For this photo, I was just trying to capture the absurdity of labels in high school. I found a old-school label machine font that I found on dafont.com and decided I would use it to try and deface what looked like a yearbook photo.
I snapped a shot of the stoop kids, sitting around during break one day. I wanted to get the crowd in the background to set a clear setting, but have the main three be in the front so that there wouldn't be any question as to what the subject of the photo is. I picked three random labels that get thrown around and stuck them on their faces.
For editing, I messed around with the hue of the original photo so that it would old and crappy like a shot someone had snapped on a disposable way back when. Then I added a crumpled paper texture and a heavy vignette using a radial gradient layer. There were also some levels and curves thrown in there. And I blurred the people in the background a bit.
Oh, and there's a small white dropshadow on the text.
Applying a Drop Shadow is not at all difficult in Photoshop. You can also manipulate the Drop Shadow.

GOLD HILL post office was active from July 13, 1862, to February 27, 1943, when its operations were transferred to Virginia City.

Downloaded/added Warhammer logo and Dark Elf logo, added dropshadow and inner shadow to logos
From tonight's episode of the Daily Show with John Stewart. Perhaps the worst Photoshop job I've ever seen on that show. I know they do it daily, but c'mon! ;-)
PS. I think it's hilarious. I'm not really complaining.

In 1875, the Hale & Norcross in conjunction with the Savage and Chollar-Potosi mines sank a large four compartment shaft known as the Combination Shaft, to explore the Comstock Lode at a greater depth, but the operation proved to be of little value. Today remnants of the Combination Shaft can be seen to the east of Virginia City. Total production from the Hale & Norcross from the years of 1875 to 1826 yielded $10.1 million ($17,600,000.00 in today’s dollars.

With drop shadow. Claas has a nice collection of the ‘Danish g’, i.e. a ‘g’ with an open/cut-off loop.
More tabletop shooting. No points for guessing where the key light was placed.
