I was photographing some flowers outside yesterday morning, (in the rain-got soaked) and heard several flocks of geese flying overhead. I quickly snapped this shot, but I missed that gorgeous 'V' formation by a split second.
I'm not sure why these geese are so late in coming home, since I saw many flocks weeks ago, and was sure their migration was finished.
eta: I heard a bunch more honking last night in the middle of the night, very weird!
Explore #110, May 3rd. Thank you!
We just finished up our first week of Rifugios in the Dolomites with an incredible group of photographers! We experienced almost every type of weather from beautiful sunrises and sunsets, clear skies for Milky Way, and dramatic and moody storms. This pano was one of my favorite shots as storms passed over the mountains and a brief shaft of light broke through and illuminated the rifugio and surrounding mountains. We are excited to welcome our next group tomorrow!!
The rain clouds are gathering in the sunset-lit sky over the Bolsa Chica invoking all kinds of crazy coloring only the nature can produce... @ Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve
The Calgary Tower rises above the rooftops of downtown, its bright red top creating a striking focal point. In the foreground, a monochrome high-rise dominates the frame, with its straight lines and rectangular window rows contrasting with the circular form of the tower. The sky shows streaks of clouds moving diagonally across, adding a sense of motion.

♥ Thank you very much for your visits, faves, and kind comments ♥
This shot has many of the elements I love in a scene: curvy leading line, water, reflection, a mountain, snow, dramatic clouds, great golden hour light. Glad I made the 25-minute drive out to Mount Bachelor to see it. Bend, where I live, hasn't had snow on the ground for weeks, but here there was a thick layer of it -- creating a winter scene as the start of summer beckons.

Just back from the beautiful Loch Glass. I was happy to get some striking sunlight on the famous little Pink House.

This is probably not my favorite angle to shoot Palouse Falls, but the light was so compelling that it was hard to pass up. A small cluster of wildflowers in the foreground was an unexpected bonus!
The "Three Brothers" are an iconic mountain-scape, in Yosemite Nations Park. Here, they are reflecting in the Merced River that run through the valley.
I've shared the color version of this previously, but I love the way that I can emphasize the clouds and reflection more by converting to B&W. I use Nik Silver Efex, which is a software that's been around for decades, but is now part of DxO's PhotoLab as an add-on. Yes, I had the great Ansel Adams in mind as I was making this conversion.
Here's a link to the color version. www.flickr.com/photos/dcstep/54331952238/in/album-7217772... I have another very similar image in my Flickr Yosemite Album. The cloud are slightly different in that image. I thought that this version would "pop" a little better.
I love exploring the highlands of Iceland! Shaped by the extreme forces of volcanism and weather, the highlands exhibit a marked simplicity and undulating beauty. We are releasing our 2024 Highlands to our Loyalty Group today. Beyond that, I'm especially excited for some surprises coming for late 2023, so become an Action Photog Loyalty Member for the pre-release announcements! General registration is opening soon.
Walking the shoreline between Schwarbe and Barkenberg, this is where my music begins. The rhythm of the Baltic waves and the heavy winter sky are the literal soundtrack to my life and my project, Talvekoidik. In this moment, the world feels stripped down to its essentials—just wind, water, and the path ahead. This is my Zen.
Do you have a specific place where you go to clear your head and find your 'rhythm'?
