Everyone's excited about the idea of electric driverless vehicles lately. In Vancouver, we've had electric driverless vehicles for 32 years. I just rode one to New West to have a few drinks with the tech crowd I hang with out here.

Handheld le in the Copenhagen Metro, Denmark.

Did some adjustments to contrast, noise, sharpness and color. See untouched raw file below.

The problems I had with stray light in the start I fixed by zooming in and I also used my Copenhagen map to form a cylinder and holding it around the lens. This helped a lot on the reflections from the glass.

For stability I pushed the lens towards the windshield. I guess for even better results you should bring a black blanket and some duct tape. (You could replace the duct tape with an assistant, whichever is the easiest) Expect some staring either way.

I bought a day pass and did 5 rides back and forth the M2. I got of and turned when the line left the underground. All done in an hour or so.

Update: Thanks a lot for the kind comments today! changed the title around a bit. Couldn't really nail this one. However the image is probably enough alone:p Easy way out was just quoting Enrico Fermi.. Further reading here: waitbutwhy.com/2014/05/fermi-paradox.html

Wiki:

Copenhagen Metro (Danish: Københavns Metro) is a rapid transit system serving the cities of Copenhagen, Frederiksberg, and Tårnby in Greater Copenhagen, Denmark.

The 20.4-kilometre (12.7 mi) system opened between 2002 and 2007, and has two lines, M1 and M2. The driverless light metro supplements the larger S-train rapid transit system, and is integrated with DSB local trains and Movia buses. Through the city center and west to Frederiksberg, M1 and M2 share a common line. To the southeast, the system serves Amager, with the 13.9-kilometre (8.6 mi) M1 running though the new neighborhood of Ørestad, and the 14.2-kilometre (8.8 mi) M2 serving the eastern neighborhoods and Copenhagen Airport. The metro has 22 stations, of which nine are underground. In 2013, the metro carried 55 million passengers.

METRO RAIL SYSTEM , DRIVERLESS, AN ENGINEERING MARVEL.

Great Deal of Planning , sync, co-ordination and Precision image capture of your friendly family in the lead window of a moving train from a lead window of train approaching from opposite direction. In fact, one photographer failed to make the precision shoot.

The fast moving train emerging out of an yet to be completed station was shot from another fast moving train. People you see in the front window are travelers enjoying the exiting city scape. Similarly we were viewing from the fast moving train from the opposite direction. Yet Another Hi tech marvel in Dubai.

Driverless cars are the future. Google has one or is trying to make it work.

Friday around 18.30 I was on my way to my weekly badminton play and took this HDR photo when on the Essiengeleden road and we did around 80km/h. At this speed doing HDR is of course futile and the results would be weird I knew :-)

The driver in the car sort of got lost and I got two moons :-)

A great viewpoint where we can enjoy both the cathedral and one of the town's most important bridges. You may wonder what are these lines below the bridge? That's Lausanne's driverless metro, the only one for now in Switzerland!

Vintage Stony 2022. A nursery school for petrolheads of the future? Mind you, by the time today’s children grow up all vehicles are likely to be electric and the petrol engine will be considered “quaint” - like coal fires and red telephone boxes! In my home town of Milton Keynes we are currently trialling driverless cars, which personally I find quite frightening. So in a relatively short period of time we have come a long way from when a man walked in front of your car with a red flag…

The times they are a changing. Soon we won’t even have to think for ourselves…

This is an old tractor testing circuit previously used by David Brown Tractors and more recently Case Tractors. The tractor on test was tethered by a boom to the centre of the circuit and then set on its way (driverless!) for around 100 hours at around 4 miles per hour to test for noisy panels and general reliability. Some history on David Brown Tractors in this Wikipedia article. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Brown_Ltd.

Sydney Metro Opening.

Chatswood to Sydenham.

From the outback to the big smoke, venturing into Sydney for the opening of the newest edition to Sydney Metro.

