Definitely not as good as the original, but I took this handheld and just got off the ride myself so I was still shakey, but I leaned against the wall for this and shot this through a fence.

Hope everyone has an awesome new years, and hoping that 2009 will bring great things. Oh, and party harrrrddddd. Haha. (;

A shot from the trip out today. Not too sure about this one. I think I like it but not sure.

The Back Entrance of Quality Time Tavern, in Meriden, CT. on Broad Street, across from City Park. If you grew up on the east side of Meriden, you're sure to find an old friend in Quality Time on any given evening. It's a fun place to hang out, and have a few drinks.

I have many fond memories of being here, in this building with my close friends, and classmates. I even remember when it was called "The Brookside". We used to have a great time in there, too. I was just barely old enough to drink back then, but I do have vivid memories of having drinks there with my best friends. This has gotten even better over the years, turning into a very friendly place to hang your hat, and spend some time listening to live music and seeing people you haven't seen in a while. I did do a lot of post processing on this image to get it to come out this way. I'm learning to use Topaz Simplicity and NIK Color Efex 4 Pro. And I find that I learn a little more with each try.

Majolika-Manufaktur was set up at Karlsruhe in south-west Germany in 1901 in a pottery built by Grand Duke Friedrich I. The raison d'etre for the pottery was the desire of two German pictorial artists, Wilhelm Süs and Hans Thoma, to produce ceramics in the Italian Renaissance style.

Towards the end of the decade a style had developed with designs, often churubim, on a blue background. Domestic and decorative wares were produced using designs by various artists, and the company started the production of architectural and outdoor ceramics.

In the following years the pottery passed through various hands, at one time being occupied by Villeroy and Bosch, the premises being owned by the state of Baden. In 1927 the word 'Staatliche' was added to the name to indicate state ownership. Top designers of the day were employed, notably Ludwig König and Max Läuger.

The factory was badly damaged by bombs in 1944, and was not back into full-time production of decorative goods until the 1950s, after which business resumed much as in pre-war days with company-employed and freelance designers. Examples of the company's products can be seen at the Badisches Landesmuseum in Karlsruhe.

A really cool shot that I took at night, of a lamp post, lit up in Mattabassett Condominium Complex, over on Preston / Baldwin Ave. I took the picturre last May 16, 2014. It was 4:15 a.m. when I took the shot, with my old Canot Powershot. I was looking for some files today and came across some older Pics, in a Folder on my PC.

An encounter at the feeder had both these Rufous Hummingbirds fanning their tails. The action was quick and full of chatter as they each tried to intimidate the other. The Rufous migration south this year has finally subsided and left our garden void of their confrontational action and sound. It is being replaced, however, by the cheerful sounds of songbirds. A much more peaceful scene than the frantic activity of the hummers--but how we'll miss them!

Place du Carrousel 21/05/2019 20h34

The sun is still not setting but the shadows are getting longer and longer in the garden Jardin du Carrousel and around the triumphal arch Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel with Musée du Louvre in the distance. It is an ongoing favorite spot for me to come back ant take pictures around the hour before sunset.

My last time was October 2015 (click to see this photo).

Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel

The Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel is a triumphal arch in Paris, located in the Place du Carrousel. It was built between 1806 and 1808 to commemorate Napoleon's military victories of the previous year. The more famous Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile, across from the Champs Élysées, was designed in the same year; it is about twice the size and was not completed until 1836.

The monument is 19 m high, 23 m wide, and 7.3 m deep. The 6.4 m high central arch is flanked by two smaller ones, 4.3 m high, and 2.7 m wide. Around its exterior are eight Corinthian columns of marble, topped by eight soldiers of the Empire.

Designed by Charles Percier and Pierre François Léonard Fontaine, the arch was built between 1806 and 1808 by the Emperor Napoleon I, on the model of the Arch of Constantine (312 AD) in Rome, as a gateway of the Tuileries Palace, the Imperial residence. The destruction of the Tuileries Palace during the Paris Commune in 1871, allowed an unobstructed view west towards the more famous Arc de Triomphe.

Drop shadow is mostly used to create the natural sense of an image. Sometimes an image seems as if it’s hanging on air. Adding natural drop shadow makes close connection with the background. The effect is mostly used for the images used for marketing purpose.

They are getting ready to close this Catholic Grammar School in Meriden. St. Stan's has been around for a very long time, and was once the most populated parochial school in Meriden. I went to the St. Rose School, which was nearly as popular as St. Stans. It really is a shame to see the churches in my city have to close. We had so many, back when I was in grade school. This is on the corner of Akron and Olive Streets.

The magic of conformal mappings strikes again, this time in an unlikely place: the Mandelbrot set, the iconic image of fractals.

This is a quite impressive feat: there is a conformal mapping between the outside of the unit disk and the outside of the Mandelbrot set. The Hubbard-Douady potential can be constructed as the logarithm of the absolute value of this conformal mapping. In the case of this image I transformed the circle representing the two-headed eagle of Hessen in front of the Wiesbaden Rathaus into the Mandelbrot set.

I saw the idea of merging photos and the Mandelbrot set in this and this picture first.

While driving down Bunker Ave, I stopped at City Park, and took this picture through the park, of an old church on the other side.

Card created for the Hero Arts "unexpected" challenge and based off of Friday's colors here.

I printed out the digital tree over my embossed raindrop background. I like how the printer ink didn't set over the embossing & gives the impression of snow falling. I enlarged the tree to run off the edges & color overlayed the tree to match the green & purple in Friday's color combo. I also added a dropshadow to give the tree dimension. TFL!

Materials used:

Digital Kit: Hero Arts Scribble Trees

Cardstock: Hero Arts Lagoon Notecard

Jewels: Hero Arts & Basic Grey

Other: chipboard tag, Ranger Distress Stickles (crystal), Spellbinder's Nestabilities Label One & Cuttlebug
