Doel is a small ghost town next to the ever expanding port of Antwerp.
Since 1999 the villagers are being expropriated, and most of them left. Anarchist squatters and Roma families have taken their places, since then living illegally in the abandoned houses. Kids are playing outside (instead of going to school), dogs look for food amongst the garbage, and the household stuff is often thrown on the streets. Yet, a couple of pubs are still serving their customers, the police is driving around, and the government is promising a quick solution for the 100 or so illegal Roma gypsies...
Shanghai is the largest economic and transportation center in China. It also enjoys a reputation as a famed historical city in the country. Now, the city is striving to turn itself into one of the economic, financial, trade and international shipping centers in the world.
Originally a fishing and textiles town, Shanghai grew to importance in the 19th century due to its favourable port location and as one of the cities opened to foreign trade by the 1842 Treaty of Nanking. The city flourished as a center of commerce between east and west, and became a multinational hub of finance and business by the 1930s. However, Shanghai's prosperity was interrupted after the 1949 Communist takeover and the subsequent cessation of foreign investment. Economic reforms in 1990 resulted in intense development and financing in Shanghai, and in 2005 Shanghai became the world's largest cargo port.
The city is a tourist destination renowned for its historical landmarks such as the Bund and City God Temple, its modern and ever-expanding Pudong skyline including the Oriental Pearl Tower, and its new reputation as a cosmopolitan center of culture and design. Today, Shanghai is the largest center of commerce and finance in mainland China, and has been described as the "showpiece" of the world's fastest-growing major economy.

Rail station mural ontrack for top award
A dramatic mural at Prestonpans railway station has been recognised in a prestigious competition.
The mural – supported by First ScotRail's Adopt a Station scheme and funded by Prestoungrange Arts Festival – is a finalist in the Community Rail Awards, with the winner announced next month.
The eight panels, hailed by locals and tourists alike, have transformed the station entrance into a stunning gateway for works of art.
The images cover the ticket office's main external wall, with the centrepiece depicting the Battle of Prestonpans.
Others feature the town's rich industrial past, including salt, brewing, mining, pottery and brick industries – and the 162-year-old history of the station and its trains.
Inside, the art continues – including a life-sized portrait cut out of "Joe," a boy in the waiting area, sitting on a bench reading a book.
Another life-size portrait is of John Seth, the first Station Master at the former Gullane Railway Station.
Adele Conn, the artist, told of listening to stories from young and old and "sharing in their memories before trying to convey this in what I painted."
She added, of the finalist place in the awards' Community Art Schemes' category: "I am proud to have been involved in creating something unique that manages to convey the heritage of the town and the station."
"It was great to paint the mural at the station as a welcome for passengers and visitors to Prestonpans.
"It is a bright and colourful gateway and now a tourist destination thanks to the ever expanding Prestonpans Murals Trail which this mural is part of.
"I'd like to thank the Prestonpans people, the community and its rich industrial past for providing me with such inspiration."
John Yellowlees, First ScotRail's external relations manager, said: "We are delighted at this recognition.
"The mural gives the station a more cared-for appearance; tells our customers something of the area's heritage — and leaves them in no doubt that the station is at the heart of the community it serves."
The awards' gala dinner will be in Plymouth on September 19.
Culver City, CA – It seems that everything a child touches becomes a toy. At what point does imagination no longer take the place of rational thinking. To adults she is holding sticks, to other children should could be holding the keys to unlock a new world. Whether they are alone or with others the creativity in children is ever expanding. Chelsea Handler and Jimmy Kimmel are feeling the heat on social media this weekend after separately cracking jokes that many have deemed homophobic.
On Friday, Handler joked that Attorney General Jeff Sessions preferred to be on the receiving end of gay sex.

The tweet had drawn over 4,000 replies as of Sunday afternoon, with many arguing that Handler had missed the mark with her joke.

Handler, who incensed members of the LGBTQ community earlier this year with a gay sex-referencing tweet aimed at Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), responded to the outcry later on Friday.
Retweeting one critic of her original tweet, she quipped that she, too, was “proud” to identify as a “bottom.”

Kimmel, meanwhile, also came under fire from many LGBTQ rights advocates Friday when he used similar allusions to gay sex in tweets directed at Fox News host Sean Hannity.

The two media personalities had been involved in a war of words for much of the previous week, after Hannity blasted Kimmel as an “assclown” and a “despicable disgrace” for mocking first lady Melania Trump’s accent in a segment that aired Wednesday.
But, once again, many weren’t laughing at Kimmel’s retorts.

