Ruins of Kilchurn Castle on a rocky peninsula at the northeastern end of Loch Awe, in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It was first constructed in the mid-15th century as the base of the Campbells of Glenorchy, who extended both the castle and their territory in the area over the next 150 years. After the Campbells became Earls of Breadalbane and moved to Taymouth Castle, Kilchurn fell out of use and was in ruins by 1770.

Culzean Castle was constructed as an L-plan castle by order of the 10th Earl of Cassilis. He instructed the architect Robert Adam to rebuild a previous, but more basic, structure into a fine country house to be the seat of his earldom. The castle was built in stages between 1777 and 1792. It incorporates a large drum tower with a circular saloon inside (which overlooks the sea), a grand oval staircase and a suite of well-appointed apartments.

In 1945, the Kennedy family gave the castle and its grounds to the National Trust for Scotland (thus avoiding inheritance tax). In doing so, they stipulated that the apartment at the top of the castle be given to General of the Army Dwight D. Eisenhower in recognition of his role as Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe during the Second World War. The General first visited Culzean Castle in 1946 and stayed there four times, including once while President of the United States.

Tucked away in the snowy forest, Earl's Cabin is a perfect hideaway and goes to show you that we could all do with a little more simplicity.

Earls Court was for a long time a rural area at the out-skirts of London. This was, however, changed in the 19th century. In 1865-1869 the Metropolitan District Railway station was built, making it a prime location for housing development. In just 25 years the area was completely transformed, some 1200 houses built in the area - and two churches.

Earl and Daryl have definitely been here. The owner of this barn stated that some of the old weathered wood was rotting and asked the boys to fix it up.

Earl and Daryl decided to cover the beautiful weathered wood with old, left over corrugated metal panels instead. They didn’t even finish the job. The owners are complaining that on windy nights they have to wear ear plugs. Apparently the sound is like thunder produced on a B Horror Movie. What a shame. The wood would have been so attractive. They haven’t messed with the fences yet though, so HFF

One more from Earl's Crag. The rock on the left was a metre or so away from the one on the right, with about a 10 metre drop in between. Slightly scary jumping from right to left because the full view of the drop was visible.

The Bathing House, Howick, Craster, Northumberland, England

Charles Grey, who was at one time Prime Minster of Britain (1830 - 1834) and who 'Earl Grey' tea (yuck!) is named after. had a Bathing House built for him and his family in the 19th Century at the beach here. Charles Grey had 15 children (!!) with his wife Mary, and after an unhappy childhood at school in Eton, the Earl insisted on his children being home-schooled and built the Bathing House to help with outdoor learning. He had two rock-cut pools constructed on the foreshore below the Bathing House. The Bathing House and the steps cut into the rocks down to one of the pools are both Grade II listed structures. The pool directly below the Bathing House has a rock-cut channel which feeds the pool with fresh seawater.

A pleasing find as they are normally on the way out!

New Town, ND. Sixty-three years ago, the late Fred LaRocque built a statue of a cowboy on the east side of New Town. LaRocque built the approximately 19-foot-high statue to honor the “Old Time Cowboys of the Open Range.”

The statue of Earl Bunyan, “Cowboy of the Plains,” was dreamed up by Fred and his wife, Berd. Fred had made up a story that Earl Bunyan was the brother of his more famous brother, Minnesota’s lumberjack Paul Bunyan, to go along with the statue. LaRocque narrated the story for a comic book in 1961.

It has been suggested that the Earl Grey blend, or "Earl Grey's Mixture", may have been named after Charles Grey, 2nd Earl Grey, British Prime Minister in the 1830s.

This is one of several Earl Young's charming homes in Charlevoix, MI. I originally posted this back in 2011. This is a re-edit, I like it much better than the 2011 version. I never even noticed the little leprechaun on a stone by the roof, until now. I took this with my DSLR camera, which I still have but never used since I went mirrorless.

Not something I would normally share. I do take other pictures than landscapes you know :)

Not many though!

I met this young Duudle one around Christmas 2005 sitting on a park bench on a bright cold afternoon. He told me he had ran away from his abusive creators so my wife and I offered him a meal and a bed for the night. 3 weeks later he was still in our apartment, and still hadnt told us his name, when we had some wine one night, and he got drunk for the very first time.

And after hours of telling anecdotes, laughing and crying together, he finally revealed the name he was so embarrashed about ... "Earl". Gotta admit somehow I was a bit disappointed.
