Watching the rapidly moving clouds at a l...o...n...g stoplight, I could see a shape emerging like a man's profile (the bright white shape in the middle), and grabbed my camera before the light turned green.
Only twenty percent of the Sacsaywaman site is left - after the Spanish defeated the Incans there in 1536, most of the temple was razed to help the Spaniards build their own homes.
El Chaltén, Santa Cruz: A powerful glacial waterfall plunges with raw, kinetic energy against the ancient, moss-covered granite cliffs of the Argentine Patagonia. The composition emphasizes the dramatic contrast between the brilliant, sun-drenched spray of the cascade and the deep, shadowed recesses of the surrounding rock face. Light filters through the overhead canopy, catching the mist to create a fleeting, ethereal glow that softens the jagged stone textures. The photograph captures the immense scale of the Andean wilderness, where the relentless flow of water carves its path through the geologic history of the region. A shallow depth of field isolates the turbulent white water at the base, drawing the eye into the chaotic beauty of the mountain stream. Every element of the frame highlights the wild, untamed spirit of one of South America's most iconic trekking destinations. The thunderous roar of the falls serves as a testament to the pristine, glacial-fed ecosystems that define this rugged, high-altitude landscape. This scene underscores the vital importance of preserving the untouched natural heritage of Patagonia, which remains a primary pilgrimage for adventure seekers and geographers worldwide. This image is a collaborative production by Samuel Jeffery and Audrey Bergner for Project 23.
