Led by GE ES44AC 7289 a huge manifest storms southbound into Seattle. The bulk, power and sheer presence of American railroads was shown off very well as this one headed south past Centennial Park.
Norfolk Southern manifest freight 309 heads west on a snowy afternoon as a pair of BNSF GE's and an NS SD60E lead the train across the trestle over Twentymile Creek in North East, Pennsylvania.

Although dealing with as much turmoil in the sky as this can result in losses, when the sun comes out at the right time, the resulting contrast is nice. A big S train, probably fresh from their work in Union Yard, highballs west and passes under St. Anthony Parkway at the 35th Avenue interlocking. They are just a mile into their 250 mile journey on the Staples Sub.
After a quick crew change, a matched pair of ES44ACs prepare to depart Bluefield yard and head up the Pokey with Chicago bound 217
On a sunny and warm February evening, NS 29G pops out of Montgomery tunnel as it continues west with an ES44AC leading the way.
Norfolk Southern 192 rumbles through the Greek Village at the University of South Carolina heading to Andrews Yard which is just a few miles away at this point. Ferromex ES44AC is leading.

Well now...this was a COOL surprise to see come up on the NSINTW earlier in the day! Seven brand new ES44ACs found their way up here, with 'Tren Maya' on the long hood, and TMY reporting marks. Anyone know where these are heading to? They're showroom fresh; no MU cables are even attached yet!

Norfolk Southern 8089 brings up the rear of a three pack of helper locomotives shoving on the rear of loaded coal train 746 as it makes its way east across the Pocahontas District towards Bluefield where they will be cut off. The train is about to disappear into the portal of the 1.3 mile long Elkhorn Tunnel in Maybeury, West Virginia.

A pair of CitiRail ES44AC's on short-term lease to CSX lead Waycross, GA to Cincinnati, OH train Q542-28 through downtown Atlanta, GA on a warm spring afternoon. CREX #1511, #1516 & CSXT #3329 pass the OWA milepost 2 while NS train #322 occupies track two on Southerns triple track main.

Led by a trio of GE locomotives, loaded CSX coal train C741 makes its way across the elevated trackage that passes through downtown Richmond, Virginia and knocks down the signals at Rivanna Junction as it crosses over a floodgate. Loaded with coal on the A&O in West Virginia, this train is bound for the Pier IX Terminal in Newport News for unloading.

A nice pair of units, CP 7022 and KCS 4783 lead 112 into Calgary today. It’s nice that Poco actually put something worth shooting on the infamous 112 that runs from Vancouver, BC to Toronto, ON.
Weaving its way east not long before dawn breaks, BNSF train U LIEGHL0 09T heads into the bad lands of North Dakota headed for Glen Harold, ND on BNSF's Zap Line.

#181 crosses the BNSF diamond still protected by searchlights. This is CPKC's new Mexico to Bensenville, IL hotshot. But today it took hours to combo with #252 seen to the right.
The ES44AC leader of loaded domestic coal train NS 768 throws some sand down as it climbs Elkhorn grade. Here it's heading east through Northfork, Wv on the "Pokey". This spot is great for lighting with an afternoon eastbound as this shot was taken after 3pm.
NS Pennsy heritage ES44AC #8102 leads westbound train 112 into a narrow sucker hole in the clouds that had moved into the region just in time to stymie my chase from Centralia. In a few minutes, the train will come to a stop on the main at New Baden, Illinois to wait for the eastbound 223, still some distance away at Coapman Yard in East St. Louis. Minutes later, this entire scene was back in the shade.
Canadian Pacific train 651 heads west at Belleville, MI, with a single ES44AC leading. A UP unit (8871) is on the tail end as a DPU.
CSXT ES44AC #1900 leads a Chattanooga, TN - Atlanta, GA extra X585 across the fill north of Emerson, GA.
April 7, 2020: A pair of Union Pacific engines (ES44AC GE, SD70M EMD), along with a CSX AC4400CW GE engine, bring loaded ethanol tank car train CSX K413 (Bensenville, IL-Ladds, GA) by the old mine chute at CP Halls near Adairsville, GA on the CSX W&A Subdivision.
With an SD70MACe and ES44AC on the point, CSX intermodal train I141 has just gotten on the LCL Subdivision after departing from Cincinnati. Rolling through Erlanger, Kentucky as it heads southwest, the train crosses the bridge over the Bullock Penn Creek valley as it climbs away from the Ohio River.

CSX train I136 crosses over the Youghiogheny river on the double track girder bridge just south of McKeesport, PA with a pair of Gevos for power. Built in 1968 by the P&LE Railroad, this bridge was part of a larger construction project where the P&LE and B&O relocated their tracks through McKeesport to allow for better traffic flow. This bridge now marks where CSX switches from the original B&O alignment to the new B&O across the river.
ES44AC 8160 brings westbound intermodal NS 233 into a very full Bluefield yard on a cool, overcast fall morning.
Norfolk Southern's 'Norfolk Southern' heritage ES44AC leads Birmingham, AL - Sheffield, AL train #329 on the NA West District. The train is passing under the abandoned L&N 'Cane Creek Branch' that came off the S&NA North Sub near Cullman, AL and tapped the coal fields of northern Alabama.
A westbound BNSF intermodal train has those UPS containers in the wind as it crosses over at Maine, AZ on March 13, 2021, led by ES44AC No. 6163.

Who knows how long it's been since a locomotive featuring a Burlington Route herald knocked down these signals.

Union Pacific train MGRRV has crested Donner Summit and is now working downhill as it passes through Soda Springs.
Having arrived at the Fire Lake Mine, the shuttle crew will swap from the solo AC4400CW, on the other end back to AMMC ES44AC 098 during the loading process.
As they do so, a procession of Caterpillar 988 front end loaders descends to load the 60 or so side dump cars, as Cat 773 haul trucks haul more ore up from the pit.
Once loading is complete, the conductor will drive along each side of the train, looking for loose or overhanging rock before the train departs for Mont-Wright.
