Brown ink on off-white wove paper pasted to off-white wove paper. No discernible watermark. 12 15/16 x 9 1/4 in. (32.9 x 23.5 cm). Inscribed in brown ink at lower center: le pro. fesseur (the teacher). Red estate stamp at lower right (no Lugt reference).
Note: a play on words: pro. (professional), fesseur (spanker).

My piece was inspired by Janet Culberston's painting "Buy." I was inspired by her piece because of her stance on pollution. Her paintings are inspired by her concerns about the environment. My work is based on her painting of the subtle waters on Long Island. My creation is based on her insight and it depicts the view of the Great South Bay. When I looked out at the water it occurred to me that our environment is directly affected by urbanization. Our waterways are being affected by building many homes on the water. The building up of our shorelines is affecting our ecosystem. The homes consume the land. The homes use gas and oil and eventually affects the waterways. While the land, water and air are affected by urbanization, next comes the destruction of nature.

out and about yesterday, so I did this in pen and ink . I found that drawing the characters who wandered along across the way from where I sat in the park expanded the range of characters a lot. Though this is a total departure from my usual way of more sustained observation, so that is progress, totally. Composition, layout and much else inspired by a drawing posted by johnefrench
another relic from my high school years, made for my grandmother (baba) who loved getting art from my brother and i, and kept it all well preserved (1990 or 1991)
