Eccentricity is the degree to which two forms fail to share a common center. In mechanical engineering, an eccentric is a circular disk solidly fixed to a rotating axle with its center offset from that of the axle (hence the word "eccentric", out of the center).

It is used most often in steam engines and used to convert rotary motion into linear reciprocating motion to drive a sliding valve or pump ram.

(This eccentric is on an operating model of a steam tractor.)

The Old Elbe Tunnel in Hamburg.

A huge dome roof, three imposing stone portals with pillars and gables: At first glance, the round building on the St. Pauli Landungsbrücken is reminiscent of an ancient building. But there is no temple or church in the building on the Elbe. It provides access to a masterpiece of engineering architecture - the Old Elbe Tunnel. Two staircases with 132 steps each, four hydraulically operated cabs for vehicles and two small passenger elevators lead 24 metres into the depth. There is the entrance to two brightly tiled tubes. They lead 426. 5 metres under the water to Steinwerder on the other side of the Elbe. Taken during the HH-Flickr-Meeting in may, 2018.

Z’otz* Collective: Eccentric Coincidence

Inspired by the AGB’s architectural space and the cast of characters who wander these halls, Z’otz* have introduced a new eccentric troupe of creatures onto the scene with their expansive mural installation. The artist collective works spontaneously and intuitively, using mixed media and clay to explore their subconscious through drawings and sculpture. Their vivid storytelling explores themes of memory and Mesoamerican mythology through humour and collective action.

The Plymouth XNR is a concept car developed by Chrysler. It was designed by Virgil Exner, and first shown in 1960. Also called the XNR 500, the car is an open roadster with some asymmetric features, and was proposed as a sporty addition to the Plymouth model lineup, and as competition for the Chevrolet Corvette.

History

Automobile designer Virgil Exner left Studebaker to join Chrysler in 1949. Chrysler's previous designers favored conservative, upright body styles, but sales were declining. At Chrysler, one of his first challenges was to wrest final say over design away from the engineering department.

Exner commissioned a range of concept cars that were built in Italy by Carrozzeria Ghia. Among these were several sporty, open-top, two-seat cars, including three out of four of the cars in the Dodge Firearrow series, and the Chrysler Falcon. These studies were Chrysler's answer to the Ford Thunderbird and Chevrolet Corvette.

The XNR went through several name changes during development. Some early drawings label it the "Falcon".[8]: 120  This was also the development name of the car that became the production Valiant, until Ford registered it for their own new compact. Later the car was called the Asymmetrica, and later still renamed "XNR", a disemboweled, pseudo-acronym of the designer's own last name.

The shape of the XNR was influenced by a Studebaker Indianapolis race car that Exner owned, as well as by the later asymmetrical Watson Indy Roadster, and the Jaguar D-Type.

As originally built, the car reached a speed of 146 mph (235 km/h) on Chrysler's test track. Exner is said to have personally driven the car on the track at speeds up to 142 mph (229 km/h). Later, after being fitted with a fiberglass nosecone fabricated by Dick Burke and receiving additional engine modifications, the car reached a top speed of 153 mph!

Personally, I think the car is rather bizarre looking, and the production Plymouth Valiant that followed it was a bit more conservative, but, IMO, still rather bizarre looking.

Xezu was known for his eccentric experiments and strange creations, but his latest endeavor was by far his most unusual. He had concocted a potion that promised to make its user so stunningly beautiful or handsome that no one would be able to gaze upon them for more than a second.

One day, as Xezu was working with the potion, he accidentally spilled some of it into a nearby river. The river flowed into a small village, and soon, all of the villagers who drank from it were transformed by the potion's power.

At first, they were pleased with their newfound beauty and charm, but it quickly became a burden as they found that they could not go anywhere without causing a commotion. People would either freeze in panic and wonder or hide their heads, unable to even speak with the villagers.

As the days passed, the situation only grew worse. The villagers became isolated, unable to form meaningful connections with anyone. They could not go to work or attend to their daily tasks without causing chaos, and nothing worked as it did before.

Xezu, upon realizing the extent of the damage he had caused, felt immense guilt and set out to find a cure. He worked tirelessly, experimenting with different ingredients and methods until he finally succeeded in creating an antidote. He hurried to the village and administered the cure to all the affected villagers. Each person instantly became so ugly that no-one could bear to gaze upon them for more than one second.

Everybody was wishing for a white Christmas. That never happened. When we woke up this morning, our little town was covered with snow and it hadn't stopped snowing. Had an early dentist's appointment (yuk!) in another part of town, took my camera with me (to make the thought of s/o poking around in my mouth at least *a bit* bearable) and walked all the way back home through winter wonderland. And no, the capture is not tilting, the big church is built on a steep hill ;-).

After yesterdays slight eccentric image from Bangkok this was is more what you might expect. It shows some of the extraordinary details of the buildings in the Wat Pho complex .The temple is particularly well known for the huge golden figure of the reclining Buddha

Wat Pho is one of Bangkok's oldest temples. It existed before Bangkok was established as the capital by King Rama I. It was originally named Wat Photaram or Podharam, from which the name Wat Pho is derived. The name refers to the monastery of the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, India where Buddha is believed to have attained enlightenment. The date of the construction of the old temple and its founder are unknown, but it is thought to have been built or expanded during the reign of King Phetracha (1688–1703).
