The steam engine by "Haslam Foundry & Engineering Co. Ltd. Derby England" produced electricity for the whole factory, for light, the machines, for cooling of the 12 storage rooms 5 cooling cellars, where they were able to store 180000 carcasses and 850000 tons of final products. The basic element for cooling was ammonia. This small steam engine was built for one purpose to haul lumber down from logging sites to lower elevation from the mid 1890's to the 1940's. However after WWII conservationists closed down logging operations and many thousands of acres of land were reforserted. This old tank engine is now just a decorative piece to an entrance to a ski resort.

May 23, 1887, CPR's Steam Engine No. 374 was the 'FIRST' transcontinental to arrive in Vancouver, BC Canada. Linking Canada from coast to coast. Atlantic Ocean - Pacific Ocean.

Today, it is on display at the restored Railway Roundhouse Maintenance Shed now known as the Roundhouse Community Centre.

But it was quite sophisticated for it's time !

89 FMC 1000 GPM, 1000 Gal. tank. Hoping to replace this engine in the very near future. It's been a work horse for many years!

Out for a bike ride into town today and manged to arrive just in time for one of Nene Valley Railways brilliant steam engines at Orton Mere. Pleased to see it smoking with a few suitably placed clouds in the background.
