After completing their drill moves at Track 8 and Chefler Foods within PC Yard, the NYSW WS-2 continues east with DL M420W 3560 and NYSW SD40-2 3024. The 3560 is on lease to the Susquehanna to combat a power shortage on the railroad.

Well, I decided it was time to try tone mapping. This image was already fairly dynamic using the feature on the 40D for more dynamic range. I also used a 2 stop ND Grad filter to even the exposure. I tone mapped this one and am quite satisfied with the results for a first whirl.

Swallows fly in random and dynamic path, like a bullet but randomly changing direction. It's hard to get them in the frame, and if did, then an instant auto-focus is a must to capture a clear image on its maneuver in air. Photographing fast moving bird not only is an excitement in art but also an opportunity to relook into science (aerodynamic). I guess that’s one of the reward in birding. Hope you like this one. My technique is alway the same:
Three exposures -2EV, 0, +2EV and then temperature adjustement using Lightroom and layering with luminosity mask using photoshop. Removal of distracting stuff with the stamp tool or patch tool. High pass filter to enhance details. Then saturation, contrast selectively control, dodge and burn where need...
DRI stand for Dynamic Range Increase. Three RAW files are used to achieve this. Rather than using a software like Photomatix for instance, I simply use mask to blend, my own way, the light, dark and normal shot with Photoshop and Lightroom.. To me, It looks more natural than the usual HDR treatment that I would normally applied.

DRI vient de l'anglais Dynmic Range Increase, qui pourrait se traduire par étendue dynamique améliorée. Les même 3 fichiers RAW entrent dans la composition d'un DRI. Plutôt que de se servir d'un logiciel comme Photomatix qui fait tout le travail, je me sers plutôt de masques pour filtrer l'éclairage dans photoshop et Lightroom. De mon point de vue, cette façon de faire donne une image plus naturel que le traitement HDR que j'employais auparavant.

Sunset at Bahia Honda State Park, Big Pine Key, Florida. These clouds are a tropical depression. That first week of June 2005 we had 2 tropical depressions hit us during our photography trip. The second cut our trip short, as we tried to out run the feeder bands that would jeopardize a safe trip home to Coastal Mississippi. August 29, 2005, Katrina struck the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The rest is history. However, at the time this photograph was taken, all was right with our little world! It will remain full of good memories, as the calm before The Storm!
I like to eat a big bowl of honey vanilla Greek yogurt and top it with these and some homemade granola :D Yummm!

Just another burmese real fisherman on Inle Lake, Myanmar, wearing the traditional longyi with the peculiar leg-rowing style.
Trying to go longer with my sub exposures on the AT6RC. The Orion Nebula can be challenging to image due to the wide range of brightness, making it very easy to overexpose. For me, the challenge in processing preserving dynamic range without looking artificial. Short exposures (180s and 30s) have been blended into the overexposed core. Final image here is 3hr30min exposure. It's been cropped to remove edge distortions due to the oversized full-frame sensor. Forgive the oval stars - I'm going to blame periodic error for that.

These ripples at Lake Louise provide a kind of dynamic serenity. Was able to get to the lake from Banff for sunrise last week on a trip. The quiet was palpable. The ripples were provided with a little snowball and added a sense of dynamic movement to the moment.
