The evening of December 5th, 2008 produced perhaps the most spectacular sunset Seattle has ever seen. A heavy onshore flow produced multiple stacks of lenticular clouds over all of the big Cascade Volcanoes from Rainier at least as far south as Mount Hood (maybe over Glacier Peak too, but I couldn't see it). As the sun set, the sky exploded in the most vivid reds and pinks I have ever personally witnessed. The color you see in this image has not been manipulated at all, there has been no boost in the saturation or hues and there has been no adjustment of the white balance of the image. This is really what it looked like that evening.

The picture itself is a composite of two frames taken about half an hour apart. One exposure for the incredible color in the sky, and another to capture the buildings with the lights on in a dark enough setting that they would stand out against the background. Processed independently in Lightroom, merged in Photoshop.

A Cresent moon falls as the colors from sunset still linger in the sky. Seattle seems so small tucked below the Olympic Mountains.

Our Seattle Seahawks play later today and the beautiful Seattle Space Needle is proudly flying the 12th Man flag.

It was wonderful seeing great friends Andre, Donia, Gary, Marcus and Howard and standing in the freezing temps while still dark out, waiting to see this gorgeous city. :)

Stay focused and just lean with it!

I've always contemplated hiking up Rainier. I'd need at least a years worth of conditioning and also the right gear. I know a few guys who have done it and am always filled with curiosity as they tell me their stories. Until then I'll just enjoy the view from Kerry Park;-)

I took this photo just before a lightning show over Seattle. That huge white cloud on the right is a thunder cell. The weather was looking pretty nuts and I knew something was up. The dark smooth clouds on the left were moving South as the massive cell kept creeping to the North. Soon enough the clouds met and lightning was born. To scale the size of the cell in this photo I checked the radar and the report was located over Snoqualmie off I-90 no more than 60 miles away!

I like endings that spring new beginnings. Just so you know

The world-famous and iconic Pike Place Market in downtown Seattle, Washington looking southwest.

I stumbled upon this enormous, mesmerizing serpentine tree while exploring Volunteer park last summer and the first thing that came to mind was Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. I felt as though I'd been transported to the wood elf forest realm of Lothlórien and wanted to recreate that feeling.

It was enormous and when standing beneath its outstretched elvish boughs, even the wide angle fully zoomed out felt restrictive and cramped.

I started my digital photography career just about two years ago. I've drooled over countless photos in or around the PNW. especially the city of Seattle. I've seen almost every composition(good ones at least) and have found a few not so popular ones that are now my favorite. I've also spent a ton of time on Google Earth mapping out new vantage points.

Another cool aspect of photography is the people I've met. Some of them good people but bad photographers and some of them good photographers but bad people... yeah I know right. But we all share a common interest. And I know a handful that are always looking for a never been done POV.

Well I came across this spot that I've eyed for a while but finally built the courage to go for it. I couldn't believe what I was seeing as it unfolded. The composition is near perfect. The icons, the lineup of the space needle and the queen Anne tower, the stadiums, the direction! I love it. I posted it to my Instagram and my Facebook! But that's what brings me to this; not a single one of my photography friends said anything about it. Most of them didn't even bother to like it. There was one person in the Seattle Photography Club with over 6000 members who mentioned the POV being "unique".

Maybe I expected too much? Maybe the composition sucks or I just took a horrible photo of it? Maybe I'm letting it get to me? haha

Anyways, here is a new comp I would like to share. Maybe someone here can at least try to guess where it's taken from. maybe someone here has seen this comp before? I'd like to see it!!

This is Episode 10 of the fourth season of TIA International Photography's Seattle timelapse series.

This episode is a nod to the classic 1939 film, "The Wizard of Oz". When I viewed the special features of the movie on DVD many years ago, I recall reading about an entire segment of the movie that was removed from the theatrical release. The segment focused on Dorothy and her posse's return to the Emerald City after eliminating the Wicked Witch of the West. According to the special feature, there was supposed to be a part of the movie in which the residents of the Emerald City receive word of Dorothy's conquest and proceed to host a tremendous celebration to welcome her back to the city in grand, extravagant style. The scenes were recorded but, apparently, they added several minutes to the movie that distracted from the main story. However, the pictures from the deleted scenes were enthralling to me.

