This is an artist's impression of the new kitchen. We placed the order yesterday (1/24), and requested delivery no earlier than April 1 (so it'll be a bit warmer and it won't interfere with some March plans). Professionals will install, but we'll do most of the demo work ourselves as well as re-tile the floor.

Our Lady of Lanikai (rendered in colored pencils)

This unique representation of the Blessed Virgin was inspired by a profound personal experience that I had in 2004 involving a tiny pebble. Back then I had a health crisis during which I was undergoing severe abdominal pains for several weeks - my doctor had scheduled medical testing to determine the cause of my pains, and as I awaited the results, I have to admit that I was a bit anxious.

I went to a nearby beach - Lanikai Beach (see the Comments Section of this photo) - with a few friends to relax and pray, but despite my best efforts, I couldn't rid myself completely of my anxiety. I remember silently asking the Lord and the Blessed Mother to help me and that's when I happened to glance up at the sky above the ocean. I was surprised to see a perfectly round cloud with a letter "V" hollowed into the center of it. I quickly drew my friends' attention to the cloud and we watched it for almost a minute as the sky-blue "V" slowly expanded into a clear shape of a Heart, while the cloud itself retained it's circular form.

After a few more minutes the cloud eventually dissipated, leaving all of us deeply impressed. My friends and I discussed the unusual formations and we all concluded that the blue "V" stood for "Virgin Mary" and the Heart was obviously the symbol for Love; taken all together, the whole event was interpreted as a personal sign from the Blessed Mother that she would take care of me... but the matter didn't end there.

I continued to pray, and as I did so, I absent-mindedly picked up clumps of sand and threw them into the ocean. I noticed that a single sand pebble remained sticking to one of my fingers, and when I took a closer look at it, I was amazed by its appearance - the pebble bore an uncanny resemblance to a classic Madonna-and-Child figure, almost like a tiny 1/2 inch statue of the Holy Virgin carrying the infant Jesus (see the Comments Section)! As I pondered this additional grace my heart was further eased and I was filled with immense peace. Needless to say, my test results were favorable as they brought to light a minor intestinal condition that was easily treated with medication.

This drawing depicts the unusual cloud formations that I witnessed on that fateful day in 2004, and in the center, I drew a stylized representation of the Madonna-and-Child image that I believe to be present in the pebble that I found on the beach. Behind the Virgin is beautiful Lanikai Beach with it's blue waters and world-famous famous "twin islands".
