tremadog bay in the background. The weather was stunning and a perfect spring day.

Except for some minor adjustments, this picture is just as it came out of the camera. I don't know why the sky is yellow. Perhaps my white balance wasn't correct. But I like the way it turned out anyway.

I don't care what the Netflix subtitles say, I'm not calling it Antique.

So, now that's all taken care of I can show you my latest project that's definitely not been sitting around for a few weeks: Anteiku! Took a while to get right, the floor plans were something that took a great deal of time to get right, but I think I cracked it. It's got the works, five floors, a roof area, plants, everything seen in the anime...

Except for characters and the entire furnishings of the floors above and below the cafe bit. The main build was enough to worry about, let alone doing all the interior decorating. I'll get to it one day, but for now it's just got the cafe.

You would not believe how hard it is to work out where things should be, I'm not even sure if the actual Anteiku works irl, lots of bits that don't quite line up.

But I like what I managed to do. Maybe I'll even work out some interiors for the other floors.

Egeria densa Planch.

This is the most prominent, busiest and popular side of Grand Canal. This part of the Rialto bridge is normally full of people all day long. Except if you go for sunrise/dawn; you will find the place for yourself. This evening was not an exception. As I had prior experience of what to expect, I went prepared and went early so that I have time to get the right spot and setup things properly. Setting up a tripod here is close to impossible. So I kept my little pocket tripod with me. It is a bit tough to setup, but it is pretty stable unlike most pocket tripods. It is ruggedly build solid aluminium and has a payload of 8 KG; which is very good for any DSLR. As long as there is a right base to set it up; it is good to go. So I took my time to set it up and then it was all about wait for the right moment to click.

Yet again the mobile photographers were real pain with people almost stretching their arm in front of the camera and even using flash to lit up Venice!!! I had to be very careful and kept the camera strap all the time on my neck as those super excited mobile photographers could anytime hit the camera to send it into the river. I wish there was no mobile camera invented and I wish we were still in the film world where photography was so hard that it was out of reach for most of the people. In modern world, specially with the mobile camera, serious photography is becoming more and more difficult. Specially at the popular places.

However; I am happy as long as people respect others. But unfortunately many mobile photographers have no respect of others and they are mostly unaware of photography. So probably they unknowingly put their arm in front of someone's long exposure without knowing that a camera can capture an image for several seconds. For them, it is just one click. At the same time, the flash is probably also unintentional as the mobiles are in auto and the flash triggers automatically. Many users of the mobile camera don't bother finding out how to switch that off.

Finally when I managed to capture one decent shot, I was super happy as I almost lost my hope. I immediately got out of there leaving rest of the people to fight with their mobile. It was a great relief.

At the end the image was all right and I did manage to capture some of the movements on the water. Even though I wanted a bit longer exposure. It was impossible in that circumstance. So I will content myself with this.

I have read a lot about Venice becoming over crowded. I can relate to it. I visited Venice few times with intervals of some years and indeed; this time I experienced the worse. Many tourists not respectful of the fragile situation of Venice. Throwing garbage all over the place. Throwing bottles into the water. It was a sad scene to experience in this amazing historic city. That is why I liked the dawn photography more. As I could enjoy the calmness with no one around and I could explore the corners at my own pace without any chaos.

Please have a look at my website www.avisekhphotography.com for all my recent works.

Have a nice weekend.

Hope you will enjoy the picture.

Any suggestions or criticisms are always welcome.

Expired film, no Lightroom processing, except to crop and add watermark: just an image that needs no tweaking...in my opinion.

I've said it before, I love the quality of film and its unpredictability, in a good way.

Still, not bad for film that's nearly 20 years past its expiration date. A pure gamble on my part but I like taking chances on film.

Enjoy!
