Yosemite National Park, California U.S.A.

surprisingly it did not rain for the entire 6 hours we were trapped on the Island

Caught this incoming storm on the way home and got caught in it when I got there - snow, sleet and hail. Had to sit in the car for ten minutes until it passed

Fall and winter usually means dramatic sunrises and sunsets here in the Pacific Northwest. Today the sunrise was unusually colorful. The ferry servicing the island can be seen making its hourly crossing.

The view from Maiden Rock Bluff is a spectacular one - train or no train.

I got an idea to hike the bluff train within the Maiden Rock Bluff State Natural Area on day before Christmas Eve seeing as there was no snow. The bluff had been high on my wish list. Views from the various vistas are amazing, and I was gifted a train rolling along the shores of Lake Pepin while I was admiring the scene. I was hoping a train would show up, and one fortunately did! I have admired others' Mississippi River bluff railroad photos, so I was pleased to get one myself.

Saturday Self-Challenge: Dramatic Picture

This was an interesting challenge. There are many different interpretations. At first I thought the most obvious was an image with a dramatic story, but after looking at examples provided in articles on the topic, I realized that lighting can also provide a dramatic, eye-catching mood. I happened to glance over at a couple of my teddy bears being illuminated by late afternoon sun, and had to capture it.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Dramatic clouds hover over my favorite corn crib in Henry County Illinois.

The coloured version is one of my favorite shot, this round I convert into b&w & create a more dramatic processing.

How do you think?

A trip to Taiwan last winter had a lot of overcast days with light rain, and the day trip to Yehliu Geopark was no different.

Yehliu Geopark is home to many interesting rock formations. I really like the coastline here with very intricately carved features and the wide variety of different shapes.

While Eastern Cottonwood have already lost their leaves by mid-October, other decicuous trees are just reaching their peak.

Now this 2006 shot is of an slightly unknown history as it was taken with a camera that was not mine. Indeed it could have been taken by his Lordship! We were both there and I recall borrowing his Kodak Brownie to take some shots.

Ribblehead Viaduct is a world famous structure on the Settle - Carlisle Railway in Cumbria, UK. This most scenic of railways was saved from closure by Michael Portillo, then a UK Government Minister, now a railway program TV presenter.

No one was in the water. It was August at Folly Beach Hilton Head. Sharks were in the water so we walked miles and saw a few. One was about four feet long and about ankle deep in water. When they allowed us to go in I only went waist deep and was ready to punch.

Amazing clouds in Hayle Cornwall Winter 2020

Stormy clouds loom over a rocky coastline where waves crash against the shore in a captivating seascape.

Dramatic skies over England this weekend. I was about two miles walk from home and hoping it didn't rain but I had to take a few shots.

Napa Light Festival - video projections on the Napa Historic Court House by Artist: High-Resolution Events. Taken with my iPhone 14 Pro Max on Live Mode. I was taken with how the artist incorporated the building features, such as the windows into their light show rather than use the building as a blank canvas.

After wrapping up at the little bridge over Sturdevant Creek we rolled slowly south through the marsh choosing to stop less than a mile down the line and pose here at about MP 51.1 on the former Delaware and Hudson Railway Adirondack Branch. Saratoga, Corinth and Hudson Railway's recently repatraited Alco RS3s 4103 and 4118 look mighty fine on the south end of this special chartered photo freight consisting of three former refrigerated boxcars, a single side dump gondola, and a bay window caboose. Rising beyond is 1500 Bald Mountain in the Kayaderosseras Range.

This fun group of friends spent the afternoon traversing the railroad south a bit over ten miles as far as MP 44 before reversing direction stopping for photos and runbys at multiple locations along the way. The pair of locomotives are right at home here having been purchased new by the Delaware and Hudson Railway in Sep. and Oct. 1952 respectively. They were acquired in mid 2024 from Genesee Valley Transportation where they had run most recently on the Delaware-Lackanna Railway out of Scranton.

Dramatic sunset light on this majestic mountain!

A lot of drama on this december morning

Dramatische Aussicht von unserem Hotel auf die dahinterliegende Bergkette während eines Sonnenunterganges. An der Küste herrschte schönes Wetter während des Tages, aber in den dahinterliegenden Berge war es den ganzen Tag regnerisch.

Dramatic View seen from our Hotel at the Mountains during a Sunset. We had wonderful weather at the coast during the day, but up in the mountains it had been rainy all day long.