As a result, I decided to dedicate this episode to my photographic vision of how the Emerald City would observe the victory of an extraterrestrial heroine over a domestic, wicked witch who had been perpetually terrorizing the city for years. What would that look like? Footage includes plenty of celebrations in Seattle from previous Independence Days and New Year's Days alongside scenes from the University of Washington, the Ship Canal Bridge, Lumen Field, T-Mobile Park, and the Overlook Walk at the Seattle Waterfront.

Currently available are plenty of timelapse videos. In addition, there are three funny videos about "fast love" in Paris, conflict in the skies above Kuala Lumpur, and a heartfelt attestation of no love lost for Los Angeles, have recently been added. Hoping to share a quirky anecdote about Edmonton, Canada, in the upcoming days.

All I wanted for Christmas was a dope sunrise to shoot. Santa came a day late but that's ok.

I drove by the park early to check the horizon and I wasn't happy. I drive to magnolia and shot for a bit before realizing that I didn't wanna be there. I made a trip back to Kerry park to see if maybe anyone I knew was there. I was suprised to see a friend of mine whom I haven't seen in ages there shooting. We chatted for a bit until she decided to leave. And then moments after she left this beam of light came out from the horizon! And then I waited and captured this star between some new buildings!

Happy Holidays Everyone!!!

This is one of the more unusual trees I’ve encountered. All its limbs seemed to contort every which way without much rhyme or reason.

This episode features footage of multiple neighborhoods of Seattle and the vicinity. Interestingly -- and unbeknownst to myself while producing this episode -- the Space Needle only makes one cameo. This is an unexpected accomplishment for this series given that Seattle is so much more than its most famous icon! Enjoy!

This place has changed quite a lot over the last couple years but have you seen the concept design for the new waterfront? I'm still not sure why there aren't monorail systems through the sky;-)

This week has been pretty great. I had a lot of extra free time this week to really go hard and get out to shoot. I've literally been out shooting every day/night since Sunday the 24th. The weather gods blessed the PNW with some great cloud formations and sunset colors alike.

This week I told myself I would try a different location every time I went out to shoot. Of course I went all out with weather maps and the TPE for sunset/moon times. But really I just looked at the sky and picked my spot. It just happened to work out every time I went out. I've said it before but the work I've put in seems to be finally paying off.

I'm buying a new computer and have been looking at the Apple with the 5k display. Any recommendations would be awesome!

There were some pretty epic storms this year. I dug this one up from the archives. I remember getting too close a soaking my shoes! I'd say it was worth it.

A concept I was working on and need to pick up and finish. Two exposures blended together here. One of the pedestrians at high iso and shutter. And another exposure at low iso and LE. This was dug up from the archives and now I've been inspired to go get some more. I hope you enjoy this.

Just a quick shot from the famous 12th street bridge last night. Sunset didn't quite go off like I had hoped but the blue hour did not disappoint.

Seattle, WA

Happy 4/20

My buddy Dennis hit me up to go shoot something and said he was gonna hit up Kerry Park. I asked if he wouldn't mind shooting gasworks instead and he said "Ok". As I arrived I could smell the sweet smell of ganja throughout the park. I had planned to get silhouettes of stones and joints with the sunset behind them and actually happened to catch a few. But it wasn't until the killer burn of a sunset that my attention was locked. The almost full moon didn't help keep my tripod in place. And then out of nowhere I notice a flash behind the clouds. Like a child I jump for joy and holler to Dennis "did you fkking see that"?!?! And soon enough the one hour and forty five minute show was on! The storm started in Oregon, eventually splitting off towards Mt.Rainier and then drifted it's way to Tacoma and Federal way. We were in the perfect spot to catch it behind the city. But that didn't stop the wind!!! It was blowing as a fast as race cars zooming by the way! Epic

I often come here just to seek out the mystic Heron. If he's not there I pass by wondering if it will be back when I return. Sometimes I get lucky.

Just hanging around at Jig's... I'm usually here when on SL. So relaxing and I run up to make a mess on top of the building platform... hehehe.

Twas a foggy weekend of last. Got around to shooting the city and some near areas. It wasn't until I started looking up when I really enjoyed the view.

Fall in the city can be found. A lot of the hardy plants, such as these Japanese maples, will look prime for just a few more days. The rain is coming to wash the leaves away....

Seattle, Washington

Seattle, Washington

Very early in the morning...

