The Mail Rail trains and exhibition are opposite the Postal Museum in London. The Post Office (London) Railway - later called Mail Rail - opened in 1927 and ran until 2003. It enabled mail to be transferred between the main London mail sorting offices more quickly than by using transport on the congested streets.

Specially designed driverless mail cars ran at speeds of up to 30 mph on two foot gauge track.

These carriages have been converted to enable passengers to ride through part of the network. This train has just returned from an excursion.
