Shot with the Sony A77 (alpha 77) and it's HDR (high dynamic range) feature, which took three exposures at +/- 3 EV and combined them all in camera.
The Malibu Pier at Sunset!
A pretty blue, pink, red, and yellow sky!
Red at night is a sailor's delight!
The amazing mirrorless Sony cameras are able to shoot three shots in rapid succession without shaking the camera (with the standard mirror flip in DSLRs), and then the Sony cameras combine the three exposues (+3 EV, 0 EV, -3 EV) in camera, exalting the detail in the highlights and in the dark/blacks! Thus we get the high dynamic range, though not in a fakey way like so much HDR, but in a natural way, which lets the landscape retain its natural beauty a the eye would see it in nature. Enjoy!
The dynamic duo just arrived today! Delighted! 😃 I had the Batman as a 7 year old, but mine has long gone! He was a present from my Nan as I was in bed with the measles! These two are in quite good condition! Just touched up Batman's boots and Robin's hair & mask with permanent markers, as they were badly chipped! Villains beware!!!

Pele's Well on the rocky Kona coast, Hawaii.
Having seen James Capo’s tremendous photo of Pele’s Well earlier this year in Outdoor Photographer magazine, it was constantly on my mind. After several months passed, I was able to visit the well and make my own photos. It was almost a surreal experience. Being such a dynamic spectacle, I was unable to select just one photo to depict its beauty and intrigue because it changes so much from instant to instant. So, I’ve uploaded several shots to flickr that showcase this phenomenon at different times during the flushing cycle. Note how much overflow occurs on some flushes, but not on others. Of course, the sound of rushing water added to the adventure but photos can’t depict sound. So, I will eventually upload at least one short video with audio.
A word of caution: Approaching closely to Pele’s Well is not without risk. The rocks can be quite slippery and one’s life could be changed in an instant. Furthermore, the water level and distance of spread along the rock surfaces vary rapidly so it pays to be alert.
Here's my first attempt at HDR photography... My impression is that its just a trick...like a filter in photoshop...not hard to do in photomatix pro...which has a free trail version on line... Essentially you shoot 3 or more photographs with different apetures...(use manual apeture mode)...try not to move the camera...or use a tripod... Make your apetures widely varied...so that the photos will actually look different... Open the Software and just load the photos from the computer or chip Then hit merge to "process" the photos and you're done...you can do some "enhancements" if you like...then click save and your HDR photo is on your desk top in a minute or two... Will continue working on it with better photos... Interesting....perhaps...but not really hard to do...and awfully common nowadays...the "unreal' look could get old fast....