Jen and I got off and on all the stations and checked out the architecture and art work.

Quite a nice addition to the city transport needs moving people efficiently and keeping vehicle congestion at bay.

The first service of the day on the other end of the line left Tallawong in the city's north-west at 4:38am.

Originally the driverless line only ran from Tallawong to Chatswood, with construction of the new 15.5 kilometre section started in 2017.

The story behind the art and architecture inside Sydney Metro's new city stations

Photo shows Wall art of a tunnel inside a train station.Wall art of a tunnel inside a train station.

The train stations of Sydney's CBD have been little more than grubby pit stops, but those behind the new metro project hope that its gleaming stations with architectural-scale artworks will have commuters looking twice.

The wider service will stop at metro stations throughout the city including Chatswood, Crows Nest, Victoria Cross, Barangaroo, Martin Place, Gadigal, Central and Waterloo before terminating at Sydenham.

Sydney Metro's newest train line runs under the harbour bridge and through the heart of the city.

The extended section of the M1 line is up and running after the opening of the $21.6 billion project was delayed last week due to safety regulator approvals.

The Changi Airport Skytrain is an automated people mover that connects Terminals 1, 2 and 3 at Singapore Changi Airport. Opened in 1990, it was the first driverless and automated system in Asia. Travel on the Skytrain is free and an inter-terminal journey takes approximately four minutes. All stations are equipped with platform screen doors, are air-conditioned and have plasma displays indicating the arrival time of the next train.

56074 Kellingley Colliery heads east through Healey Mills back to the Yorkshire coalfield with a train of empty MGR coal hoppers, 17th March 1983.

Locomotive History

56074 was built at Doncaster Works and entered traffic March 1980, allocated to Healey Mills. Along with 56073 it was fitted with remote control equipment to allow driverless discharge of MGR’s at a power station. The cab roof beacon would flash when this was in use. Similar equipment was fitted to two Class 47’s, 47277 and 47373. No other locomotives were so fitted and it was removed circa 1987. After twenty five years service it was prepared for service with Fertis in France. It was repaired, repainted and dispatched to France for engineering train duties in September 2005 and returned from France in mid October 2006. It was stored at Old Oak Common until moved up to Crewe Diesel Depot for further storage in May 2009 where it remained until eventually transported to Ron Hull, Rotherham and broken up during April 2014.

A hidden world inside my desktop, and what a modern wonder it is. Considering that 50 years ago none of us had personal computers (Altair in 1974 first PC), we have come along way! I could not do without my computers now, very much part of everyday life.

We have smart houses, smart phones, possibly driverless cars and maybe pilotless commercial aircraft ... where will we be in 50 years' time?

How it was done a very long time ago. Driverless trucks, trains etc are all real life now although the whole idea of semi-trailers lumbering down the road with the driver asleep gives me cause for concern. But that's the development being worked on overseas. At least trains have rails to guide them even if they crash off the rails at the bottom of a hill (call me Happy Joe!)

This is part of the street display at the Heritage Centre in the small Southern Downs township of Killarney, Queensland.

With a GPS-controlled tractor with attached planter, cabbage plants are planted in long rows in the large field. Sitting on the machine, two men place the root ball plants from the crates one by one into the machine, which then takes care of the actual planting. The photo was taken on a cloudy summer morning near the Dutch town of Prinsenbeek, municipality of Breda, province of North Brabant.

Taken from the front of the driverless train about 12 year ago. Old deteriorated film recently processed. The deterioration left the film purple!

The picture is a bit deceptive, looking like it does as if there is a driver. The train in fact is moving away from the camera, and the trains are automatic; driverless. There are seats for drivers if needed, but they are not separated from the rest of the cars, so anyone can sit there in front of the covered up controls. It is a nice seat to get if you can, either looking down the tracks where the train is going, or where it has been.

Je l'ai rencontré ... entre deux expositions !
