Thank you for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Thistle is the common name of a group of flowering plants characterised by leaves with sharp prickles on the margins, mostly in the family Asteraceae. Prickles can also occur all over the plant – on the stem and on the flat parts of the leaves. These prickles are an adaptation that protects the plant from being eaten by herbivores. Typically, an involucre with a clasping shape similar to a cup or urn subtends each of a thistle's flower heads.

The comparative amount of spininess varies dramatically by species. For example, Cirsium heterophyllum has minimal spininess while Cirsium spinosissimum is the opposite. Typically, species adapted to dry environments have greater spininess.

The term thistle is sometimes taken to mean precisely those plants in the tribe Cardueae (synonym: Cynareae), especially the genera Carduus, Cirsium, and Onopordum. However, plants outside this tribe are sometimes called thistles.

Biennial thistles are particularly noteworthy for their high wildlife value, producing such things as copious floral resources for pollinators, nourishing seeds for birds like the goldfinch, foliage for butterfly larvae, and down for the lining of birds' nests.

A thistle is the floral emblem of Scotland and Lorraine, as well as the emblem of the Encyclopædia Britannica.

Smile on Saturday… nose

We’re supposed to post a photograph of a nose and it’s supposed to be a new posting. But it’s been just over 6 months since our beloved almost 21 year old kitty passed over the rainbow bridge and I wanted to honor her today. So there are 8 pictures of the LBC and one blue wooden cat nose. I’ll understand if Maria Godfrida does not want to allow the one I end up choosing.

MacroMonday- This is actually a miniature Arabian coffee pot- 1 inch in diameter, less than 3 inches tall.

We’ve had an odd mix of sunshine, rain and thunderstorms over the last week, caught this partial rainbow from our back garden over the weekend. Ramped up the aperture more than I usually would and was horrified by the amount of dust I had on my sensor, spent ages touching them out!

Took this with a Dutch angle composition in mind, so HSoS!

Well, this is kinda embarrassing kinda forgot it was Monday!

Went for a combo of Dutch angle and on a coin for my redux theme. This is my first Flickr shot using my new RGB colour mix LED light that Santa bought me!

(could also be for the 'one colour' and spiral themes too)

The subjects are plastic jelly moulds stacked up underneath the kitchen tap. The tap is turned on with a slow drip and I just fired away...after many shots, this is the best with two stringy drops on different levels.

There a 2 light sources , the kitchen ceiling light and a spot light at 8 o'clock.

Many thanks for your visit, comments and faves...it is always appreciated...

This might not seem like a difficult shot but the reality is that it was. I've taken similar photos multiple times in crowded places. The difficulty here was timing. When I had people in the right spots of my frame, the fountain was off. When the fountain was on nobody was crossing Syntagma square, probably Athens' busiest square (imagine that!). Plus I had to be kneeled down and holding the camera right on the ground. After 10-15 minutes of sitting there with people giving me weird looks I think I was able to get the shot I needed. It's hard for me to find inspiration in places I am used to (because I live or lived there) so when I went for a photo walk downtown I had little expectations that I will get any good shots. But I think I got some decent ones with this one being the one I liked the most.

This is a lucky shot. A sparrow was stretching on the fence of my balcony. I just rotated the camera to the left and shot.

Be well and safe.

Thank you for taking the time to look.