Both Handler and Kimmel have expressed support for LGBTQ causes throughout their careers, which is perhaps the biggest reason their bottom-referencing jokes have landed with such a thud.
Acknowledging that many straight comedians opted to “employ bottom-shaming jokes to show that they ‘get’ gay culture,” The Daily Beast’s Ira Madison III nonetheless said Handler and Kimmel should re-examine the tone of their language if they wanted to be truly seen as queer rights supporters.
“If they actually cared about gay people,” Madison wrote, “they wouldn’t resort to clichéd jokes that imply being on the receiving end during anal sex is somehow a shameful, cringeworthy act.”

Shinnecock Indian Nation: An Ancient History and Culture.
Since the beginning, Shinnecock time has been measured in moons and seasons, and the daily lives of our people revolved around the land and the waters surrounding it. Our earliest history was oral, passed down by word of mouth from generation to generation, and as far back as our collective memory can reach, we are an Algonquin people who have forever lived along the shores of Eastern Long Island.
Scientists say we came here on caribou hunts when the land was covered with ice. But our creation story says we were born here; that we are the human children of the goddess who descended from the sky. It was she, the story goes, who caused the land to form beneath her feet from the back of Great Turtle, deer to spring forth from her fingertips; bear to roar into awakening, wolf to prowl on the first hunt. It was she who filled the sky with birds, made the land to blossom and the ponds and bays to fill with fish and mollusks. And when all was done, the Shinnecock, the People of the Shore, appeared in this lush terrain. We are still here.
As coastal dwellers, we continue to prize the bounty of the sea, the shellfish, the scaly fish, which for thousands of years provided the bulk of our diet. We were whalers, challenging the mighty Atlantic from our dugout canoes long before the arrival of the big ships, long before the whaling industry flourished in the 19th century.
In the 1700's, we became noted among the northeastern coastal tribes for our fine beads made from the Northern quahog clam and whelk shells. The Dutch, who arrived on our shores before the English, turned our beads (wampum) into the money system for the colonies.
The Shinnecock Nation is among the oldest self-governing tribes of Indians in the United States and has been a state-recognized tribe for over 200 years. In 1978, we applied for Federal Recognition, and in 2003, we were placed on the Bureau of Indian Affairs' "Ready for Active" list.
Traditionally, decisions concerning the welfare of the tribe were made by consensus of adult male members. Seeking to shortcut the consensus process in order to more easily facilitate the acquisition of Indian lands, the Town of Southampton devised a three member trustee system for the Shinnecock people. This system of tribal government was approved by the New York State legislature in February of 1792. Since April 3, 1792, Shinnecock Indians have gone to the Southampton Town Hall the first Tuesday after the first Monday in April to elect three tribal members to serve a one- year term as Trustees. In April of 2007, the Shinnecock Indian Nation exercised its sovereign right as an ancient Indian Nation and returned to one of its basic Traditions: it bypassed the Southampton Town Hall and for the first time since 1792 held its leadership elections at home, where they will remain.
The Trustee system, however, did not then and does not now circumvent the consensus process, which still remains the governing process of the Shinnecock Indian Nation. Major decisions concerning the tribe are voted yea or nay by all eligible adult members, including women, who gained the right to vote in the mid-1990s. Also in that period, the Shinnecock Nation installed a Tribal Council, a 13 member body elected for two years terms. The Council is an advisory body to the Board of Trustees.
Today, we number over 1300 people, more than 600 of whom reside on the reservation adjacent to the Town of Southampton on the East End of Long Island. While our ancestral lands have dwindled over the centuries from a territory stretching at least from what is known today as the Town of Easthampton and westward to the eastern border of the Town of Brookhaven, we still hold on to approximately 1200 acres.
With modest resources, we have managed to build a community to help us better meet the demands of an ever expanding and intrusive world. In addition to the Shinnecock Presbyterian church building and its Manse, our infrastructure includes a tribal community center, a shellfish hatchery, a health and dental center, a family preservation and Indian education center, a museum, and playgrounds for our children. Also on our list of recent achievements is the design and development of an official Shinnecock Indian Nation flag and an official seal.
Our skilled craftspeople and fine artists find employment within the Tribe as well as the surrounding area. The number of tribal members holding advanced degrees in law, business, medicine, social sciences and liberal arts continues to grow, and tribal members hold positions of responsibility in all areas, including teaching, banking and counseling, both within and outside the Shinnecock community.
One of the earliest forms of economic development that the Shinnecock Nation undertook was to lease Reservation acreage to local area farmers for their crops, mainly potatoes and corn. While the project did bring in a small income for the Tribe, the resulting damages from pesticides leaking into the ground water and polluting our drinking water supply were enormous. We had great expectations for our shellfish hatchery (Oyster Project) but brown tide and general pollution forced it to close before it had the chance to develop into the business enterprise it was planned to be. In the summer of 2005, the Tribe began reseeding parts of its waterways with oysters, and celebrated a renewal harvest of Shinnecock chunkoo oysters at the Tribal Thanksgiving Dinner, November 2006.
At the present moment, the Shinnecock annual Powwow is the economic development project of record for the Shinnecock Nation. Revived in 1946 as a benefit for our church, the Powwow has evolved into an event that hosts thousands of visitors. But we are at the mercy of the weather. For the past two years, rainstorms have forced us to drastically revise our budgeting plans. We are now exploring Indian Gaming as a means of attaining the much needed self-sufficiency that will enable us to perform the sacred duties laid out for us by the Ancestors — to protect, manage and maintain the Shinnecock Indian Nation.

