Friday morning I went to pick up my suit from the drycleaner and took my camera with me. I wanted to document the old equipment in this 100 year old shop in an old house in Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary - the shop was started by the grandfather of the current owner, who is also 70 years old and may not continue this business for long.
An old electric spin dryer in the workshop - since they use benzyne in the workshop, the electric engine has to be in the other room, and the torque passed onto the machine with the help of axles and belts.
If you view this large (but you already know to do that), you will see this mural in the window. I believe that it is celebrating the sandhill cranes, which migrate here in large numbers in the fall and spring.
Just one block off of downtown Bozeman (West Main, if you were at all curious...I know, I wasn't either) is East Babcock. East Babcock is where the Gallatin is, or, more precisely, was. The building is still there, as is, you can plainly see, the sign as well.
While this is a nice example of an old sign, it's the color of the sky that sells it.

There are parts of Spain where you can find women sitting in the doorways of their houses practising this historic art.
Sheffield's municipal transport department were enthusiastic when it came to publicising their bus and tram routes, partially due to the fact that after 1929 the Corporation formed part of a Joint Omnibus Committee with two of the Grouped railways, the London MIdland & Scottish and the London & North Eastern Railways. This gave 'their' buses the great advantage of an unusually large geographic operating area and this included large parts of the Derbyshire Peak District. In response the Department actively encouraged the use of their routes, buses and city tramways, for walks and rambles at a time when such pastimes were very popular.
This small card folder is an interesting take on facilities available. It takes the form of a wheel that lists destinations in alphabetic order along with route numbers, basic fares and the starting points of the various bus routes; some were 'feeders' to the city's extensive tramways system that served the urban core of Sheffield. It also shows the 'logo' of SCTM that was used on various items of publicity at the time.
The card is in a very 'thirties style and was produced by Stanley Studios. The back cover has an advert for local dyers and cleaners W. May Ltd. that is inset on the same background as the front cover that shows a motor bus amongst stylised 'Clarice Cliff' landscapes. It is not dated and feels mid-1930s but could be a little earlier.

More like one and a half stars, probably, but I want to give them the benefit of the doubt because the sign has sequins.
