The display in the window of Waldorf-Nevens Cleaners on Hennepin between 11th and 12th. I imagine someone left those behind long ago.
On the day I encountered Larry Mullins painting an abandoned storefront in Shockoe Bottom, his work was already familiar to me. I'd seen eight or ten of his colorful pieces adorning various unlikely surfaces around town, but I didn't know his name. I don't recall now if I connected this guy to the other works I'd seen. At this piece's stage of development, the characteristic style wouldn't have jumped out at me. I wish now I had returned to photograph it after it was done.
On this day, as I lifted my camera to take the picture, Mullins turned toward me, startled. "Do you own this building?" he asked me with a note of worry in his voice. I laughed and told him I didn't. We exchanged a few words and I moved on.
Main Street, across from the farmers market , Richmond, Virginia, 1990.
my dad talked to the young lady who works at the dry cleaners about people who leave their shirts buttoned when they drop them off.
The SW corner of Kenmore & Granville, where there's a great (and cheap) dry-cleaner, as well as Metropolis, my favorite coffee shop in all of Chicago.
Across the city block where I live, three minutes walking distance.

I tried shooting this at night because thats when I was there. I thought the bubbles painted on the wall were interesting...and I also shoot laundries if they are interesting enough.
So I flew in & out of Orlando in June to see my Mom in the north of FL and on my way back went an older "scenic" road and in the midst of terrible thunderstorms took these serendipitous photos of an old dry cleaners. I was really brave folks to get out of my car, a lone woman after dark in this neighborhood and with lightning all around me - no flash here as usual -

Too confusing of an image? No doubt. Still, I rather liked the jumble of the North End landscape reflected in the window of Spotless Cleaners where two men add yet another sign to the display. (BTW, the rest of the "Expert" sign reads "Shoe Repair" in case you're looking for a place that does it all.)