House Moving 21st Century Style: While building moving is no new thing in Chicago, the moving today of Henry Ives Cobb's Rees House one block north on Prairie Ave (to a site two blocks south of Glessner House) has been called, at 762 tons, the heaviest house move in US history. It's a dubious honor. The Rees House was in the way of a stadium to be built adjacent to the ever expanding McCormick Place Convention Center. A preservation easement on the exterior and City Landmarking of both the exterior and interior (which has survived amazingly well) couldn't prevent the power of eminent domain from taking over the site, but they did put pressure on to move the house itself.
Nov 12th - A few more in progress pics from today. I got there around 9AM and they had started to turn the corner into the lot. By11:30 they had made some progress, but didn't move much by noon when I had to head out.

One of the largest glasshouses on Earth, the Temperate House is the world's largest surviving Victorian glass structure. Work began in 1860 but did not finish until 38 years later. Designed by Decimus Burton for Kew's ever expanding collection of semi-hardy plants, the house was built on top of a 2 meter high terrace made of sand and gravel recently excavated from the Lake.
Its position was planned to be part of a new grand entrance into the Gardens next to the Marianne North Gallery. When the siting of the new railway station changed, the entrance had to be made further along Kew Road at what is now Victoria Gate, leaving the Temperate House set apart in the middle of the Arboretum.
The centre block and octagons were complete by 1862 but work stopped when the project went over budget. Finally completed in 1898, the Temperate House has 4800sq metres of floor space - twice that of the Palm House.

If we look back twenty years to the front cover of the schedule book from 2000 (pictured below) or even earlier to 1972 maps (such as the White line, also pictured below), a few routes no longer ring a bell. While routes such as the 15 Link, the 21 Quad (a campus staple when I was a student), and the White line are defunct, the colorful array of MTD routes is ever-expanding. In more recent years, riders have been introduced to routes like the Teal, the Lime, the Pink, and the Raven. The 114 buses that make up the fleet serve Champaign, Urbana, Savoy, and the Campustown area at regular intervals.

Roma family, Doel, Antwerp.
Doel is a small ghost town next to the ever expanding port of Antwerp.
Since 1999 the villagers are being expropriated, and most of them left. Anarchist squatters and Roma families have taken their places, since then living illegally in the abandoned houses. Kids are playing outside (instead of going to school), dogs look for food amongst the garbage, and the household stuff is often thrown on the streets. Yet, a couple of pubs are still serving their customers, the police is driving around, and the government is promising a quick solution for the 100 or so illegal Roma gypsies...

Mr. Kamal Khosla oversees the operations of all R.K. International and associated firms and has played the central role in evolution of organization. Mr. Nawal Khosla has over 30 years of experience in Manpower management and deployment practices. Being the Vice-President, he has been the backbone of our organisation since its inception. His perseverence and dilligence efforts towards handling manpower and also all other matters realting to this aspect have made him well approached and effective in his approach. At R.K. International, he heads all the initial stages of deployment of candidates.
Mr. Dev Khosla, Senior Technical Manager
Mr. Dev Khosla is very meticulous and sharp when it comes to zeroing down the best possible person for the job. Mr. A.I.S Nair has been associated with R.K International for almost more 15 years. A gifted writer and presenter, Mr. Nair has delivered tremendous written work for the organization to hundreds of clients across the world. He has seen R.K. International evolve through years and has been an intergral part of it. From handling clients queries to handling the day to day administrative work, he heads it all. Very patient and reliant, Mr. Nair does his job well and makes sure that all the departments within the organisation are working in synchronisation.
Mr. A. K. Tandon, Human Resources Manager
Mr. A. K. Tandon has also been associated with the organization for almost 20 years and been a part of the growth it has witnessed over the years. His good HR skills have only bettered and bettered by experience. He has dedicated himself to find the best suitable candidate for the job.