November, 2009

in a galaxy far, far away.....seems like so long ago and then again just yesterday. One of the first shots that I took after a bit of instruction from my better half. A few mornings like this and I was hooked...no looking back...well, except for today...looking back on the hundreds and perhaps even thousands of shots like this.

Nothing exciting here. Just a shot from the archives to post for fun. I was asked to get a couple Seattle Christmas images together and this is one of the ones I edited to pass on. Hope everyone gets out this weekend and tracks down some of that elusive fall color and brings it home to share with all of us.

The plan was to meet at Alki. When I arrived I noticed the tide was low enough to climb down to the beach. I made my way down but not before catching some sweet rays along the waterfront. That's when I noticed the other photographer. As I snuck up behind him the sun was setting fast and I rushed up to get this shot. I was lucky to get the star because just after this shot the sun was too low to capture. I met up with my buddy Rob right after as he flew his drone right by me and took my photo! I spoke to the photographer and ended up having a lengthy conversation which really had no real point but was full of valuable information. Good times.

So I made a visit to a park I haven't been to in a while. I was blown away by the progression of the city. If you'd notice the bright orange glass from one of the incomplete Amazon buildings. You can see a reflection of the space needle in the glass!! Wicked. I can't wait until the building are finished. And I think we should all petition to have that tree topped!!

I had never actually seen seagull eggs in person until this night. They are actually pretty big! A late night mission after the alarm shut off!

All right folks for those of you that know me too well... You sort of knew what to expect after two bright and colorful images in a row... right? I try to balance things out here going from full color to virtually no color and surreal scenes so this was next logical upload.

This was captured the last time that I have visited the West Coast. This piece has started from my archives that was captured with my previous D50 camera and then I converted it to b&w and added some interesting toning with NIK Silver Efex Pro. Then after visiting my friend Laura's stream and seeing some full moon shots I got inspired to add a full moon here and then I went an extra mile to add the stars and distant galaxies to add this surreal deep mood. So basically this came out to be a simple digital matte painting.

Also, this is to remind me of the love that I have for Seattle and how much I miss it. We used to live in Seattle in the early 90's... I loved how the city was surrounded by water and mountains anywhere you went... It was a gorgeous sight waking up to see the backlit Mt. Rainier in the distance and the other wonderful sights all day long...Ahh those worry-fee wonderful teenage years that I have spent in Seattle and the lovely memories... I miss the walks in downtown. I miss the sights of Puget Sound, Elliot Bay, Lake Union, Union Bay and swimming in the Lake Washington... I really miss you Seattle :( I would like to thank all my friends that have been sharing West Coast images with me. I highly cherish that.

~Have a wonderful week everyone!~

Seattle, Washington, is a beautiful city by day, but it is even more impressive at night when the city lights up!

Our friend Chinniah was in town last night from SF so Lisa and I made the customary run down to the 12th street bridge to meet up with him and a couple of his friends. We were treated to a pretty sweet little light show and some great clouds. At one point I heard the patter of stomping feet as Hai came running down the bridge while extending his tripod & cussing to himself. He looked up and saw me and said "You have been here the whole time?" Ha! Yes we have I said with a cheeky grin. Yes we have.

Watching the buildings burn is an understatement

"you don't belong here" is all I remember them saying. We didn't stay long. I'd like to thank my buddy Craig for allowing me to use his prime for this shot.

I took this photo with my canon years ago, and the only evidence I can find of it is in the form of a 4x6 print I ordered from Walgreens that has been hanging on my front door for years and years. I used to print my favorites just to see how they looked in print, and occasionally I liked one and would keep it around for inspiration or something like that. I have been trying to locate a digital original for a week now, and I haven’t had success. I also tried to find time to take a photo for Jan. 16, and again, I was unsuccessful. So I checked my phone for any photos I took with it on the 16th. This is the only one. I took a different one of the same photo a few days ago, but I didn’t think it looked straight so I did a retake today.

All that to say, not my best showing on the 1/31 thing. On the flipside, though, I was photographically inspired, so at least it ain’t nothing! Now to sift through 50 SD cards and find this thing. The app I used didn’t exactly clean it up as I’d hoped, but I’m glad I still have the image in some form, because yeah, it is inspiring.

With a 45% sunrise prediction I decided to face West and catch the pinks. I was blown away by the display of clouds and pinks that roared by. Pretty nice to see I-5 so bare in the mornings.
